Nov 21, 2006I know there are loads of threads on system restore - I've checked as many as I could and can't find the same problem, but I apologize if the answer's out there and I've missed it. I have had loads of trouble with my SR - basically it won't restore to any of my restore points and says the restoration is incomplete. I tried turning it off, rebooting and then starting it again, and after setting a few RPs and carrying out a few "normal" restorations, it all went to pieces again and wouldn't go back to any of the points - even the ones that had worked before. I've read on these forums that Norton anti-virus can affect SR... I have AVG 7 as my anti-virus, but I do have Norton as my firewall (I know everyone hates Norton, but it came with my new browser when I changed ISP and I just thought it would be too complicated to change it!)A long while ago I had the same problem, and eventually I had to re-install XP because of the mess I'd got it into, so I hope that doesn't have to happen again, but I really have no idea where to go from here, so any advice would really be appreciated. I did recently cause myself a load of trouble by running my Registry Mechanic halfway through the installation of IE7 (that gives you an idea of the sort of idiot I am!) but this was happening before that, so I don't think it's connected.At the moment the computer seems to be running ok - but obviously with no SR when I do eventually mess it up (again!) I'm going to be stuck.

Nov 13, 2008Need to do a system restore to a previous date, but it won't let me.I entering in safe mode and restoring there to a previous date of November 7th 2008 and then click next my computer shuts down and reboots then opens up normally but it says the system restore was incomplete because of an improper shut down and it says this every time i try to do it.

I have 8.5 gig disk space and turning off RESTORE , rebooting and creating a new restore point did not solve the problem--the message remained the same. Other than reinstalling XP I am at a loss as to what to do. I do not have a need to restore at the moment but I may need to in the future.

When I go into the program, it has many different restoration points that were automatically set by the program (Check Points). It also reflects the restoration points that I have set manually. Now heres my problem: No matter which of the restoration points I choose, the computer the computer will go through all the steps necessary to restore, including the restart. After the restart and after the whole Desktop has been replaced, a window comes up and it says this: Restoration incomplete, Your computer cannot be restored to: (date&time). No changes have been made to your computer. Choose another restoration point. But, no mater which one I choose, the same thing happens again. Apr 25, 2006I am running Win XP-SP2. I wiped my hard drive due to irresolvable software conflicts. I reinstalled XP-SP2, Office, Norton, the printer and scanner and my digital camera software package. All were updated and working perfectly until Sunday. I booted up the machine only to get a warning that says One of your disks may have errors let the computer reboot itself (which it will do repeatedly, stuck in a reboot loop) or you can hit any key to ignore this warning. You have only ten seconds to read all this and make a decision.
Once the computer boots up, everything seems to work as normal except for system restore. I tried to restore to the day after I reformatted and installed everything and all I get is an error saying Cannot restore to that point, please choose another point to restore tooor something to that effect.

Recently after waking up from every hibernation, the laptop gives the following error message:System restart has been paused:Continue with system restart.Delete restoration data and proceed to system boot menu.After that it boots into Windows, however i lose all of my open programs which is rather annoying. Everything works fine except when I boot up and following the Sony logo and Intel logo the following message appears "Press F11 for Acronis Startup Recovery Manager. Acronis fatal error Boot drive (partition) not found. Press Enter to try to boot your PC." Pressing enter boots up the PC fine but how can I eliminate the process? I had Acronis on both drives before the crash but it no longer exists.

Mar 10, 2005Installed Norton Internet Security 2005 and now, whenever I try and do a system restore it says "System restore encountered a problem and has to close". It does this all the time, even in safe mode. Symantec has mentioned that I should turn off NIS2005 and try system restore. If it then works it is a Microsoft issue. Jan 8, 2009I run an XP on my laptop. I was downloading a large game file (900mb) and my internet got cut off during the download and it stopped midway.My computer is VERY short of HDD space, so it was crucial I delete the space wasted in my partial download, but I can't find it.
- I tried deleting my temporary internet files & dowloaded program files through Disk Cleanup
- I also tried running a Search for the file name.
Nothing seems to work. If someone can help me find and delete the impartial download so I can get my 800mb's back.
Restoration Towards Access My Files
Jun 28, 2004I am using XP Home edition running on an unmodified Dell Dimension (about 1 year old) I mistakenly set my Documents and Settings Folder (DS) to Private and I can not figure out how to undo this.I used the User control panel to create a password for my account. A dialog appeared asking if I would like to make my documents private. I mistakenly answered yes. This has destroyed my home network, I can not see my files from another computer. If I right click on my DS folder and select the Sharing option it shows "Make this folder private" checkbox as checked. However it is greyed out, I can not uncheck it. I also can't uncheck the "Share this folder" checkbox, or change the Share name. I can check, and uncheck the "Allow network users to change my files" box, but checking this box does not restore my ability to access my files.

Sep 15, 2006I was messing around with CCleaner and deleted something to do with an old version of McAfee (which isn't even on my computer anymore) from the registry. Yes, it was stupid to mess with the registry I guess because I failed to make the backup and now my computer won't boot. I get the blue screen that says there was an error 0x0000008e, or something like that.
I have tried using F8 and choosing the last known good configuration but it doesn't work. Also, I can boot into safe mode and I tried running a system restore but after it finished and I rebooted, it said that I couldn't restore from that point.I haven't really tried another restore because I am a little afraid to do anything. I don't want to risk losing access in safe mode because I need to be able to back up some of my files if in case I have to do a reformat.
