Would you like to turn filenames off to make more space for thumbnails? Did your thumbnail view unexpectedly stop displaying filenames?Toggle the display of thumbnail filenames by pressing the shift key when you open a folder or when you switch into thumbnail view.
Whenever I save a picture from IE 6.0, the "Save Piccture" window always opens in a thumbnail view of "My Pictures". Is there any way I can make it open in the list view instead?
A folder full of PSD files. I have the folder on thumbnail view so I can easily find a look I wan't and choose it instead of opening up each one. The problem is that the folder is not generating a preview of the file anymore but instead shows the PSD icon. I just got a new computer and it is since then that this has stared, as on my old computer the previews showed up fine. Is this a setting I need to change somewhere?
When using My Computer to view files, as it attempts to load thumbnails of .avi, or wmv. files either in the main window, or in the preview pane, many files cause the OS to freeze solid. There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason, and sometimes the same file will work, then freeze the next time. The freeze requires a "press and hold" of the power button to turn off the system. I don't get a blue screen, the existing one just locks up solid, and my cursor becomes immobile. No keys will function, nothing.
this past week for some reason when i'm trying to access a picture folder located on another computer's hard drive (it's networked), when in thumbnail view explorer.exe totally stops responding. it works perfectly in detailed view and other views, but with thumbnail view it doesn't function. i tried to delete a thumbs.db but there isn't one available.
It's not all the time. Usually in folders with larger amounts of photos in them. Doesn't make any sense though. I have 1.5 gigs of RAM (PC3200 at that). I can't imagine my pc can't keep up with populating some thumbnails. Can anyone point me to some literature on this?
Up til recently, when I'm in Windows Explorer and looking at files in Thumbnail View, I hover the mouse over the file and a pop up window appears showing the Type, the Size, and the Date the file was created. For some reason now, only the Type and the Size show, but not the Date!
Just recently I noticed that when I choose 'thumbnail' view in My Documents, along the top it says 'unspecified'. Here is a picture of what I mean: Is there a way to fix that -- at this point, I'm not even sure what should be there. :S It's not causing any problems, but I'm wondering if maybe it's a sign that something isn't right?
I've been using XP SP2 and have never had a problem with thumbnail view in windows explorer - I turn it on, it shows me pretty thumbnails of any images, movies, etc in the folder. A few days ago, I noticed that it had suddenly stopped working for image files - video and html files still get a preview, but not images. It stopped working about the time when I installed an old version of Photoshop (7.0.1, the only one I had laying about for a quick job I needed it for...), and my efforts on Google seem to imply that it may be the culprit
My problem is that in my computer with windows xp I used to always use the thumbnail view in the windows explorer to know which videos where which and also for images. But then my computer got all screwed up and I had to reformat it and install the windows xp again and downloaded all the new service packs and stuff. But now, I go to either the windows explorer or my computer and for images I can see the thumbnails but for videos it only shows either the windows media or realplayer logo but no thumbnail image of the video. It is driving me crazy because I really need to be able to see the thumbnails in order to identity them fast instead of having to open all of them!
WinXP Pro sp3, IE 7 (Quick launch) Show desktop stopped toggling so I deleted the icon and recreated it. I've followed all the instructions: in administrator, used notepad, carefully followed shell instructions, hit enter after each line including last, saved as (all files) Show Desktop.scf to proper folder. Result = proper icon on taskbar that doesn't react to clicking. Also tried deleting icon and using Microsoft's (we'll do it for you) app and got same result.
I am not able to view the tabs-Theme, Desktop, Screensaver etc. on my win Xp, Service Pack2. What i view is a blank space in place of tabs and the Theme tab details. I can't move on to other tabs.
I now have W XP. When I click on folders I get icons or thumbnails. I want to establish "LIST" as the default way to view files. When I click on List, it works the one time but then future clicks brings me back to the thumbnails.
I have a problemic glitch for a specific folder. This folder is called "Alicia Keys" and has two albums (folders) inside it "Song in A Minor" and "The Dairy of Alicia Keys". The glitch that I am refering to is when I viewed the two albums as thumbnails their filenames become invisible. Sure the usual performances occur, you can rename, delete and add folders, but every file inside "Alicia Keys" will have a invisible name. What is strange is the fact that this only occurs for the folder with this exact same path. C:Documents and Settings<User Name>My DocumentsMy MusicAlicia Keys.
