Instead of seeing the videos, a faded QuickTime symbol with a question mark appears. I am assuming that there is a plug-in problem, but can't seem to get it to work. I tried reinstalling Macromedia Flash as well, but it does not install properly. I get an error message asking me to make sure I am connected to the internet, when I already am.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI just did a clean install of Windows XP Pro with SP2. Everything seems to work fine but i wanted to make a bootup disk with a floppy. I inserted a new one into A: drive which is the floppy drive but the 'Insert Disk' window keeps popping up. I tried to format the disks but it's as though it doesn't recognize the disks. I checked the drivers and it says there's no conflicts. I used to have Win 2000 Pro and it recognized my floppy without any problems. Could the problem be my BIOS or WIN XP?

I found this out after XP's system file went irreparably corrupt, when my hackintosh (installed on a different hard drive) started experiencing the same problems.Bad RAM has been removed, and I'm trying to reinstall XP. I formatted the drive using OSX's Disk Utility program, wrote zeros to the entire surface, and partitioned it in FAT32 (Disk Utility can not format to NTSC).When I use my CD to reinstall Windows, it does not read the full drive. It instead offers to install XP on a 130gb drive where my 640gb drive is. If I follow it through, it installs just fine, but it formats my 640gb drive to only have one usable NTSC partition of 130gb.The last time I attempted this, I removed every drive and storage device from my computer except for the 640gb drive and the same thing still happened.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI turned on my computer today and everything's messed up. I'm running windows XP on a Sony Vaio (about 6 yrs. old). I have 2 separate CD drives, and my computer won't recognize them. Sometimes when I restarted it'd recognize one of them. When I'm in the BIOS screen it only shows 1 CD drive. I can't copy or backup files; I wanted to backup so I could revert back to factory settings. I also can't install or uninstall anything. My anti-virus program (McAfee) says it has updated, but when I run a scan it says my definitions are 5 months out of date. It suddenly takes a really long time to boot up.

They are picked up and correctly identified on the systray, but each time I want to use any flash drive or portable device I have to assign it a drive letter through Windows XP (Home Edition) Disk Management.Even then it is only visible in Windows Explorer where I can actually see and access my files. No portable device ever shows up in My Computer. If I unplug the device and plug it in again, without having rebooted, although the letter still appears in the list of drives, I have to add a new letter to the same device in order to be able to see the files on it once more. If I reboot, the drive vanishes, and I have to start over again.

I've done it before and I'm quite familiar with the steps, but this time there is one new wrinkle. Windows tells me it sees two partitions, which it shouldn't. There is only one, but it is comprised of two HDD's in a stripe setup. There is a total of 1.2TB of space between the two of them. The free space is somewhere in the 800-900 GB range before the machine started having problems. Windows keeps saying that there is only 900 MB of free space, which is not enough to install windows. Laughable. There is a ton of free space on those drives, and there is an existing XP installation, albiet one that doesn't work.

Everything worked well until one day my connection dropped and now doesn't work. I reseted router and couldn't set it up again on my PC! (web browser doesn't open router webpage) but it worked everything well for laptop. My PC doesn't say like router would be unplugged, but it says that my connection is "Limited or no connectivity". I can't even use Mail programs/MSN on my PC, but all works on wifi/laptop using cable.My config settings seem to be same as on laptop and I reinstalled my ethernet driver but nothing has got better.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have no idea what my sister and her friends were doing on the comp for a couple of days that i decided not to use it, but now:a few programs take forever to load or don't load at all, but they do show up under the processes tab in the task manager - after pressing Ctrl Alt Del, the task manager icon appears in the system tray, but the thing only shows up a minute later - my system recovery is "not able to protect my computer," and restarting does nothing - actually, when restarting or shutting down Windows, it stops at where it only shows my desktop background and cursor [which is still able to move] and nothing else after that, so i have to hold the power button and force it to shut off - when I right click the desktop and click on "Properties..." [or something similar to this action] it doesn't show up at all, and whenever I try to open any application after that, they don't even load at all either

Then it asks me if I want to give IE permission to change these settings. Of course not (I think?). And the problem is still there. I connect with Verizon DSL, but when I go on Internet Explorer, the browser doesn't work properly- it says "Web Page Unavavailable While Offline"- what's up with that?! View 1 Replies View RelatedIn need of some major help, whenever i load up my computer everything loads up fine untill i get to the status bar screen which just loops and loops over and over again and nothing happens from that point onwards not only that but it knocks out all my devices i.e keyboard, mouse etc. I can open it in safe mode no problem and in this i have done numerous system restores. If i leave my computer off or idle for about 12 hours it worls again after that but about 2-4 days later the problem happens again this has happened aprox 7 times now. View 14 Replies View RelatedI have just installed a fresh copy of windows XP sp2 on 2 machines. Both Dell Optiplex desktops. Usually it prompts that it has found new hardware for each device it hasn't found drivers for. Device manager lists them with a yellow exclamation icon.Problem I have now though is that the fresh install of XP does not show these prompt at all, although device manager lists them and if i go in there and update driver the device works.The problem I have is that basically i usually copy a driver heirarchy to the systemdrive and point the registry at them, which results in automatic installation on boot. This no longer works and I assume they are related as it doesn't look like it's automatically trying to install these devices.Is there a setting somewhere, seems very strange, what with it being a fresh install?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have been having problems on my Windows XP for almost a week. It started when I opened my computer nearly a week ago. Windows XP was so slow. I also notice that it cannot detetc my drive D. As you can see, my hard disk is partition into two. Windows XP is installed on drive C. I put some of my files on drive D. They are both 20 GB each (My hard disk is 40 GB). When I double-click it it displays that it drive D is not yet formatted and Windows XP will ask if I want to format it. I never remove or tamper its partition. I tried using "repair" in the Windows XP Installation Menu when I tried booting the Windows XP CD. The problem still wasn't fixed.
I also boot a windows 98 CD so that I can boot into DOS. However when I use DOS to access my drive D. It works fine. It seems that only Windows XP cannot read my drive D. Windows XP also runs so slow. Furthermore, when I tried using the "Safe Mode with Command Prompt" option when starting windows to access drive D, it states CRC "Cyclic Redundancy something..."
Installed by clicking the "installing missing plugin" strip on top of the browser then it didnt work so i tried installing manually the process went throught but Java is still a "missing plugin" in firefox i opened up IE it's working perfectly fine.

My laptop is not loading up, after about 20secs it states "Disk read error occurred- CLT+ALT+DEL to restart.But it just happend again and again. I've been reading around and everyone is saying just use the xp install disk to repair the master boot, problem is I have moved that many time is the past 2years I have no idea where that CD is.I've downloaded DiskInternals Boot CD and it will start on this. But it wont actaully repair the disk, just scan it I've used diskcheck via cmd on the boot cd but it states there is a master boot registry failure.

It faulted on an error stating that it couldn't create files in the Temp directory and that I should check to see if it was marked Read Only. I found that the entire drive is marked Read Only. When I went to Properties and tried to reset it to normal it went right back to Read Only. I was able to create a new Adminstrator User on my PC to get around the problem, but that means all my user settings are lost. It appears that I have lost administrative rights to the drive. All my other apps seem to work fine. How do I correct the problem without loosing my current user configurations. Why doesn't Windows XP allow one to copy or save a user configuration?
