i have been trying to do a system restore for the last week but every time i try i get an error after it's rebooted to say system restore was unable to restore my system as operation is incomplete.i have tried many different restore points but i always get the same error msg
View 6 RepliesI know there are loads of threads on system restore - I've checked as many as I could and can't find the same problem, but I apologize if the answer's out there and I've missed it. I have had loads of trouble with my SR - basically it won't restore to any of my restore points and says the restoration is incomplete. I tried turning it off, rebooting and then starting it again, and after setting a few RPs and carrying out a few "normal" restorations, it all went to pieces again and wouldn't go back to any of the points - even the ones that had worked before. I've read on these forums that Norton anti-virus can affect SR... I have AVG 7 as my anti-virus, but I do have Norton as my firewall (I know everyone hates Norton, but it came with my new browser when I changed ISP and I just thought it would be too complicated to change it!)A long while ago I had the same problem, and eventually I had to re-install XP because of the mess I'd got it into, so I hope that doesn't have to happen again, but I really have no idea where to go from here, so any advice would really be appreciated. I did recently cause myself a load of trouble by running my Registry Mechanic halfway through the installation of IE7 (that gives you an idea of the sort of idiot I am!) but this was happening before that, so I don't think it's connected.At the moment the computer seems to be running ok - but obviously with no SR when I do eventually mess it up (again!) I'm going to be stuck.

I have 8.5 gig disk space and turning off RESTORE , rebooting and creating a new restore point did not solve the problem--the message remained the same. Other than reinstalling XP I am at a loss as to what to do. I do not have a need to restore at the moment but I may need to in the future.

My computer can no longer print. i cant reinstall my printer it always givers me a printer spooler error. i cant burn any cd's or dvd's anymore. When i run msconfig>services i have lots of services that have been stopped which i did not do myself i have tried to do a system restore and that doesnt work because for whatever reason this install removed all of my restore points except for the date that i install NAV 1-17-07. I downloaded NAV removal tool and removed norton and reinstalled to check for possible viruses
View 2 Replies View RelatedMy computer has crashed and I lost everything except for what was created in a backup folder from My Documents. It's an XP OS and I remember creating a restore point sometime over the summer. But now I go to System Restore and it doesn't show any restore points available except for these last few days after the crash (12/2/06). The furthest back it goes is a point on that Friday (12/2) at 6:11:23 PM called "System Checkpoint". But it gives me an error message after rebooting that says it was unable to restore it to that point and no changes have been made. Is there another way to restore my computer or access that earlier restore point?
View 2 Replies View Relatedi installed "roxio creator" thinking that's what i needed to run my dvd!.i know i since figured it out!and installed the correct software.so then i uninstalled "this Roxio...and even searched for any remnants. nothing...but now when i reboot it get this "sonic update manager" box that pops up and i have to cancel it 7 or 8 times before it gives up! i tried "system restore" but i get a message after i reboots, that it couldnt restore to that date! and i tried all the available days in "may" it also won't let me back up to "april"

I tried several restore points, all with the same message. The program went as far as -- collecting information, shutting down windows, user log on window appearing, and then the error messages. Another strange thing, I had several user accounts in my computer. Only in one user accout, when I do Start->All Programs-> Accessories-> System Restore, a full screen of system restore shows up with various restore points showing. All other user accounts, a blanck screen of system appeared (just the title-- system restore and nothing else).The reason I want to restore to a previous point is that after updating Verizon Yahoo 4 days ago, IE 7.0 showed problems in display the "flashes" in my home page, and I cannot print Eudora emails -- internet explorer script error. The strange thing is that this problem does not occur in the user account that shows the correct System Restore screen, it occurs in all other user accounts that showed a blank System Restore screen.

