problem started about 2 weeks ago, seems to only crash when loading video files specifically
Running windows XP Pro SP 2
Recently, two weeks or so ago, every time I access My Video folder in My Documents (I am the administrator) I get the message that Windows Explorer has encountered a problem and has to shut down. Then the message to send details to Microsoft. After a few trials I have found that programs such as Photoshop or Picasa for two examples close as soon as I access said folder with them.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI think these two are related, but I cant seem to find anything that would explain why either is occuring. When trying to load Photoshop, Dreamweaver MX, or any other heavy duty program (3D Studio Max etc), I get the error "Explorer has caused and error and needs to close". Also, when trying to run some problems I get an error stating that I am running a 16-bit MSDOS sub-system and references the files command.com and autoexec.nt. Last I checked the MSDOS subsystem quit with Win2K. I've run ad-aware, spybot, and AVG antivirus trying to find something that way that may have effected the system, but I didnt find anything.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a windows xp media center edition. I do not have any problem with any software or windows xp as such. There is only one problem which i face from time to time. If I sometimes open a video file or so (or sometimes only clicking on it in win explorer) then i get error Run time error occured and would you like to debug using visual studio... (i have vs installed.).
View 1 Replies View RelatedWhenever i try to play some of my video files (.avi, .mpg. wmv. etc) my shell and media player will both crash. For shells i have tried both bblean and standard explorer, media players i have tried are windows media player, winamp, and bsplayer. It dosent actually crash the program, it just brings up the little "this program needs to close" thing. if i drag it to the side the video will continue to play (somtimes). somtimes the videos wont load at all.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI had read a previous post about media files causing explorer to crash. It recommended disabling thumbnails previews, which did work for opening the folder. That is fixed, but now I am getting errors when I try to open certain media files i those folders, I can open one .avi but will not be able to open another. Same with .mpg, I will be able to open 10, but one consistantly will cause Explorer.exe to crash. I had K-lite codecs installed, I tried uninstalling them to see if that was causing problems. I have no idea what is going on.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI clicked on a large video file in explorer (running xp sp2 on inspiron 6000), explorer would crash. i found a tip online to run "regsvr32 /u shmedia.dll" and that fixed the problem completely. however, this fix created a new problem - - now all the info that used to be under "Audio" or "video" is gone! any fix? "date modified" is still there, but i like to sort my video folders by artist, and now it does me no good.by the way, when i now click on an avi's properties, summary tab, and go to advanced, all the needed info is missing from there too.
View 1 Replies View Relatedi clicked on thumbnail view in my folder to view thumbnail on my video file but it doesnt work.
View 4 Replies View RelatedFor reason(s) unknown to me, when I now select "thumbnails" or "tiles" from the View menu of my video files listing page, I am no longer getting thumbnail pictures embedded on the individual video files, just icons depicting what format file it is such as WMV, MPEG, etc.
View 11 Replies View RelatedI need someone to please explain to me how to fix this problem because I just have absolutely no clue how to even start. So whenever I open a video file a small window pops up titled Windows Explorer stating that "Windows Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the Inconvenience." When I close that the window from which I opened the video file closes. However the video file stays open and I can watch it just fine. But other times it will also close the video file too.
View 2 Replies View RelatedNow in the last few weeks i noticed that when i open a folder which contains video files then sometimes when i click on a particular file or so i get an error
An unhandled win32 exception occurred in explorer.exe [3216]
Do you want to debug using the selected the debugger ?
when I try and open up certain folders that have pictures and video from my digital camera I have uploaded whenever I try and open the video files or hover over them I get an error message reading:
Application Error
The ordinal 6880 could not be located in the DLL MFC42.DLL.
After I click OK it closes any & every explorer window I have on the screen. Including the one with the video files in it.
When i play/single click some video files (Xvid) explorer crashes, while its trying to build the thumbnail. These files are not in the my documents folder and can be played through one program that i have (VideoLAN)but most programs ie win media player cant play it.
View 7 Replies View RelatedFor some reason, windows explorer has started locking up when I open a folder with many video clips in it (pretty much any folder with more than 50).I have a feeling that this is a codec problem, but I've installed pretty much every codec I can find and I'm still getting the problem.

