I have Win98 running on an old PC and now wish to remove it and install win2k Pro with my CD. I have saved the 4 boot disks and the makeboot exe.disk using 5 floppy disks. What are the steps I should use to install this OS. I have 256MB ram installed. As usual,
I get a winlogon.exe error when i boot my computer, it appears at the login window. and if i hit 'ok' or 'cancel' the computer gets rebooted. I've checked other posts as well as the post at 'simple pc help', but couldn't do anything. I also tryed to use the win2k intall cd to repair the installation but it didn't work.
I have a user with a home driectory that has created a folder with mutliple folders within it. I am not sure how far the direcroty goes, but I have counted to at least 26 directories deep. I cannot delete the parent folder in either explorer, or from the prompt. At the prompt I have tried RD foldername and it says, "Folder not empty". Tried del foldername*.* with no error and still cannot delete it.
After trying VPC with Win2k I noticed everything is a lot faster and responsive, only start up is slower when compared to XP Pro. Should I downgrade to Win2K, This is unbelievable even though I was running in VPC Adobe Photoshop CS2 was running faster in the Virtual PC then it would on my XP

After upgraded my pc from 2000 to XP/SP2, both my cdrom and dvd burner are disappeared. No question mark in control panel/device manager. Tried the method posted on microsoft support artical No.320553 by deleting 2 keys in regeistry, it does not help. MB is old asus a7v133 with VIA chipset, it do find cdrom/dvd in POST.
Boot-up ceases prior to desktop display. Attempted to reinstall windows, but ended up with 2nd WIN2K boot option, which works fine as basic O/S.Ran CHKDISK on C: drive. After initially correcting multiple errors, drive is now OK. I have original WIN2K Pro install disk, but not all drivers for peripherals- help me repair original install.
My company has 3 compaq presario s6500nx that came loaded with XP Home and all the compaq crapware. We are migrating the machines from home to 2000, because they are too cheap to upgrade to xp Pro. I am having a difficult time location 2k drivers for this machine. I go to HP/Compaq and the only drivers they have available are for XP, does anyone have any experience with a 2k migration on these machines?
I have inadvertently setup my laptop with both Win2000 and WinXP. The intent was to set it up (clean install)with XP. I thought that now that I have both OS's on the same partition, I could still do a new install by booting to the XP CD. I go into BIOS, make sure the CD is the first device, save, and reboot the machine. It wants me to pick an OS. It does not want to (seemingly) do an install. How can I fix this. If I must reformat the drive, fine. Please point me in the right direction to get a single OS(XP Pro) on board my machine.
I'm trying to set up a functional limited-user account (windows 2000 pro) that runs painlessly. I know it's a pain setting them up, or I am just really struggling. If there are any usefull guides anyone could provide a like to, or solutions,I am faily knowlagable with computers, but setting up functionable limited-user accounts is over my head. My goal is to run NOT as admin anymore.
I did a big no no I know. I changed a key in the registery without backing up. I am now unable to run .exe files. For example I am tring to install drivers for a USB PCI 2.0 card. I entered in the disk and double click on .exe file and get error> Cannot find the file d:usb2.0 cardviavia6202setup.exe. Make sure the path and the filename are correct and that all required libraries are available. This error is consistant when I try and run any .exe file. 2nd example start>run>iexplore.exe get error cannot find file iexplore.exe. Make sure..... and the rest of the error message. This started when I was tring to manually remove a virus. I followed the directions from this website. http://www.symantec.com/security_res...445-99&tabid=3 see step 6 Delete the current value data, and then type: "%1" %* quote-percent-one-quote-space-percent-asterisk.
Im trying to boot a Win2k computer... It hangs at the Windows 2000 prompt with the blue bar going across the screen... I can boot into safe mode but not regular mode...
I recently purchased a Sandisk Micro Cruzer 512M USB flash drive. It works fine on my Win2K at work. It works fine on my Win98SE after loading the driver. It will not work on my Win XP Athlon 2000+ system (MSI KT3 Ultra mother board with VIA chipset, USB 2.0).It says 'Unknown Device" in the device manager listed under USB
I have made two clean installs of Windows 2000 Professional today trying to figure out a problem. It all started with my first install. It was behaving funny, freezing on startup (after desktop icons loaded) every other reboot or so. I put the latest Via chipset drivers on there, and nVidia video drivers (to get out of 16 color mode) and then the freezing upon boot seemed to stop. Is something somehow messed up in Windows 2000? I'm not sure where to go from here.
I have a Win2k installation that I had to "repair". I'm trying to upgrade to XP on this disk to preserve settings but XP Upgrade disk thinks I have an evaluation copy (not so - repaired 2000 from full version sp4 CD bought from Staples years ago). I run winver.exe and it confirms a licensed copy of 2000 and not an evaluation copy. I'm not sure exactly what brought this 2000 system to a halt. I've been trying to fix it on and off for two weeks now after I installed some polaroid digital camcorder software and everything went south. I have an MSI 865PE Neo2 MB and I'm not sure exactly what happened but I lost 3 gb of 'data' on this Western Digital 80gb harddrive suddenly without having any known viruses/trojans or HD problems. Diagnostics ran and run clean. Lost all network connectivity, USB
I am running Win XP-SP2. I wiped my hard drive due to irresolvable software conflicts. I reinstalled XP-SP2, Office, Norton, the printer and scanner and my digital camera software package. All were updated and working perfectly until Sunday. I booted up the machine only to get a warning that says One of your disks may have errors let the computer reboot itself (which it will do repeatedly, stuck in a reboot loop) or you can hit any key to ignore this warning. You have only ten seconds to read all this and make a decision.
