View 1 RepliesI've been using a Buslink 40G disk-to-go for about 2 years and love it. Today I plugged it into the USB port and the drive did not display. I've searched forums half the night since this drive contains financial data that hasn't been backed up for a month (yes, bad practice, I know) and I need to get it working. I've uninstalled, reinstalled, updated drivers, removed and reinstalled drivers, rolled back drivers and tried everything short of bios changes I've seen recommended.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have no idea what to do. I went into my cpsystemdevice manager and there's an exclamation point C-Media AC97 Audio Device. I double clicked on it and tried to retrieve it from my winxp cd but it doesn't work.
View 1 Replies View RelatedEvery so often, when I start my computer, the graphics controller does not register correctly and my computer loads some default monitor controller and gives this error that's in the Subject heading. The font turns huge and annoying. I've reloaded, updated, deleted, changed, etc. to the graphics controller. Nothing cures it, except, I was able to do a restore and get it to load correctly. Sometimes it would take a couple of times to do this. Right now, it's on it's 5th time and I'm getting annoyed. It's not working. Does anyone know what I'm talking about?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI had some trouble last night and today with getting rid of a virus. Now that it is gone, I am having sound problems (maybe related, maybe not). This morning, when I opened iTunes I got a message that there was no audio device detected. After trying several things, I rebooted. Magically, I could play music again. However, a short while later, I again got an error message telling me that there is no audio device found, even though it shows up in Device Manager as working properly. The problem goes away for a short time after I reboot, but returns. It is Realtek AC 97. Why won't my computer keep recognizing it? (It tried going to Realtek's site to download an update. It has updates for Windows 98, 95, etc., but not for XP. Or at least I couldn't find it.)
View 6 Replies View RelatedI am still having a recurring problem with my Realtek Audio Device. This is not a new installation and no other new hardware has been installed on the computer (Win Xp Home, SP2). No conflicts are shown. I fear that some files may have become corrupted but this is one behaviour which constantly recurs - maybe someone has a fix or knows what files I need to replace. When I start up the computer, there is no volume icon, no sound and device manager shows the audio device as unable to start, code 10. All the codecs etc other things under sounds are OK.If I choose to uninstall it, then run add hardware wizard, it will reinstall it no problems and the sound comes back. But next boot up it's gone again. In case of not having read previous post, I suspect some corruption occurred when I had to cold shutdown my computer.
I obviously have the correct drivers on the computer & can load them through hardware wizard - I just don't know why they don't stick on shutdown - it's as if the function which registers the entry in the register is corrupt - I know there are certain files which can be installed or uninstalled from the registry in order to start or stop a service.is it something like this I need to do?
i just got this audio capture device for xmas and i plugged it into the wall then i plugged the usb into my computer. my computer instantly froze then shut off. so i unplugged the device and turned my computer back on. it started booting up fine but then froze and shut itself off. now when i turn it on it sounds like it boots up normal but nothing comes up on the screen. also, when the computer is off, but plugged in, there is a red light on the cd drive and a red light on the keyboard. i think something shorted out but there is no sign of damage on the mobo or ram. im hoping its just the psu, but i really have no idea. here are the complete specs:
View 2 Replies View RelatedI haven't installed anything new on my computer but today after having my computer shipped to me via UPS I cut on my computer and where the XP load bar screen was I got: "reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device".Seeing this I knew I went into the BIOS setup and tried to turn the system priority to look at the HDD. Instead I only had the option of the DVD drive and the CD drive.I have no idea how to solve this problem and don't have any of the recovery CD's. I DO NOT WANT TO REFORMAT because like a bad little boy I did not backup my 4 years worth of work.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI am trying to get my usb flash drive to work, and I get this error message. Windows cannot use this hardware device because it has been prepared for "safe removal", but it has not been removed from the computer (Code 47). To fix this problem, unplug this device from your computer and then plug it in again. The only problem is, is that i don't have the device plugged in. I tried uninstalling the device and restarting, but there it is again at the start up. When I plug the device in, the computer will not read it.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI get the following message when I go to device manager and look at my cd rom drive, which has an ! on it."A driver (service) for this device has been disabled. An alternate driver may be providing this functionality. (Code 32)"Recommended resolution The start type for this driver is set to disabled in the registry. Uninstall the driver, and then click Scan for hardware changes to reinstall or upgrade the driver. On the General Properties tab of the device, click Troubleshoot to start the Troubleshooting Wizard. If the driver is required, and if reinstalling or upgrading does not work, change the start type in the registry using Registry Editor. For more information, see the Registry Reference in the Microsoft Windows 2000 Server Resource Kit I have done extensive research on this and all the work arounds that have been suggested do not work for me. The only course of action I feel is possible for me is to edit the registry. I have not been able to find any directions on how to do this short of buying microsoft's "Windows 2000 Server Resource Kit" which is suggested in all my research. This book is Hugely expensive.
