I recently purchased a Sandisk Micro Cruzer 512M USB flash drive. It works fine on my Win2K at work. It works fine on my Win98SE after loading the driver. It will not work on my Win XP Athlon 2000+ system (MSI KT3 Ultra mother board with VIA chipset, USB 2.0).It says 'Unknown Device" in the device manager listed under USB

This in plain non-techie English? My Microsoft Camera and scanner Wizard no longer comes up when I insert the FLASH-CARD from my HP digital camera in the FLASH-DRIVE on my PC. Nothing happens now, It worked great for 2 years.How do I get the wizard back so I can unload my camera using the flash-card in the flashdrive?I have WXP-Home/SP2. I downloaded some XP security updates but don't know if they caused the problem.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have Windows XP and my administrator account is not working properly.Sound devices disappear, but it only happens on admin. user. If I switch user to a limited account, the sound device is there. Sometimes as my admin user is loading the screen goes black and the computer restarts. Sometimes the firewall has been turned off, or the virus scan is disabled. My internet explorer will not open. I created another user as an administrator and it does the same thing. But the limited accounts are all working fine. I have run a virus scan with MacAfee, and also run Xoft Spy and Spybot. I have an AMD Sempron Processor 2600+ and DSL internet connection. Someone told me it could have something to do with the auto updates.Please tell me if this sounds like a virus (that only attacks the admin user?!@!) or how I can fix this. There is no help and support on the start menu for a limited account.

When I switch to this account, and try to setup, say, my email client, the configuration or settings do not stick. On a couple other apps too, when I click on them to start them, it's as if it's the first time they are being executed. I enter the info, apply or save, and when I shut the app and come back into it, the same thing happens. For instance; in the email client, each time I go in, the setup wizard starts and asks for my pop3 and smtp etc..I enter it, save, shut the app, come back in and the wizard starts again, asking for the same things.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have been using my home built computer for about 3 months. I am using WinXP Pro. My CD-RW drive hasn't been seen as a CD burner. In My Computer, the CD drive comes up as "CD Drive (D: )". When I try to drag and drop files in the Windows Explorer window and then click "Burn to CD", it says there is no CD-RW drive. But when I use Nero 5, it works fine.
What is the problem and what do I do to fix it? (I'm not going to reinstall Windows!)
I cant install Flash Player 9 on my computer at work, it is running windows xp. I can install other programs like Google earth, but the installer for Flash Player 9 asks for admin priviligies. actually it doesnt even ask it just says you do not have admin rights. My questions is, is there another way around it?. I have downloaded the program to the computer but just cant open it to install. Maybe there is a trick or maybe another version of flash player that doesnt have the install searching for admin rights first like Google Earth.any Flash Player will do. If anyone can maybe find a version that I can install or maybe a trick I can use to install it. My boss is on vacation untill after the new year, and nobody in my office has the abbility to log on as admin on my office computer.

I turned it back on and it gets to the HP Blue Screen. About 3 seconds after startup.Does nothing else.
When I turn the comptuer on i see the 3 lights on the Keyboard but then goes away.And any option at this screen like the F2 F10 or the ESC do not work.Sounds like the Harddrive is running fine.But just sits on that screen.Reboot and same thing.I did reseat the SATA and power cables on the Drive just to make sure.

i would like to embed this in a forum i belong to. i have embedded images and Internet. now i have this tiny audio file i want to embed and i get this message when i try: you may have entered certain html or script tags which are not permitted. you can insert html and flash, but not script or other objects. the above is how i've been trying to do it so it will play on the forum thread. i don't want just a link to the other site. also i have used embed in place of audio and that doesn't work either.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI had a problem with my windows. When ever I plug in my Flash drive (i got a few: kingston data traveller 1gig, pendrive 128mb,etc) onto my usb port. Window will be able to detect the drive had been plug in. I can see the "Safely Remove Hardware" icon on the right side of my task bar. But i cannot see the drive appearing in "My Computer". If I double click on the "Safely Remove Hardware" icon and try to view the external drive information, I can see that its already detected and being assign with drive E: . Even if I open a windows explorer and type in E: , it will throw me an error "Cannot find 'file:///E:/'. Make sure the path or Internet address is correct". But if I were to restart my computer, then i can see it for the first time. If I disconnect it (thru the "Safely Remove Hardware") and plug it back in (or plug another flash drive), I cant see the external drive. Causing I had to restart my computer multiple time a day.

Of course, the non-admin users can't use drive manager to change the drive letter. Is their a way around this problem?

View 2 Replies View RelatedWin XP Pro, USB 1.1 in front, 2.0 card added to PCI slot.I can put in a jump drive or a flash memory card reader and hear the XP bong, it does the new software found and says it's available, but It does not show on 'my computer'.I can go to manage, disk drives, and see it. I can right click and assign a drive letter, but still does not appear on 'my computer'.I can still open it after assigning a drive letter in 'manage' and read/write files from a new window.I'm suspecting BIOS? It was a machine I upgraded to XP Pro.
View 14 Replies View RelatedI'm using a sandisk cruzer to try to install windows on my new rig. I've got a legit windows key, and serial number. Just lost the CD a long time ago, and don't have a sata Drive. Now, there is windows XP on my current sata harddrive but it is incompatable with the system (it was installed on another system.) So sense I don't got any DVD/CD burners, or any way of buying one for a month. I looked into making my USB flash drive bootable. I've used the HP USB Disk Formating tool to format it with FAT32, and dos Windows 98 files (Command,IO.sys,MSDOS.sys) thinking this would make it bootable. Tossed A version of windows XP I downloaded SP3, onto the drive, appatempted to boot it, but when I boot the flash drive with my gigabyte X38 DS4, it just loads windows 98 for half a second and brings me to a DOS C:. which was similer when I tried to install windows 7 from my USB drive where as that brought me 2 windows ME dos screen. It seems not to autorun so I don't really know how to partition my disk, format, and install a fresh coppy of windows.

His computer is only about 2 yrs old. Anyway, he ask me if I'd copy the free programs ad-aware and spybot, since it takes him so long to download anything, which I did. I gave him the drive, but when he tried to access it, he said it gave him an I/O error. His computer wouldn't read it. I brought it home and plugged it in and it works fine on my machine. On his he said it'd show up as a drive (H:), but when he tried to open it, it gave the error. You don't have to install any drivers (at least you didn't on mine. It came with no cd. Will this drive only work on my machine or what.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI saved some old CAD drawings using DOS commands onto a USB memory stick, to be able to transfer the CAD files onto another computer running Win XP Pro SP3. The old DOS based CAD files on the USB memory stick were not recognized by Windows Explorer. When the old HD connected via USB to the Win XP computer happily allows files to be transferred. The memory stick has lots of files on it saved under Win XP and most of it not recognized on the DOS machine, but none of the directories created or files saved on the memory stick from the DOS machine are recognized by the Win XP machine.

However, most of my files have been lost on it, reduced to some obscure format that I can't work with. Also, each time I put it in, I get this message asking me if I want to scan and fix errors on the flash drive. Selecting "more options" reveals that, apparently, it's not a Windows XP drive.What is going wrong? Is there some way to just re-format the entire zip drive and start from scratch?

Sometimes it would show up in device manager or remove hardware but not in my computer. Sometime it would show up in My Computer but the drive name would not be recognized. But if I right-click my wireless connection icon on bottom right and disable it. With wireless network disabled flash drives load just fine.
