I am trying to install Windows XP Home for a friend. I set the BIOS up to boot from CD and inserted the Windows XP install CD. When the PC boots up I get the following error message: Cannot boot from CD - Code: 5. The CD ROM spins up and sounds like its working fine. It was working fine before I tried to install.

View 12 Replies View RelatedEvery time I turn on my computer, an error message says something like: "C:WINDOWSsystem32scfyea.dll can't be run, rejected" (It is in chinese, so i don't know how to translate it completely >.<) And I have to click "Ok" for my computer to keep loading all the other things before I can do anything.I got no idea what is that, if it is a virus or who knows. Hardware is 2.0 Celeron, 1 gig Ram, 64MB Nvidia Video Card, PS/2 keyboard and mouse, HD's are 250GIG Western Digital with 4 partitions and 27% free on the XP Boot and 200GIG Western Digital with 2 Partitions. I have a Lite-On DVD +-R/RW drive and a 3.5 floppy. I am setup with a Duel-Boot configuration Win 98/XP. I do not have a paging file.
My problem occures after I hit enter for the Select Operating System page. I Hit enter, Win XP proceeds to load. After I hit enter and Windows loads the blue welcome screen 1 minute has passed. I hear the Welcome Audio music, however blue welcome screen is still there for 30 more seconds. Next is my picture that I have as my background that is shown without icons for 1minute 21seconds. Windows now displays my icons on my desktop. the icons blink at minute 4. after 4 minutes and 51 seconds I am able to use my computer. At bootup I only have 43 programs running and 357MB of the 1 gig ram taken.
What I have done:
1) I have started in safe mode and defraged my PC, 0% frag on all partitions except a drive that isn't currently plugged in and it was 1% because it's my backup drive (not worried about that 1%)
2)Removing all connected Componets and rebooted, same problem.
3) I have tried using msconfig.exe and setting the startup selection as Normal- it's defaulted to Selective. Tried reducing my startup programs. ....
When i startup my computer i get this message.."WIndows cannot start because the following file is missing or corrupt:WINDOWSSYSTEM32CONFIGSYSTEM"
My Toshiba notebook won't boot. I have tried starting in last known good configuration and safe mode but I keep getting the same error. The OEM toshiba recovery CD won't let me do a sytem repair. The computer had been working fine and when I restarted it, it came back with this error. Please help I don't want to have to do a complete reinstall and wipe out my data
View 2 Replies View RelatedDid a clean install of xp a few months back, when I booted it up shows 2 copies of windows. The (default) gives me an error when I try to boot it. Never really bothered me before but I need to be able to have windows restart automatically now. There is only one OS, no dual booting what so ever. If I go into Start up and Recovery only one OS is shown. So I can't switch the default, that would be to easy. Anyone have any ideas? This is what my boot.ini looks like

Please insert disk into drive. Cancel. Try Again. Continue -Basically I either have to hit cancel or continue to make it go away...but it is still annoying to see it and it sometimes pops up periodically.

I've been troubled by viruses and trojans on an older computer (Pentium4) and decided to reinstall XP from the disc to see if I can "start over". I have another primary computer, so it doesn't hurt me to lose all the files etc. I'd rather start with a clean slate. Anyway, the XP install from the disc with SP1 went fine. Then I installed SP2 per the request of the windows update monitor. The install proceeded fine until a copy error occurred.Copy Erro Error occurred while copying file sprb0414.dll.Cannot copy file to directory.

When I bring up utilities for system restore, it shows drive I as the system drive instead of drive C.I can sort of understand why this might happen because I installed a new 200 gig drive 5 months ago and made my old C drive I. My system tells me that C is my boot drive and I am not having any real problems except with restore. Looks like something is wrong in restor's database.

When I look at the disc it looks like an ordinary XP disc, but when I put it in system it says PRESS ANY KEY TO REBOOT. Am I missing something, I did it last year with no problems; also I can�t remember how to put the key in automatically.

Sometimes when I cut/copy folders from one location to another the process will stop and give an error message cannot move file with a red x. Clicking on ok cancells the whole cut/copy operation, which can leave you wondering what has or has not been moved and requires trawling through source and target location. Gets a bit annoying when it happens fairly often.

My computer crashed about a month ago and I had to use a recovery disc to restore my original system.. Everything works fine except when I boot up and following the Sony logo and Intel logo the following message appears "Press F11 for Acronis Startup Recovery Manager. Acronis fatal error Boot drive (partition) not found. Press Enter to try to boot your PC." Pressing enter boots up the PC fine but how can I eliminate the process? I had Acronis on both drives before the crash but it no longer exists.

I bought a blank dvd from Walgreens and tried to burn a dvd data disc. An error message came up which said the disc was the wrong media. Is it possible the disc is made for newer drives and I need a slower media or something? What do I look for?

I took the hard drive out of the working one and put it in the non working one as the master. (BTW on the non working one its just the hard drive that is working properly) I put the hard drive from the non working one as the slave so i can try and get some files off of it and format it. So I boot up the system and the computer recognizes it but then i get an " Error Loading Operating System" error.