And when I try to do a System Restore, nothing happens. No System Restore window comes up at all. Some background info: a few weeks ago, my laptop suddenly could boot up, not even in safe mode. The program ran somewhat--collecting information, shutting down windows, restarting, and welcome screen appearing. But when I tried to log on with my user account, it showed an error "cannot restore" to the point where I specified. Itried several earlier points with no success. I turned OFF my pc manually... and when i restarted back my pc is working but there are problems.
-My system restore will open but it only has a clear white window.. nothing in it but white screen.
-I am not able to use the USERS window under control panel, getting the same thing for it, just a white window.

I'm running Windows XP, but when I try to restore my system to a previous date it goes throught the motions, restarts fine and then tells me that it cannot restore to that date and that no changes have been made. I've tried various dates and get the same answer.

I have it set to automatically make restore points, but when I try to restore to them it just tells me that it was incomplete and no changes have been made to my system. Then, recently (in the past few days), I've been getting BSOD's with errors of either win32k.sys (0x08E) or NDIS.sys (0x0DI, DRIVER_IRQ_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL). Microsoft Crash Analysis has twice told me it was a RAM issue, and twice told me it's a driver issue.

View 8 Replies View RelatedAt present, I have a screen that keeps saying 'error loading operating system'. To start I had Wn98se, installed WnXP Pro. The files and settings transer wizard did it's thing copying but didn't work upon install. I have 98 start up disk .. but nothing for the XP. (Was having trouble with update downloads / installs from micro.) but over all the system was working fine. I have Norton 05 Premier / goback if I can get to it. I just installed a new hard drive, 'Steup' had identified hd but I never got windows to open. Can't say that I know what happened,, seems to me that it asked about partitions. I do not understand much about that, never have changed or used. My guess, they work like seperators on task bar?? Next I think it wanted to install OS, I figured okay, but why?, it should already have XP on it (old drive) I left old as primary. Then it got to where it was saying it would 'format'. Wait a minute, I know enough to know I'd lose everything, so I rebooted. I've tried a number of time to see if I missed something. I finely decided to open the pc, disconnect the new drive and get back on track. I've tried the 'F8', pays no attention to that. I thought if I could get in to safe mode, I could use my 'GoBack' - which would clear out mistakes or whatever is causing trouble.
I can get a screen that asks if I want to boot from ST32 (my old), from CD-Rom, floppy and SCSI (whatever that is?). I've tried the hd, still get the error. I dont have any start up devices (was waiting to make -trble with the updates yet). So I put my WnXP disk in and same error,, but if I fool around with it (time it just right) I can get it to where it wants to install. "Welcome to setup" it can set up xp. Gives me a partition that looks like what I'd expect my hd to look like, scary part is the free space is the same amount. Have option of 8MB space, that won't work,, tried it . So I'm brave and hit in stall on what I think is my old hard drive. I then get told it has to "format",that's such a nasty word. I have not gone any further. I have a choice of NTFS / 32,, old was 32. Before I go further is there a floppy / disc / download / a tool, that I could purchase to get into safe mode? I thought I'd give my old 98 Norton Rescue floppy a try - nope, but I got what loked like dos prompt. I just didn't know how to move from the A:> to a command that would get me into safe mode. Or better yet, my WNXP I had running. I read here that there wasn't any problem with using NTFS and 32 on same pc. I'm wondering if I have to should I pull the old hd connection (just to be sure), install the new hd get it up and running and then later come back to transferring what I want. OR because my old was 32, stick with 32, and not set myself up for more problems?? I have a full back up on CD of my old HD, would there be anything there I could use to get back into safe. Sorry I'm not better at this,, if I were I'd probably not be in this mess. Could it be I have a bad XP? They been trying to clear up the 'update' thing but nothing has worked.
I've tried it in safe mode too, and I get the same message for defragmenter "disk defragmenter could not start", for scan disk "..could not complete scan ", and system restore just does not respond when I select the restore point, I can only close it.

Installed Norton Internet Security 2005 and now, whenever I try and do a system restore it says "System restore encountered a problem and has to close". It does this all the time, even in safe mode. Symantec has mentioned that I should turn off NIS2005 and try system restore. If it then works it is a Microsoft issue. I have been onto the Microsoft websites and they do not mention how to repair or reinstall system restore