View 6 Replies View RelatedWindows XP. I have bought two keyboards, one USB, the other ps/2, but neither has changed a thing as far as eliminating the code 39 message I am getting when I go to device driver. There's also the exclamation point in yellow, that hasn't changed either. Things I have done include uninstalling and reinstalling, but since I can't do anything more than copy and paste, there isn't much I have been able to do as far as msconfig or safe mode. (I've tried to go to diagnostic mode via misconfig but it asks for an administrator password and I have learned passwords can't be copied and pasted).
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have HL-ST CD-RW GCE-8481 B and IDE-DVD Rom 16x I run windows xp home edition. A few days ago I had to do a system restore, but couldn't go back any farther than the month of July.. At any rate, both drives show up in Device Manager as well as my computer. They both light up, but nothing plays. I have unistalled both of them, windows finds new hardware, but the same error message is still there "windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware, the driver may be corrupted or missing code 39" I have read about going into the registry and I usualy get into alot of trouble with that. What I would like to do is a complete recovery using the hp recovery disks that I made when I got the HP. Windows came pre- installed with no disks other than the ones I created. My question if I do this will I be able to use the disks since nothing is playing in either of these drives? My computer is a Desktop , HP Pavillion model is 220N.
View 6 Replies View RelatedMy computer no longer recognizes my cd drive or even brand new dvd drive. It says it has sucessfully loaded the device driver but cannot find the hardware device, code 41. I have tried the troubleshooter, updating the driver, checking the conections, uninstalling / reinstalling the device. Bought a new DVD drive (good enough reason) but it has the exact same message. Any ideas on what else I could try before having to pay the boffins to have a look?

View 8 Replies View Relatedthe audio on my computer has recently stopped. I am running an AMD 64 3000 with WINXP SP3, and have an Asus A8N-E MB using onboard audio. I have tried re-installing the nvidia nforce audio drivers, but they still do not appear in the device manager. Under sound, video, and game controllers in device manager, I have:
Audio Codecs
Legacy Audio Drivers
Legacy Video Capture Devices
Logitech Microphone
Media Control Devices
MPU-410 Compatible MIDI Device
Standard Game Port
Video Codecs
In control panel under sounds and audio devices, it says I have no audio device, and that there are no playback devices. When I try to play a song in RealPlayer, it says "cannot open the audio device. Another application may be using it." Could an overheated chipset cause only the sound to malfunction? My chipset fan recently failed and I was running without it for a little while.
I am using a Sony Vaio Model PCG- 7X2L and it won't play any sounds. There is no volume control on the task bar, so I went to Sounds and Audio Devices and it says there is no audio device. When lookng at the Device Manager, this is what is listed under Sound, video, and game controllers:
Audio Codecs
Legacy Audio Drivers
Legacy Video Capture Devices
Media Control Devices
Video Codecs
I don't see anything that says Realtek, SoundMax, or any other similar devices. What do I need to download in order to have sound play on my laptop?
My internal Nvidia nforce sound card has completely disappeared according to windows for no apparent reason. It is not shown in Device Manager and all of my applications give me errors saying i have no sound card. After going through many trials, tribulations, and attempts to fix my computer, i was left with only one option, to fully restore it back to factory settings. i thought this would cleanse all of my problems. now i have no sound. i have tried running services.msc and windows audio is correctly enabled. it is likely to be a missing sound driver, but i have no clue how to determine where i can get this said driver. i think it is important to note that it appears that none of my usb ports in the front or back of my computer are active.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI installed all the Windows updates and loaded the drivers off the utility disk that came with the motherboard. I also got the updates from the GIGABYTE website. The utility app shows all drivers are installed correctly. It took me a couple of days to get audio to work because the initial driver load got corrupted somehow and it wouldn't let me reinstall until I deleted the driver's entry in the registry. After that I was prompted for the driver again and it installed fine and sound finally started working. Everything appears to be working and there is only the one Unknown driver in my Device Properties and it's really irking me. All my drivers were installed correctly in my previous installation
View 2 Replies View RelatedI recently found an old Gateway desktop in my basement. It is from a few years back, but I figured I'd do a clean install of Windows XP on it and run it in an extra room.I copied the drivers over using a program called DriverMax, and it seemed to work successfully. I had the internet right away and everything else I tried worked. The only problem I am having is that there is no sound. It also says there is no audio device found. Device Manager says I have the most up to date Legacy Audio Drivers, but I am still having this problem. Is there another driver that I might need in order for my computer to recognize an audio device.
