When I plug in my USB Flashdrive the computer "Restarts" I have just last week done a reinstall and everything is working fine. Has anyone any idea how to solve this? Before the reinstall the same flashdrive plugged in and worked fine.
View 6 Repliesi've been running windows xp and the latest version of flash on this computer for as long as i can remember. the only thing is, about a year ago my computer tended to restart itself when i tried to load a large flash/shockwave file on both ie and ff. some websites cannot cause it to crash at all, Internet, for instance, but other websites like gametrailers cause the problem in hand.i've tried installing and reinstalling them many times, but the problem persists to this day.if anyone could help me to resolve this.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI had a problem with my windows. When ever I plug in my Flash drive (i got a few: kingston data traveller 1gig, pendrive 128mb,etc) onto my usb port. Window will be able to detect the drive had been plug in. I can see the "Safely Remove Hardware" icon on the right side of my task bar. But i cannot see the drive appearing in "My Computer". If I double click on the "Safely Remove Hardware" icon and try to view the external drive information, I can see that its already detected and being assign with drive E: . Even if I open a windows explorer and type in E: , it will throw me an error "Cannot find 'file:///E:/'. Make sure the path or Internet address is correct". But if I were to restart my computer, then i can see it for the first time. If I disconnect it (thru the "Safely Remove Hardware") and plug it back in (or plug another flash drive), I cant see the external drive. Causing I had to restart my computer multiple time a day.

Of course, the non-admin users can't use drive manager to change the drive letter. Is their a way around this problem?

View 2 Replies View RelatedWin XP Pro, USB 1.1 in front, 2.0 card added to PCI slot.I can put in a jump drive or a flash memory card reader and hear the XP bong, it does the new software found and says it's available, but It does not show on 'my computer'.I can go to manage, disk drives, and see it. I can right click and assign a drive letter, but still does not appear on 'my computer'.I can still open it after assigning a drive letter in 'manage' and read/write files from a new window.I'm suspecting BIOS? It was a machine I upgraded to XP Pro.

Just lost the CD a long time ago, and don't have a sata Drive. Now, there is windows XP on my current sata harddrive but it is incompatable with the system (it was installed on another system.) So sense I don't got any DVD/CD burners, or any way of buying one for a month. I looked into making my USB flash drive bootable. I've used the HP USB Disk Formating tool to format it with FAT32, and dos Windows 98 files (Command,IO.sys,MSDOS.sys) thinking this would make it bootable. Tossed A version of windows XP I downloaded SP3, onto the drive, appatempted to boot it, but when I boot the flash drive with my gigabyte X38 DS4, it just loads windows 98 for half a second and brings me to a DOS C:. which was similer when I tried to install windows 7 from my USB drive where as that brought me 2 windows ME dos screen. It seems not to autorun so I don't really know how to partition my disk, format, and install a fresh coppy of windows.

His computer is only about 2 yrs old. Anyway, he ask me if I'd copy the free programs ad-aware and spybot, since it takes him so long to download anything, which I did. I gave him the drive, but when he tried to access it, he said it gave him an I/O error. His computer wouldn't read it. I brought it home and plugged it in and it works fine on my machine. On his he said it'd show up as a drive (H:), but when he tried to open it, it gave the error. You don't have to install any drivers (at least you didn't on mine. It came with no cd. Will this drive only work on my machine or what.

It didn't come with any instructions and the website didn't help either. I want to put private information on this flash drive and lock it(password protect it). View 2 Replies View RelatedI saved some old CAD drawings using DOS commands onto a USB memory stick, to be able to transfer the CAD files onto another computer running Win XP Pro SP3. The old DOS based CAD files on the USB memory stick were not recognized by Windows Explorer. When the old HD connected via USB to the Win XP computer happily allows files to be transferred. The memory stick has lots of files on it saved under Win XP and most of it not recognized on the DOS machine, but none of the directories created or files saved on the memory stick from the DOS machine are recognized by the Win XP machine.

However, most of my files have been lost on it, reduced to some obscure format that I can't work with. Also, each time I put it in, I get this message asking me if I want to scan and fix errors on the flash drive. Selecting "more options" reveals that, apparently, it's not a Windows XP drive.What is going wrong? Is there some way to just re-format the entire zip drive and start from scratch?

Sometimes it would show up in device manager or remove hardware but not in my computer. Sometime it would show up in My Computer but the drive name would not be recognized. But if I right-click my wireless connection icon on bottom right and disable it. With wireless network disabled flash drives load just fine.

I can open it by right clicking and choosing explore or open, and the auto open still works when I first plug it in. It works just fine on other computers. I've tried error-checking to no avail. View 19 Replies View RelatedThis is the first time i've done this. I'm using windows xp. I have a flash drive that i use for backing up files. All of a sudden I can't access it. When i plug it back into the USB port that I used it originally, the computer reconizes that it is plugged in (by showing that i have a new drive) but asks me to insert a disk. I've tried it in my other USB2 ports with no luck. I notice that the LCD (?) flashes when I plug it in. I've tried other flash drives in the same ports and they work fine. I'm wondering if I some how changed the format from FAT to NTFS or the other way around.

They are charging $80-100 for a copy of XP and this could significantly reduce my price. I would also need to know how to install it on this new computer if this is possible, which is unlikely.

FIne and dandy.I now say to myself "SELF"? what will I do if my PC becomes completely hosed and will not even boot.I know. I will have a nice doorstop.Now my question is can I make a bootable flash drive to restore my backup I see the option is there but I have seen more than once researching with Google that this will not work. Seems to me doing this with CDs would require a dozen in my case. My computer does not support DVD.
