Files With Invisible Filenames When Viewed As Thumbnails
Feb 5, 2007
I have a problemic glitch for a specific folder. This folder is called "Alicia Keys" and has two albums (folders) inside it "Song in A Minor" and "The Dairy of Alicia Keys". The glitch that I am refering to is when I viewed the two albums as thumbnails their filenames become invisible. Sure the usual performances occur, you can rename, delete and add folders, but every file inside "Alicia Keys" will have a invisible name. What is strange is the fact that this only occurs for the folder with this exact same path. C:Documents and Settings<User Name>My DocumentsMy MusicAlicia Keys.
I renamed that "Alicia Keys" to something else for eg. "Alicia Keys2" and the problem wasn't there - both albums revealed their filenames when viewed as thumbnails. I created another "Alicia Keys" and created a new folder inside it and the problem is the same. The new created folder does not reveal its filename (when viewed as a thumbnail as you should know). Completely invisible. This is really strange for me and I assume something in the registry has done this; just something for this exact same folder. Now i want to fix this problem because at the moment I'm organizing My Music with the proper format I want when viewing these folders with details and thumbnail views and whatever. Alicia Keys Certainly has become a real bother.
Now however, my hard drive seems to contain approx 13GB of data which I am unable to locate, even when viewing the "hidden files" option. I first noticed this increased used space when I wanted to defragment the hard drive and noticed that there was only 45% free space available (there is usually 75%).I have viewed the properties of all the folders on the C: drive and they do not add up to the 20GB shown on the C: drive properties...The defragment report states that "some files in the volume could not be defragmented"
I've transferred some wmv files to DVD-RW and am considering putting them also on DVD-R so my DVD player can play them on my TV. Said files are broadband encoded with Windows Encoder 9.0 and run from 350x280 to 472x352 in size.My desktop gives me the option i.e. in Winamp, to double the screen size or go full screeen. Both are satisfying. But, when put into the home theater DVD player, will those 2x/full screen options be there? If not, what kind of picture size (percentage) can I expect to view on my 27" TV?
When using Windows XP the View settings - Thumbnails-Tiles-Icons-List-Details - always comes up as Thumbnails. I would like to change this setting so that the default is "Details". How do I do this? All my efforts to find a solution have failed.
I have 450 gb of music files but my problem is that having been infected by a virus, most of the folder were hidden and i can only accesss after unhiding them from Tools menu, folder options, go under view then i show hidden files and folders first, then i have to go to the second option of unticking the hide protected operating system files(Recommended
Would you like to turn filenames off to make more space for thumbnails? Did your thumbnail view unexpectedly stop displaying filenames?Toggle the display of thumbnail filenames by pressing the shift key when you open a folder or when you switch into thumbnail view.
I'm not sure if security settings were changed, but, when you get the page that website can't open and it tells you the site might be having problems or, to check your security settings, well, I get this parital page on the top of some sites or side, where there's probably suppose to be advertising. I find it kind of distracting and would like to get rid of it. I can't find where my settings were changed, and what would have caused this.
I teach at a university. It's final test time. I keep some private files (tests, scores, etc.) on a USB key at work, and some old tests on my HDD. My computer is hard-wired into a static IP address. I also have a D-Link DIR-300 router in between (not sure if it even has a firewall). I was using my USB key today, and something odd happened. My most important files (tests) I keep locked-up with encryption software called Truecrypt, which requires me to enter a password to unlock a secret USB key partition. I had that folder open today, after working with it, and was sitting at my desk interviewing a student for about 10 minutes. Then I went to close out the encrypted drive (which appears as a HDD on My Computer after I enter a password to access it). That's when something odd happened. The message that popped-up basically said that some of the files on that drive were "in use" by 2 other processes, and if I closed it, then those other processes would lose out. That bugged me a bit, because I wondered just what processes were running in there? I have updated anti-virus software on that machine, and it wasn't doing a scan at the time. Usually the drive just closes-out with no warnings like this.
