I run an XP on my laptop. I was downloading a large game file (900mb) and my internet got cut off during the download and it stopped midway. My computer is VERY short of HDD space, so it was crucial I delete the space wasted in my partial download, but I can't find it.
- I tried deleting my temporary internet files & dowloaded program files through Disk Cleanup
- I also tried running a Search for the file name.
Nothing seems to work. If someone can help me find and delete the impartial download so I can get my 800mb's back.
I mistakenly allowed Windows Update to download SP2.I followed the advice in another thread to do Express Install and choose CANCEL after accepting the EULA. But, now how do I get rid of the constant reminder to install SP2? Is there a way of deleting this download?
Reinstalled Windows XP pro to solve earlier problem with text disappearing.Had 88 updates identified by Microsoft Update to install. All but 1, KB938127 (IE 7 Update), installed fine.Tried several times to run Microsoft Update Any ideas? Is there a way to delete the file and re-download from Microsoft?
Boot-up ceases prior to desktop display. Attempted to reinstall windows, but ended up with 2nd WIN2K boot option, which works fine as basic O/S.Ran CHKDISK on C: drive. After initially correcting multiple errors, drive is now OK. I have original WIN2K Pro install disk, but not all drivers for peripherals- help me repair original install.
I know there are loads of threads on system restore - I've checked as many as I could and can't find the same problem, but I apologize if the answer's out there and I've missed it. I have had loads of trouble with my SR - basically it won't restore to any of my restore points and says the restoration is incomplete. I tried turning it off, rebooting and then starting it again, and after setting a few RPs and carrying out a few "normal" restorations, it all went to pieces again and wouldn't go back to any of the points - even the ones that had worked before. I've read on these forums that Norton anti-virus can affect SR... I have AVG 7 as my anti-virus, but I do have Norton as my firewall (I know everyone hates Norton, but it came with my new browser when I changed ISP and I just thought it would be too complicated to change it!)A long while ago I had the same problem, and eventually I had to re-install XP because of the mess I'd got it into, so I hope that doesn't have to happen again, but I really have no idea where to go from here, so any advice would really be appreciated. I did recently cause myself a load of trouble by running my Registry Mechanic halfway through the installation of IE7 (that gives you an idea of the sort of idiot I am!) but this was happening before that, so I don't think it's connected. At the moment the computer seems to be running ok - but obviously with no SR when I do eventually mess it up (again!) I'm going to be stuck.
i cannot seem to do a system restore any which way i try. not even in "safe mode." i cannot find any kind of information about this anywhere, not even microsoft.i was having this problem before and my system was so messed up i started over and installed a brand new hard drive reinstalled windows xp, driver and anti-virius software. i used my pc for a few hours and now the same stuff is happening again.
I have no problem with opening System Restore. But this is what happens; http://img684.imageshack.us/img684/3785/restincmp.jpg I've tried more that 5 different dates to restore. I must use it because i have problem as: http://forums.cnet.com/5208-6142_102-0.html?threadID=381064&tag=forums06;forum-threads
So i just reformatted and put windows XP Pro on. Ive got all new Hardware except Hardrive and Ram. Anyways. Whenever I try to download my basic stuff, like, Winamp, AIM, Firefox, anything that is a program. Ive been able to download MP3s but other then that I just get a essage along the lines of it being a corrupt download or incomplete download when i try to run it. Is this some lame XP protection tat i can turn off? Or something else?
Need to do a system restore to a previous date, but it won't let me.I entering in safe mode and restoring there to a previous date of November 7th 2008 and then click next my computer shuts down and reboots then opens up normally but it says the system restore was incomplete because of an improper shut down and it says this every time i try to do it.
i have been trying to do a system restore for the last week but every time i try i get an error after it's rebooted to say system restore was unable to restore my system as operation is incomplete.i have tried many different restore points but i always get the same error msg
I recently bought a second hand computer. It originally had vista ultimate installed but i was experiencing system freezes during computer game play on games that aren't too high end. I guessed that it might have been an incompatible driver after having read on the internet about the problems people were having with vista/64Bit compatibility.
I know I am not the only one to have this issue, but have not seen a real fix. When our lab users try to save or open Hotmail attachments (Doc, PDF, XLS) recieve the error "Internet Explorer cannot download 94ea from 64.4.61.250. Internet Explorer was not able to open this Internet site. The requested site is either unavailiable or cannot be found.