View 4 Replies View Relatedthis past week for some reason when i'm trying to access a picture folder located on another computer's hard drive (it's networked), when in thumbnail view explorer.exe totally stops responding. it works perfectly in detailed view and other views, but with thumbnail view it doesn't function. i tried to delete a thumbs.db but there isn't one available.

View 3 Replies View RelatedIt's not all the time. Usually in folders with larger amounts of photos in them. Doesn't make any sense though. I have 1.5 gigs of RAM (PC3200 at that). I can't imagine my pc can't keep up with populating some thumbnails. Can anyone point me to some literature on this?
View 5 Replies View RelatedRecently I was playing a game, when my screen froze. I then shut my computer down to restart it, used it a few times (in 4-bit safe mode), then after I shutdown again, I cant log back in... it just freezes and the screen flashes, I cannot boot into my computer setup (default f2) or into safe mode (default f8), however I can run the XP cd and get into the recovery console, is there any way that I can change the boot sequence from the recovery console? The screen is dotted with a bunch of dots up and down the screen in columns, and is in 4-bit video mode.
I have a Dell xps gen 5 with xp home.
the error I get is:
"Error: Cant enter setup. Video Mode 103 not supported by this video card."
I've been using XP SP2 and have never had a problem with thumbnail view in windows explorer - I turn it on, it shows me pretty thumbnails of any images, movies, etc in the folder. A few days ago, I noticed that it had suddenly stopped working for image files - video and html files still get a preview, but not images. It stopped working about the time when I installed an old version of Photoshop (7.0.1, the only one I had laying about for a quick job I needed it for...), and my efforts on Google seem to imply that it may be the culprit

2. clt+alt+del shows all choices except task manager - so I am allowed to reboot and shutdown
3. When I enter in safe mode cannot see desktop nor icons

5.Prior to crash desktop went RED, hence I rebooted and then the issues.
I cannot get *.MPG files to show a thumbnail. This is occurring on 2 XP machines; the *.WMV extension shows the thumbnail but not a *.MPG extenstion.
View 6 Replies View Related1. Let me clarify that I am NOT USING the same computer that has the problem. I am on a friends computer, so anything I download from majorgeeks will have to be burned to a disk and RAN IN SAFE MODE because my laptop will only run in SAFE MODE until I resolve this issue.1. 2. As of 2 days ago the DESKTOP will FREEZE when it is loading startup icons and the mouse arrow keeps a "busy" symbol and it cannot select the "start" button, cannot click on anything on the desktop, just stays frozen in a "loading"position. I cannot get my laptop to do anything, so I have to CTL, ALT, DEL and do a "Restart" in SAFE MODE, and then I cannot get on the internet or anything in Safe Mode.
First my computer was cutting off in the middle of any program. I decided to delete everything on the drive and reformat it and reload windows xp. While trying to load windows xp it would load the set up but when going to load files it locked up everytime. I tried also loading windows 98, 95 and they too locked up. At one point it said I had a virus in my boot sector and at another time it said I had a virus in my RAM. I got a program called PC Beginner to help partition my drive and redo the MBR. I can partition the drive and format it but windows still doesn't load. Now I wonder if there is a problem with the mother board and I have a dual bios board, I was wonder if there is a program loaded in the dual bios that may somehow causing my problem. If so what can be done to clear the problem? How can I get windows reloaded?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have window XP SP2 installed on my laptop. I also use InterVideo WinDVD Creator for video editing. Recently when I try to import video file into my application, my laptop, processing percentage goes up to 98%, and the application just freezes up. I also tried the Microsoft movie maker software and I get the same result. I was wondering if I need to reinstall the application or there is something that my laptop is missing. The application was functioning fine until 2 days ago, and since then I haven't installed any other application.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm running XP Home. When in Windows Explorer if I right click on a file/folder I get an hourglass for about 25 seconds and then it dumps me out of WE. After I'm dumped out everything else still seems to work fine and I can reopen WE, but still no right clicking in it.
The right click feature seems to work in all other applications.
