It's not all the time. Usually in folders with larger amounts of photos in them. Doesn't make any sense though. I have 1.5 gigs of RAM (PC3200 at that). I can't imagine my pc can't keep up with populating some thumbnails. Can anyone point me to some literature on this?

this past week for some reason when i'm trying to access a picture folder located on another computer's hard drive (it's networked), when in thumbnail view explorer.exe totally stops responding. it works perfectly in detailed view and other views, but with thumbnail view it doesn't function. i tried to delete a thumbs.db but there isn't one available.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI've been using XP SP2 and have never had a problem with thumbnail view in windows explorer - I turn it on, it shows me pretty thumbnails of any images, movies, etc in the folder. A few days ago, I noticed that it had suddenly stopped working for image files - video and html files still get a preview, but not images. It stopped working about the time when I installed an old version of Photoshop (7.0.1, the only one I had laying about for a quick job I needed it for...), and my efforts on Google seem to imply that it may be the culprit

View 3 Replies View RelatedA folder full of PSD files. I have the folder on thumbnail view so I can easily find a look I wan't and choose it instead of opening up each one. The problem is that the folder is not generating a preview of the file anymore but instead shows the PSD icon. I just got a new computer and it is since then that this has stared, as on my old computer the previews showed up fine. Is this a setting I need to change somewhere?

There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason, and sometimes the same file will work, then freeze the next time.The freeze requires a "press and hold" of the power button to turn off the system. I don't get a blue screen, the existing one just locks up solid, and my cursor becomes immobile. No keys will function, nothing.

But then my computer got all screwed up and I had to reformat it and install the windows xp again and downloaded all the new service packs and stuff.But now, I go to either the windows explorer or my computer and for images I can see the thumbnails but for videos it only shows either the windows media or realplayer logo but no thumbnail image of the video. It is driving me crazy because I really need to be able to see the thumbnails in order to identity them fast instead of having to open all of them!

View 5 Replies View RelatedProblem: When I try to work with a picture in an application the application crashes when the "my pictures" folder is viewed in Thumbnail.
examples:
1) From windows explorer when I go to My Documents click on My pictures and select thumbnail view and explorer crashes
2) if a picture is embedded in an email and I right click and select save "save picture as" the "my picture" folder pops up in thumbnail view and I get the error "ms outlook has encountered a problem...." if I report or don't report the error outlook crashes.
3) If I try to insert a a picture into excel...inset>picture>from file. The application opens the "my picture" folder in thumbnail view and then excel promptly crashes.
4) If I try to change the wallpaper on my computer and go to browse which opens "my picture" folder in thumbnail view and guess what...the application crashes. Here is get the error

My pc is so slow that it takes ages to play a song in wmp11. Ive used tools like ad-aware and registry mechanic, tune up utilities. But still no improvement. It used to be just fine, until I installed some pay-for-viewing add program. I have uninstalled it since then, but the slowness remains. And the processor is hogged, at the highest level, even though i killed many a startup processes.

After this error in the Event Log another message is "The shell stopped unexpectedly and Explorer.exe was restarted. The Event ID is 1002 for this one.

I am having problems starting both Internet Explorer and Windows Explorer. Both generate the same error: "Internet (or Windows) Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." The details show that ole32.dll is the guilty module. So far I've had no success in locating a solution. I am using Windows XP Home Edition. For example.. if I go to myspace.com, I can't see any "friends" pictures, (not even my own) I have an account with photobucket and when I log in, all of the names of my pictures are there but not one picture is showing.. If I keep any folder open for longer than like 7 seconds, explorer.exe encounters a problem and needs to close, I can usually just drag the error to the corner and keep looking at the folder for about 20 more seconds before it crashes completely, sometimes explorer shuts off with no warning while viewing a folder. I have tried the remove defective right click menu buttons thing and scanning for viruses, but it still does it, tell me if you want more info.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI like my explorer in the "classic style" with the Folders bar down the side and all files listed in "detail", but since the last couple of automatic Windows updates, it no longer starts up with the Folders bar, which I have to manually click every time, and shows all files in icon by default. Until today, if I click on View Detail, Windows remembered this for that particular folder, and over time all of my regularly visited folders would start up in detail, so the manual configuration was only minimal. Today, however, all files in all folder are back to icons as default, and Windows no longer remembers the detail setting when I revisit folders.