Once the computer boots up, everything seems to work as normal except for system restore. I tried to restore to the day after I reformatted and installed everything and all I get is an error saying Cannot restore to that point, please choose another point to restore tooor something to that effect.
a message keeps popping up saying the following: Cannot load dialog. Error 623: The system could not find the phone book entry for this connection. All I can do is click the close button and it goes away and nothing else seems to happen, but it pops up again in a few minutes.
My nephew's company has a server with Small Business Server 2003 SP1 and they run Windows Backup for their daily backups. The event log errors with Event ID 6013 and says:
When I try to install updates from Microsoft's site I get an error saying "Updates were not successfully installed." This happens during both manual and automatic updating. I search google.com high and low and cannot find a fix that works. This is the specific error from the WindowsUpdate.log FATAL: Error: 0x80070005. wuauclt handler: failed to spawn COM server FATAL: 0x80070005: ERROR: Remote update handler container process created (PID: 1656), but exited before signaling event
I have a Dell Inspirion laptop and have formated the HD and removed the partions. Have tried booting from a USB HD and have also tried another burned disk. No change will not install.
i had was my motherboard cpu fan not working in its cpu fan pin, so instead i have it hooked up to a case fan pin. I am not sure if this means i have a faulty mobo or not.
I installed my brand new Creative sound card, I installed its software and drivers all fine and the PC restarted fine. Next creative wanted to update the drivers and I let it. After it was done installling the new drivers it needed a restart. On restart I could not even get to the post screen and was displayed with an error saying USB over current, PC shutdown in 20 seconds. At first i could not get past this error at all, so i tried taking out the sound card and putting inserting it again. I did not get the USB error now and was happy.
I played Battlefield 2142 for a few hours then shut it down. Now today when i get home from work and turn it on i saw that USB over current error again and got frusterated. After taking the sound card out and putting it back in I had some new problems. I only saw my Asus Splash screen saying "press delete to enter setup" although pressing delete did nothing, it just hung on that screen.
window loads, sits, finally other half will load, mouse just doesn't seem to do anything so you click again and 3 minutes later 2 of whatever will finally open... just annoying crap really A few days ago comcast went off and I had to unplug modem, wait, then plug back up and restart system. I got a "Disk read error press control, alt, delete, to restart" error, tried that same thing so I shut down and when I turned back on it booted fine. I have since moved... just set up the system and am getting the same error except this time shutdown/restart isn't working ( The OTHER problem I realize is this... this is a tempory move! Most everything I own is in a storage unit, boxes to the back, furniture to the front and guess where my disks are? Right! I put printer, shredder, disks, everything I didn't just HAVE to have in the storage unit.
Man, my computer for the last two weeks have been crashing like an emo. I mean, when I play GTA: San Adreas, in 20 minutes, I get a BSOD with a stop error. When I put hardware acceleration to full, in a half an hour, I get a BSOD with a similar error. Believe me, I got three kinds of errors, and some were from different time. I believe the problem either came from the either the PSU, new 512 mb of ram, old 512, CPU, system board, or the graphic card. I'll try to post the error as best as I can. So, is there a solution to this? Error Message: STOP 0x000000EA THREAD_STUCK_IN_DEVICE_DRIVER (Q293078) This is one of them, but there another one with KMODE that I can't seem to remember. Also, sometimes, after it tries to recover from a serious error, the computer shuts down during the bootup before I can choose which XP version I can choose. Also, I hate to say this, but I'm not using a legit windows copy sp1, but I have updated to sp2.
i had XP 2008 virus/spyware, which I think I managed to get rid of with Malwarebytes' Anti Malware and System Mechanic 7. Now I have a new problem. After receiving a recent download from microsoft, upon restarting, I get the blue screen of death with this message; STOP: C000021a (Fatal System Error) The Windows Logon Process system process terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0xc0000005 (0x00000000 0x00000000)
I can't get anywhere into Windows, I've done F2, F8, F12, everything I could think of without risking more damage. I've booted from the system mechanic CD with the Hard Drive recovery, and while it said it found and fixed a problem, it didn't fix this one.
When I'm trying to start up Windows XP Home Edition I receive an error box without an error message, I can just click YES or NO. Neither option let's me continue. When starting up in Safe Mode, everything works fine.
When trying to install Windows XP Pro I get the following error message "Setupdd.sys cannot be loaded error 14. Setup can not continue. Press any key to exit."
I have been getting the dreaded blue screen of death with STOP: c000021a (Fatal System Error)" Error Occurs when i log into my windows 2000 service pack 3 and my linksys wireless usb network adapter connects me to the internet. My computer will remain on and run fine if i do not connect to the internet. This also will happen if i connect to the internet using my backup 56k modem
after I reinstalled Windows XP with SP2 I cannot install my canon fax l-350 german title. The setup quits with the subject's message. I searched the web and found some other people having the same problem