I renamed that "Alicia Keys" to something else for eg. "Alicia Keys2" and the problem wasn't there - both albums revealed their filenames when viewed as thumbnails. I created another "Alicia Keys" and created a new folder inside it and the problem is the same. The new created folder does not reveal its filename (when viewed as a thumbnail as you should know). Completely invisible. This is really strange for me and I assume something in the registry has done this; just something for this exact same folder. Now i want to fix this problem because at the moment I'm organizing My Music with the proper format I want when viewing these folders with details and thumbnail views and whatever. Alicia Keys Certainly has become a real bother.
Ever since I did a factory reinstall 3 months ago, every time I close my machine down and restart, my Windows Explorer settings keep getting reverted back to ICON view instead of my saved DETAIL view.I'm using the button under tools and folder options, View Tab, and Apply to all Folders. Is there something else I'm missing?
I want to perform a clean install on a older dell poweredge running Win 2000 server that i aquired a while back. What i would like to do is create a Acronis True Image of the current install and throw it on an external HD. (i want to keep the current install usable for a few weeks) Then wipe the disk and do a clean install of the OS and start fresh till i get everything running the way i like it. And also create a image of this new install and throw it on the external HD as well.
But during this span of a few weeks i would need to restore to the original install and go back to the fresh install quite a few times probalby....err toggle between the original and new install until all is well. (carry on with the fresh install when no one is in the office, when done for the night restore back to original install untill the next night i can continue with my work and toggle to the new install again and again and again.
I have always been able to put a check mark in toggle keys, hit apply and ok then I would have sound if I accidentally hit the caps lock button. I cannot get this function to hold the check mark and work period, what could be causing this?
I have been running Windows 7 RC beta on a new 1tb harddrive and installed XP Pro on a partition in the D:drive. When I rebooted all that I could get to reboot was the new install of XP Pro. Is there a way to select which system I can reboot from or toggle between them? Hope you can help? Thank you. I am running a Pentium 4, 2 gb ram, 1 tb harddrive.
I have one projector connected to the vga port and monitor connected to the dvi port. It is a geforce 6800 video card. I want to be able to toggle between monitor and project like how you would do it with a laptop when you hit Fn+F4.
Is there a way for me to create a two key combination that will toggle my internet connection on/off? I am right clicking a shortcut to my connection and choosing "disable". I'd like a less cumbersome method.
When I click on the Windows Explorer icon, it opens up with the left side being the blue bar with File and Folder Tasks, Other Places and Details showing. I have to manually click on the Folders button at the top to get the view I want. Is there a way to make this Folders view be the default view when I open Windows Explorer?
For a computer-based-training course I need to create screen images. PrintScreen does a nice job taking screen-shots of the entire screen. I can't narrow focus to particular windows but I need a way to quickly remove and restore the desktop icons. I know about right-clicking the Desktop, Properties, Arrange Icons By, Show Desktop Icons. But this involves too many mouse clicks. It's OK for doing this every once in a while but I do lots of those in the course of the day. any way or tool to assign this to an unused hotkey on my keyboard?
I am having is with my HP Pavilion ZE5730us Notebook. I had to reinstall Windows XP Home on it, and I am now plagued with a NON-functioning wireless toggle on the front, and the blue light stays lit all the time. The wireless function seems to work fine. I have installed all drivers, and have also installed the HP One Touch application as directed by a HP Tech to no avail. The mute button works fine, and all other aspects of the laptop work fine other than the Wireless Toggle Switch and the Blue Wireless Status light. All worked fine before I reinstalled XP Home with a retail install disk.
I use XP Pro with service pack 2 and never had trouble with sound from my toggle keys. I go through control panel and the accessibility options then put a check mark in toggle keys hit apply and ok, the check mark disappears and I have no sound when I hit the cap lock button on the keyboard, the way I have used it before.I also click on the sound tab and put a check in the use sound sentry check box so it will flash the screen when I accidentally hit the cap lock button. I've never had a problem with these functions before now nothing will stay checked or function at all.
I run all of my anti-spyware/malware programs, disc defrag, chkdsk every week. I then create a restore point.Today, for the first time ever, I needed to restore my computer to a previous date because my XP view changed to Classic view and the option to change it back to XP view wasn't available. But the restore points that I saved were not available. I was given a choice of July 1,2,3,4 and 5. The last time I created a restore point was last Monday, June 27th,but when I clicked on the << arrow to go back to the month of June, it wouldn't go back. What happened to the restore points that I created and why couldn't I access them?I know that they were saved because I received a message that they were created. And I have no idea why my XP view changed to Classic View when I turned my computer on yesterday.
I'm running Windows XP Home, with SP2.Currently, in the My Pictures folder, all my photos are represented as a thumbnail. However, on each thumbnail, there is a significant amount of white space at the top and bottom, that is left over. You will know what I mean if you look at my avatar.
