Admin Is Jammed Up Limited Accounts Work Fine

Jan 6, 2007

I have Windows XP and my administrator account is not working properly.Sound devices disappear, but it only happens on admin. user. If I switch user to a limited account, the sound device is there. Sometimes as my admin user is loading the screen goes black and the computer restarts. Sometimes the firewall has been turned off, or the virus scan is disabled. My internet explorer will not open. I created another user as an administrator and it does the same thing. But the limited accounts are all working fine. I have run a virus scan with MacAfee, and also run Xoft Spy and Spybot. I have an AMD Sempron Processor 2600+ and DSL internet connection. Someone told me it could have something to do with the auto updates. Please tell me if this sounds like a virus (that only attacks the admin user?!@!) or how I can fix this. There is no help and support on the start menu for a limited account.

Limited User Account Wont Work Fine Using Internet?

Mar 6, 2007

I've recently setup a limited user account on a XPSP2 Home machine. The intent is to use it for internet and email. When I switch to this account, and try to setup, say, my email client, the configuration or settings do not stick. On a couple other apps too, when I click on them to start them, it's as if it's the first time they are being executed. I enter the info, apply or save, and when I shut the app and come back into it, the same thing happens. For instance; in the email client, each time I go in, the setup wizard starts and asks for my pop3 and smtp etc..I enter it, save, shut the app, come back in and the wizard starts again, asking for the same things.

Limited Accounts On Same Machine

Each student has his/her own account. In the admin account bluetooth works the way it should. I cannot get bluetooth to work in these limited accounts. Is there a way to "share" the bluetooth properties/settings with all of these limited accounts?

Accounts Set As Limited - Background

Sep 12, 2007

I am running Windows XP Home Edition, Version 2002, Service Pack 2. Recently I downloaded a registry cleaner off the net. Everything seemed to be going well until one of my children tried to log into their account and Windows hung up. We get the welcome screen and then finally their background, but that's it. No menu bar, icons, nothing. I have their accounts set as "limited", but as soon as I gave them administrator rights, they worked fine.

Admin User Account - Reverse Limited Restrictions

Jan 6, 2006

I made a HUGE mistake today. I was configuring 2 'puters at a time & accidently made the only admin account into a limited account. At first, I swear, I remember seeing the at least one other account that was an admin but I guess not. The login screen is a bit wierd as well. Instead of it being the new xp screen with the users' icon it has the old 2000 version with the window asking for the username & password. I tried to enter the UN in that I thought I remember seeing & a variety of possible passwords but nada.

1. is it possible to reverse the limited restrictions on the formerly admin account without any other admin account. This seems unlikely but I guess there has to be a way, right? (GOD!, I hioe there is a way!)

2. If there really is another admin account (it seems unlikely that windows would allow the only account to be changed to limited access) then how can I recoup the forgotten password. I didnt make a passwords disks.

No More Admin Accounts In Pro

Mar 22, 2007

I've got a user accounts issue. Recently I noticed my main user account (the only one besides the default ones) has lost admin rights. I don't know why, but it could be because I changed its name recently, via userpasswords2. I didn't change it's account type though. Still, if I open up the user accounts panel, it now says it's a guest account. Now that wouldn't be much of an issue, if only the admin account wasn't disabled. And of course I can't enable it, because I don't have the rights. Safe mode didn't help either, and I can't do a system restore.

If I right click on one of my folders, and then go to properties/sharing, it does say 'to share this folder with other users on the computer' drag to shared documents - I have not done this, so thoughtit would not be shared. Where it says' To make this folder and its subfolders private so that only you can access, select the follwing box' - That box is greyed out, so I cannot do anything!

Admin Accounts Won't Login

Aug 25, 2008

One of the office computers never had a password for the administrator account, and it was the only account ever used by everyone. We set a password and created a limited user account. Now when the admin account is attempted to be logged into the message: "C:windowssystem32command.com incorrect parameters" appears. However the limited account will log in fine. When the system is started in safe mode, the admin account can be logged into.I expect that a malware/trojen/whatever may be the culprit. Prior to the issue, Spybot removed 526 problems, but 25 needed a reboot before Spybot could remove them. I ran hijack this and saved the log before any "cleaning" of the system began.