Then, later this afternoon, I left my computer on and went to class. It's set to sleep on its own after 30 minutes. It didn't. The screen was frozen at my wallpaper with no icons. I then tried to CTRL-ALT-DELETE, and another message popped-up that said (again, paraphrasing), "Two other users are accessing this machine. If you shut down now, the connection will be broken." So now I'm wondering. who the heck are these other users, and what's going on? I don't seem to be sharing anything on purpose. Is it possible that someone is sneaking around inside of my machine? I'm assuming network administrators at work can do this if they want. Do you think that's what was happening? The thing that bothers me about that is that they sometimes employ PT students to help with IT. Could a student have gotten access to my entire machine somehow? Again, my antivirus software is up-to-date (Microsoft Essentials), and I switched to a trial of Kaspersky 2011 after today just out of curiousity after this happened.
The Windows XP machine that my sister is using is having quite the issue. Whenever she views a folder in her My Pictures folder from Windows Explorer, in Photoshop, or when uploading to something onto the internet, it closes down. To be more specific, in the above three cases it closes Explorer (including the task bar), Photoshop, and the browser, depending on the method of viewing the pictures. It comes up with a submit error dialogue box, which along with the error logs don't seem to help me very much (unless you have a better understanding of them). The only changes I can account for was the instillation of one or two LAN remote viewing programs, although one of them runs as is (so wouldn't count as installing). Before that I uninstalled a lot of programs from that computer because I have this new Vista Ultimate machine and they said they didn't want all that "crap" on that computer anymore. I wouldn't blame them.
Whenever I right click now, all the options are what I'd call invisible, and I have to move the mouse over where they options would be to make them each appear individually.
I have 2 maxtor (60gb pr master and 200gb pr slave) that worked perfectly until I reinstalled Winxp, just to see that the 200gb hdd has become invisibile in My Computer but can be seen as hardware with all its stats and is operative. But there’s no way to access it. Is there a way to set that?
My add/remove program list is gone. I can click on the box and it opens but is totally empty. I also have problems with 2 browsers missing links or pics and have no clue how to fix that or if it is related. A while back my puter gave an error saying something like 800assist was missing but I am clueless I am running Windows 2000.
I have a few customers who are determined to screw it up or continually allow others who will. A couple of times recently, I have made service calls that if I could have gotten into the Administrator's account, I could have fixed it; but, some fool had changed passwords on both the user account and the Administator account. Is there a way to create an invisible account with administrator privilidges that can be accessed in some way but that doesn't show up in the log-in screen or under Users and Passwords?
i was on a friend's computer and wound up in a picture folder i didn't mean to. potentially embarrassing and would rather the person did not know. is there a way to erase the date/time etc. when the file/pic was last accessed in the details box for that folder/picture?
My Nortan 2005 is indicating that this file living in system32 is a Trojan Horse. I removed it, but at bootup, it is always trying to be executed. Any idea what the deal is? I tried to remove the call to it via msconfig, but it keeps coming back.
I have a new Acer monitor and because of it's width, all photos seem distorted. How may I correct this problem in order to view photos normally? Any instructions for my Windows XP & my monitor would be appreciated.
Let's say I want to make Adware invisible to anybody who uses my computer. Some real primitive answer is to delete it from the menu and also its shortcut icon. The problems is that you can still see it if you go to Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel. Is there any way to make it invisible there and other places where it can be seen as installed? I've found tons of software to just "hide it away with a keystroke," like when you're trying to "hide it from your boss." In that case what you can do is just use Alt+Tab and Presto !
I was looking at some video clips from Solid Works Website and lost the server So that I couldn't finish what I was doing. I wanted my son to see these clips and I was wondering if I have them and am able to access them on my computer without having to go back to Solid Works Website.
When I use the right mouse button, the menu that should appear doesn't. It is invisible until I scroll the mouse cursor over where it should be. I changed the appearance from XP to Classic and back. That changed the drop down menus back. They were doing the same thing.
