After I restored my computer due to some computer problem, I found that my mouse and network adapter suddenly not working, though their properties shows that they are 'working properly'. However I noticed that they are both not digitally sign (wth Windows), is this the culprit?
I have a curious problem with my "System Restoration". I am running XP Pro on an IBM ThinkPad Z60t. When I go into the program, it has many different restoration points that were automatically set by the program (Check Points). It also reflects the restoration points that I have set manually. Now heres my problem: No matter which of the restoration points I choose, the computer the computer will go through all the steps necessary to restore, including the restart. After the restart and after the whole Desktop has been replaced, a window comes up and it says this: Restoration incomplete, Your computer cannot be restored to: (date&time). No changes have been made to your computer. Choose another restoration point. But, no mater which one I choose, the same thing happens again. I have dedicated the maximum disk space for System Restoration, (12%)and have checked all the settingsb but still can't find the problem
I gotta a XP Home SP2 Machine was running fine then on boot up sound device not found. went to device mng and no items displayed. System restore had been didabled and Norton disabled as well. Done a spyware scan pull nout so did virus
There is six places where I can insert a usb on the computer, I have tried them all. I can insert my mp3 and it will start to charge, but a lot slower than before and I cant add more music because it wont pop up at "My computer". I can insert my mouse and its red light will start but the mouse is still not working. No usb device at all will show up at "My computer". Sorry for not explaining better, but I hope somebody have a clue about what I'm talking about.
I have a linksys wireless network router installed on my computer (Windows XP SP2, 512mb RAM). It was working fine until about a week ago when it started getting sporadic and i had to re plug it in almost every day to "re work" it. Then it stopped working altogether. It lights up when the comp is booted but then it turns back off. If plugged in during computer being on, it just says "USB Device Not Recognized", no matter how many times i uninstall & reinstall the software. The only thing that "works" is when I uninstall my Intel USB Controller hardware--the Internet router comes back to life for a moment and shows up in the system tray only to flick back gone. It's soo frustrating.
Here is the situation, I have a Dell 700M Inspiron Laptop running windows XP. I have 2 usb ports and alternate between 3 devices - a usb mouse, my pocket pc cell phone, and a Western Digital Mybook External Hard drive. All of a sudden my USB ports stopped recognizing my devices. It still sends power though because I can still plug in my cell phone to charge it. The problem is that the computer fails to recognize any devices anymore, even my mouse. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers and restarted my computer several times, I even tried system restore. It may have to do with the fact that I accidently unplugged my hard drive while it was still running without using safely remove my hardware. I have heard stories of western digital harddrives causing BIOS and motherboard failures.
i just reinstalled xp on my laptop and now it wont show up anything when i insert something intothe usb port. the light comes on on my usb stick. but thats all. i checked the usb controllers and the hubs and it says the device is working properally.
Since before December 2006 I have been unable to get my AOL 9 to run...I have only been able to use AOL8...I have re-installed new AOL 9 disks...un-installed them and still the same problem remains eg..."AOL9 will now install the files needed for you to be able to connect".I got in touch with AOL Tech help and they told me that I was in a LOOP and gave me steps on how to deal with my problem...but,it didn't work.I have been searching around the web and found something called "Apropos" which can be a cause of all the problems I am having also it can cause there to be a blank window in Device Manager?I went to my Device manager and yes mine is Blank
I have an external USB 2.0 case with a 160GB HD that was working just fine until a couple of days ago when I stopped the drive and unplugged it from the PC. Next time I connected the drive to the same PC, I got a message saying "There was a problem installing your device" and in the Properties window for the device a Code 10 appears. I connected the same drive to a different computer and it is working perfectly. I uninstalled the device and reinstalled it again but the problem still persists.
Since upgrading to Windows XP Service Pack 2, my network adapter (a 3Com 3C905-TX-M)does not appear in Device Manager and I therefore can't get this computer to appear on my home network. The network adapter is still working because that's how I connect to the Internet, via LAN to a router then cable broadband, and IPCONFIG gives valid results including the correct IP address from the router via DHCP.I installed a clean copy of XP Home on a spare hard disk. The network adapter appeared in Device Manager and the computer appeared on the network. I then upgraded to SP2 and the network adapter disappeared from Device Manager and the computer no longer appears on the network.
I have Windows XP Profesional SP2 system. I'm encountering a problem with the 'Safely Remove Hardware' feature. When I insert a USB Flash Drive or any other USB Mass Storage device, it functions properly. But, when i Safely Remove that USB device(From the Safely Remove Hardware icon on the Taskbar) and then insert it again ,i get the usual 'Safely Remove Hardware' icon at the Taskbar but the device does get displayed in 'My Computer' or any other place and i can't access the USB Mass storage Device. So i have to restart my PC and then only the USB Device becomes accessible from 'My Computer'.
I am using windows xp sp2 professional.few days back my usb ports stopped working suddenly. They don't recognize any usb devices. Also there is nothing like usb controller or usb ehci in the device manager.I don't have anyway to know what has happened. The motherboard is intel 845 gvsr.If you have any links for updating the usb driver or the bios or any solution to this
I have an Epson Perfection 1200 U scanner that works fine in Win 2k. With XP, Device Manager said device is not working properly. Windows found the driver, and I began installing. Then a message: "Has not passed Windows Logo testing to verify compatibly with XP. may impair operating of this system." Scary message. Does this mean that I should avoid installing this scanner?
my DVD ROM wont work. It has all the drivers installed and it is enabled from the computer management in the control pannel. I also enabled it using my backup software but it is still not recognised. Any sudgestions?? I used to have both Nero and Instant CD/DVD installed. I removed Nero just in case there was a conflict with the software but it still remains the same.