Restore Incomplete is the message regardless of what date is entered. I have 8.5 gig disk space and turning off RESTORE , rebooting and creating a new restore point did not solve the problem--the message remained the same. Other than reinstalling XP I am at a loss as to what to do. I do not have a need to restore at the moment but I may need to in the future.
My windows automatic updates notifier wants me to download Service Pack 3. I have heard of problems arising from Service Pack 3 (I have XP). Should I ignore it or should I download it?
How do I get the dialoge box to not close automatically after a download is complete? I have to minimize my browser, and open my desktop folder called Downloads to click on the downloaded item.
I have a very large, corrupt disc image on my hard drive that I want to delete, but every time I try to delete it Windows displays the message "Cannot delete 'filename': it is being used by another person or program. Close any programs that might be using the file and try again." The disc image is not mounted with any program, and hasn't been for some time. I tried aborting random processes that I thought might have something to do with the file, as well as restarting. No matter what I do, there seems to be something using the file. Are there any tricks to getting around this so I can delete it? Can I check, somehow, to see what program is using it?
Is the following file to be deleted 16 - DPF: {72C23FEC-3AF9-48FC-9597-241A8EBDFE0A} (InstallShield International Setup Player) - http://ftp.hp.com/pub/automatic/player/isetupML.cab

When I start up whether in SAFE Mode or Normal I automatically get the Confirm Delete Message. This applies to programs, icons, photos, documents , folders etc - I cannot get to any of my work to back it up. I have tried Stinger -F-Force and W32.Blackmal@mm Removal Tools. Ran a full AVG scan with uptodate anti virus and Adaware Spyware. Sorry forgot to mention other things tried. The Pop up message does not appear in the Task Manger either as applications or processes. Each time you respongd NO to negate the delete it pops up again. There is no way I can get to any of my folders or files to burn to a CD as backup without the Confirm Delete message.
I am attempting to clean out my temp files on my Windows XP Home. The files and folders that I am addressing are: C:WINDOWSTEMP*.* *.OLD *.CHK *.BAK ~*.* _*.* and MSCREATE.DIRI have managed to clean all but one, which is _*.* When I run the search, I get the result of 144 files. I click on edit, select all, then file, delete. I receive the following error "cannot delete file: Cannot read the source file or disk" (please view screen shot). When I right click, I have no delete option, just "open containing folder, copy, and extract. (please view screen shot). I have run AdAware, Spybot, Ewido, and Avg Free. I also have CCleaner, Easy Clean which I have run. I have also used "Move On Boot" by putting the file path in the MOB window and try to have MOB delete the file. MOB says the file will be removed on the next boot.
Bought Win/XP on ebay, OEM version 2002, has COA. While long formatting process is going on I want to ask: Will SP2 download automatically once I have disc installed on my new HD and connect to internet? ebay seller said SP2 was included but package says nothing of the kind. Version 2002 on the manual tells me it was pre SP2. Somehow I took seller's statement to mean it was on the disc.
My computer will not download the new AVG 8.0. It slows right down and the program is corrupt. I am trying to do an on-line scan with Trend Micro HouseCall 6.5, and it is saying the my interent connection is SLOW.I need the new AVG 8.0 by May 31, the old one runns out.
I am behind the times, but have decided to install SP2.I had to flash my bios, thus my reason for putting it off.Puzzled as to where I go for the download.I have gone to Microsoft site where it gives the option to download, but all it does is scan my system for updates, no option to download. How can I get SP2?
I am having problems downloading any programs. Including my auto updates. I contacted my Internet service and they believe that this is a spy-ware problem. They ran me through different things to try and I still cannot download. Every time I try I get a pop up that states Microsoft has encountered a problem and needs to close. I was able to set up temp web page through my Internet service, but am unable to complete the process due top the fact that I cannot download.
I am trying to design and get a Website up and running. I am finding this confusing enough. Then Dreamweaver told me I ought to check to see if IIS (Internet Information Server) was installed, so I did (it wasn't - no C:/Inetpub). Then, again following directions, I went to Control Panel/ Add or Remove Programs/ Add or Remove Window Components to install IIS.
Not an option. So I went to www.microsoft.com/downloads and could find all sorts of ancillary helpers to IIS (Internet Information Services (IIS) 6.0 Resource Kit Tools, Internet Information Services (IIS) 6.0 Manager for Windows XP, Internet Information Services (IIS) Lockdown Tool 2.1) but noplace from which I could just download IIS 6.0.
