Incomplete Boot-up In WIN2K Pro

Feb 20, 2008

Boot-up ceases prior to desktop display. Attempted to reinstall windows, but ended up with 2nd WIN2K boot option, which works fine as basic O/S.Ran CHKDISK on C: drive. After initially correcting multiple errors, drive is now OK. I have original WIN2K Pro install disk, but not all drivers for peripherals- help me repair original install.

Laptop With Dual Boot - Win2K

Oct 1, 2005

I have inadvertently setup my laptop with both Win2000 and WinXP. The intent was to set it up (clean install)with XP. I thought that now that I have both OS's on the same partition, I could still do a new install by booting to the XP CD. I go into BIOS, make sure the CD is the first device, save, and reboot the machine. It wants me to pick an OS. It does not want to (seemingly) do an install. How can I fix this. If I must reformat the drive, fine. Please point me in the right direction to get a single OS(XP Pro) on board my machine.

How To Delete Incomplete Download?

Jan 8, 2009

I run an XP on my laptop. I was downloading a large game file (900mb) and my internet got cut off during the download and it stopped midway. My computer is VERY short of HDD space, so it was crucial I delete the space wasted in my partial download, but I can't find it.

- I tried deleting my temporary internet files & dowloaded program files through Disk Cleanup

- I also tried running a Search for the file name.

Nothing seems to work. If someone can help me find and delete the impartial download so I can get my 800mb's back.

System Restore Incomplete?

Nov 21, 2006

I know there are loads of threads on system restore - I've checked as many as I could and can't find the same problem, but I apologize if the answer's out there and I've missed it. I have had loads of trouble with my SR - basically it won't restore to any of my restore points and says the restoration is incomplete. I tried turning it off, rebooting and then starting it again, and after setting a few RPs and carrying out a few "normal" restorations, it all went to pieces again and wouldn't go back to any of the points - even the ones that had worked before. I've read on these forums that Norton anti-virus can affect SR... I have AVG 7 as my anti-virus, but I do have Norton as my firewall (I know everyone hates Norton, but it came with my new browser when I changed ISP and I just thought it would be too complicated to change it!)A long while ago I had the same problem, and eventually I had to re-install XP because of the mess I'd got it into, so I hope that doesn't have to happen again, but I really have no idea where to go from here, so any advice would really be appreciated. I did recently cause myself a load of trouble by running my Registry Mechanic halfway through the installation of IE7 (that gives you an idea of the sort of idiot I am!) but this was happening before that, so I don't think it's connected. At the moment the computer seems to be running ok - but obviously with no SR when I do eventually mess it up (again!) I'm going to be stuck.

This error is consistant when I try and run any .exe file. 2nd example start>run>iexplore.exe get error cannot find file iexplore.exe. Make sure..... and the rest of the error message. This started when I was tring to manually remove a virus. It was behaving funny, freezing on startup (after desktop icons loaded) every other reboot or so. I put the latest Via chipset drivers on there, and nVidia video drivers (to get out of 16 color mode) and then the freezing upon boot seemed to stop. Is something somehow messed up in Windows 2000? Upgrading Win2k Prof To Xp Prof

May 19, 2007

I have a Win2k installation that I had to "repair". I'm trying to upgrade to XP on this disk to preserve settings but XP Upgrade disk thinks I have an evaluation copy (not so - repaired 2000 from full version sp4 CD bought from Staples years ago). I run winver.exe and it confirms a licensed copy of 2000 and not an evaluation copy. I'm not sure exactly what brought this 2000 system to a halt. I've been trying to fix it on and off for two weeks now after I installed some polaroid digital camcorder software and everything went south. I have an MSI 865PE Neo2 MB and I'm not sure exactly what happened but I lost 3 gb of 'data' on this Western Digital 80gb harddrive suddenly without having any known viruses/trojans or HD problems. Diagnostics ran and run clean. Lost all network connectivity, USB

Instead I only had the option of the DVD drive and the CD drive.I have no idea how to solve this problem and don't have any of the recovery CD's. I DO NOT WANT TO REFORMAT because like a bad little boy I did not backup my 4 years worth of work.