Since installing Windows XP SP2 (upgrade from SP1) I noticed that Standby does not function. When I manually go to Standby, or if my laptop tries to go into Standby as per the power management settings I have set, I get the following message: "Standby has been prevented by the Standard 101/102-Key or Microsoft Natural PS/2 Keyboard device driver. You may need to install an updated driver."
Any ideas on what I can try. I have tried uninstalling the keyboard in safe mode and rebooting to reinstall the keyboard drivers. I have also checked my BIOS settings, and tried resetting the power management settings. I have even updated my ATI video adapter drivers. I noticed the problem shortly after installing SP2. There are no updated drivers available from Gateway for the keyboard.
This laptp is suppsed to have a blue button that you can depress and it will bring XP back to the day it was orig loaded at the factory. But when l pick up a T-40 on Ebay besides having the COA l will have XP already on it.
I recently installed a rather large font package on my computer. The font package is large enough to slow down my computer and I want my original fonts back. How can I restore my fonts folder from 30,000+ fonts @ 2GB, to the original windows fonts? I don't want to do a restore option off the disc, because I don't want to lose anything. Any ideas?
Recently, I uninstalled Macromedia DreamWeaver MX. When I did that, however, it took a lot of the pre-set file extensions with it, such as ".PHP", ".CSS", ".JS", etcetera. How can I get my Microsoft Windows XP to recognise these file formats again, and have them all editable in Notepad again?
I am using XP Home edition running on an unmodified Dell Dimension (about 1 year old) I mistakenly set my Documents and Settings Folder (DS) to Private and I can not figure out how to undo this.I used the User control panel to create a password for my account. A dialog appeared asking if I would like to make my documents private. I mistakenly answered yes. This has destroyed my home network, I can not see my files from another computer. If I right click on my DS folder and select the Sharing option it shows "Make this folder private" checkbox as checked. However it is greyed out, I can not uncheck it. I also can't uncheck the "Share this folder" checkbox, or change the Share name. I can check, and uncheck the "Allow network users to change my files" box, but checking this box does not restore my ability to access my files.
I have no problem with opening System Restore. But this is what happens; http://img684.imageshack.us/img684/3785/restincmp.jpg I've tried more that 5 different dates to restore. Lately I've noticed my windows seem sluggish and slow when minimizing or restoring from the taskbar.I mentioned it to a few friends and they have all noticed it as well. I had a look in my task list and I don't see anything out of the ordinary there. I'm running norton 2003 and MS anti-spyware and neither has found anything wrong. Just wondering if this is a common issue and how I can fix it.
I tried running system restore and after the computer restarted, I got a message saying the restoration could not be completed. There was no explanation why. In case it matters, I have about 2 GB harddrive space left. Also, system restore has worked in the past.
I'm having a problem with my XP laptop. I've been hibernating my laptop daily for the past couple of years. Recently after waking up from every hibernation, the laptop gives the following error message:System restart has been paused:Continue with system restart.Delete restoration data and proceed to system boot menu. After that it boots into Windows, however i lose all of my open programs which is rather annoying. Does anyone know how to resolve this?
Insert any USB device to this computer, Computer keeps restarting and it wont stop doing that until I remove the usb device. I tried with all the usb ports on this computer and problem is the same. Even by hooking up a usb keyboard or mouse, computer wont get to the login screen. it keeps on restarting. It wont even go into 'safe mode'.Anyone have any clue whats going on and the solution to fix it?
I have installed a targus 7 port powered USB HUB on my computer. Device manager reports unknown device. I have deleted and it restalled the drived after the system rebooted. Device manager still saying unknown device. Their is not driver needed according to the manufacture. When the PC is booting it does see the IPOD mini and the Flash drive. But once the PC is fully out and login and I look a the device manager is still reporting unlnown device error (code 10).
I had some trouble last night and today with getting rid of a virus. Now that it is gone, I am having sound problems (maybe related, maybe not). This morning, when I opened iTunes I got a message that there was no audio device detected. After trying several things, I rebooted. Magically, I could play music again. However, a short while later, I again got an error message telling me that there is no audio device found, even though it shows up in Device Manager as working properly. The problem goes away for a short time after I reboot, but returns. It is Realtek AC 97. Why won't my computer keep recognizing it? (It tried going to Realtek's site to download an update. It has updates for Windows 98, 95, etc., but not for XP. Or at least I couldn't find it.)
Running Windows XP on Emachines ET1161-07. Installed all drivers that I could find, since EMachines does not represent XP. Tried Realtek audio and HD audio, tried Intel, didn't work. Tried NVidia, as it has an NVidia motherboard. Spent too much time on this computer. Can anyone lend a hand? I know it's got something to do with Audio, as there's no audio device detected in Sounds, under Control Panel.Customer has to have computer today.
I've been using a Buslink 40G disk-to-go for about 2 years and love it. Today I plugged it into the USB port and the drive did not display. I've searched forums half the night since this drive contains financial data that hasn't been backed up for a month (yes, bad practice, I know) and I need to get it working. I've uninstalled, reinstalled, updated drivers, removed and reinstalled drivers, rolled back drivers and tried everything short of bios changes I've seen recommended.