After installing the software (which he has now uninstalled) that came with his new Canon camera. When he opens a folder of pictures (all jpgs) and his display default is set to "Thumbnails", he gets SMALL images (but not quite as small as "icons.") It also is VERY slow to display the images. If he changes the display to anything except thumbnail and then back to thumbnail, he gets the proper thumbnail size on all pics. If he just double clicks on the small image to open it and then closes it, all the images in the folder change to the correct thumbnail size.
i have done something in " my pictures " and do not know what i have done when i go to my pictures i no longer see a thumbnail of a piccy..just an icon of paint shop pro. i changed the file type to " open with " windows picture and fax viewer but still no joy and now my pictures cannot be opened by any program
I installed an upgread to AOL on three PC all useing Windows XP Home and it also come with Anti Virus softeware as we all know thing is when we rebooted them and went to look for a Photo in explore (right click START) then My pictures then the file all my thumbnails now look like a ICON with a Brush or a Sunset with a boat I did click on view and it is set at thumbnail
Somehow my daughter has gotten several of the Asian fonts on her computer. In Wordpad and WordPerfect they come up at the beginning of her font list as Arial Unicode MS, @MingLui, @NSimSun, @PMingLui and @SimSun. I have tried deleting them but they are write-protected.When you go to the font list the fonts are all there but many of them are invisible. I have tried uninstalling Office and reinstalling it but to no avail. I uninstalled it tonight but figured I would try and solve the deletion problem before reinstalling - in case they are connected.
I am using Windows XP Professional. Basically, whenever I select to view the folders as thumbnails, the title of the folder does not show up. This happened the other day. I think I hit some kind of key combination wrong or something and it caused it to do that
how to do something in Folder Options, View settings. I have most of my folders in Windows Explorer set to appear as a list. But I would like folders in 'My Pictures' to appear as thumbnails. But when I change them to thumbnails they always revert back to list view when I go back into that folder.
Im using windows XP and ive recentlly built a new computer. I've transfered my photos from the old PC to the new one but all i can see in 'my pictures' is an icon with a frame and a paintbrush on it. How can i see them as thumbnails?
For sometime now,I have been unable to get thumbnails to work for most video formats.avi is the only one that shows thumbs.mov, .mpg, .mpeg, .mpeg4,show only icons.mov shows QT icon, and the rest show WMP icon. I USED to have thumbs, but not for while.Yes, Thumbnails is selected under view. And I have already checked the ShellEx registry key under HKEY_CLASSES_ROOTmpegfile and it is setup correctly. I also ran a script to reset thumbnail views Quote:Restore Thumbnail Views in XP http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm So far, NOTHING has worked.
I have win XP x64 Pro. I have Adobe Acrobat Pro 9 installed & Autodesk Design Review 2010 installed. In windows explorer I can't see PDF or DWF files as thumbnails, I just get an icon image. I can see JPG, AVI, WMV, etc. They all give me a thumbnail image that is correct. I tried reinstalling Adobe & Autodesk Design Review and still nothing. I did however catch something odd. If I open Adobe, then click open, and browse to a folder within Adobe, I can see thumbnails for all file types, PDF, DWF & JPG. The same for Design Review, I can browse from withint the program, and it all looks correct. It's REALLY slow to generate the thumbnails, but they do eventually appear. And once generated, it's cached and the next program snaps them right up.
As the tittle states whenever i restart my computer it changes all the file tiles of when you view folders into thumbnails. I want them all to be into Tile view format or atleast MOST of them. I already tried ticking "saving specific folder settings" in the options but it still resets it to thumbnails after i re-start my computer.
When viewing files as thumbnails in Explorer I can manually rearrange them by simply dragging and dropping. Now they are not in any particular logical order (that is, not by Name or Date Created, etc.), *but* they are in the order I want them. And even when I close and reopen Explorer, as long as I stay in Thumbnails "mode" the files remain in the order I manually placed them. Now here's the challenge: I have been unable to find a way to export a list of these files *in the order I put them*. There are lots of utilities (even the good old DOS DIR command) that make it possible to list files in various sort orders, but none that I have found that will list the files in the order I put their thumbnails.