Missing Or Corrupted Admin Accounts

Jul 27, 2005

I am working on a Dell laptop that belongs to a friend of mine. She has a history of deleting folders she doesn't think she needs (can't cuss at her enough, it'll never stop!) Somehow she managed to end up with all of the Admin accounts corrupted or missing. It was actually to the point that the only User that would get past the login would fail afterwards and it would load setting from "TEMP" user.Anyway, the problem is that the only user left that will log in has the lowest permissions level possible which means I can't do anything to correct the problems. I actually managed to use the "Backup" utility to restore enough of the one user that works so that it no longer fails and accesses the "TEMP" user There are two different accounts that had Admin status, both of these say "accessdenied" if you clink on the folders, but if you just hold the cursor over the icon there is a popup that says "empty", both of them.

Admin Accounts Fail To Open

Aug 21, 2009

My Dimension 4500 (XP) has developed a serious fault and fails to log-in to accounts with Admin rights, ie password protected. There are two other accounts which do not need a password to log-in and these open correctly and I am able to use them to run some programs and for some limited use of the internet. But I cannot access my E-mails on that computer. Using Acronis, the C:drive is separately backed-up on an external hard drive which I can also interrogate from my Inspiron computer. I cannot use the LAN to contact the faulty computer from my other computers although the LAN operates satisfactorily between them. The breakdown could extend to the other computers if a fault occurred to the router since this is controlled from the Admin accounts which cannot be opened.

Ranging From Permissions To Admin Accounts

Jan 12, 2006

First part deals with file/folder permissions.Heres what I would like to do. I have this external hard drive where I would like to have three folders: an archive folder containing old documents and e-Mail, an music folder, and a backup folder to where backup software would create timely backups of documents, e-mails, etc.Is it possible to setup permissions so that the archive folder and music folder were read-only to local and network users and only full access (read, write) to the sys. admin? For the backup folder, is it possible to again only allow read only access for users, and allow read, write access for my backup program and sys. admin? I remember in Windows 2k there was a setting in the control panel (I think it was called Users) and in there, when creating groups and users, a sys. admin could put checks by what each user was allowed and not allowed to do i.e. write, read, etc. However, I do not see this feature in my Windows XP machine (its the Pro version.)My other question deals with Administrator accounts. This question actually comes from ideal curiosity, not an actual problem. I know that Windows, by default, setups up an Administrator's account and is only accessible through safe mode, however, I know there is a registry hack to have it show up on the welcome screen. Any who, is this account any different than an administrator I setup in the users control panel? If its not, then why does Windows make you create another administrator account, so that in the end you have the default one and one you create yourself? My thinking is if they are the same, then that's like creating two root users in Linux. If they were different, that would make a bit more sense. Kind of like in Linux, having a root user and a super-user. The super-user having some power while the root has full power.

Two things 1) My description of the problem leaves people confused and unable to help. 2) Given that people can't really know what my intent is in trying to log in as admin. there are obvious ethical issues involved. It's understandable. I want all those user accounts wiped out so I can just start up without logging in as I did before. Will re-installing Windows do that?

Admin Account Treated As Limited User Account

Windows XP Home SP2 in a Gateway Performer 1300 P4 I recently purchased a used computer locally from a private party. It seemed to work fine. Once I got it home, however, I discovered that when I tried to install the drivers for my wireless adapter, the InstallShield Wizard would come up and extract the files from the CD and then go away and nothing would happen. When I went to the Windows update site, it would not down load the activeX control to check my computer for needed updates. It did the same thing. It would show that it downloaded the file and then nothing would happen. I talked to a local computer shop and they said they have had a lot of trouble with "broken" Windows Installers lately. So I went to the Microsoft site and downloaded the updated Windows Installer (as they suggested) and this did not change anything.
