I have 2 maxtor (60gb pr master and 200gb pr slave) that worked perfectly until I reinstalled Winxp, just to see that the 200gb hdd has become invisibile in My Computer but can be seen as hardware with all its stats and is operative. But there’s no way to access it. Is there a way to set that?

A couple of times recently, I have made service calls that if I could have gotten into the Administrator's account, I could have fixed it; but, some fool had changed passwords on both the user account and the Administator account.Is there a way to create an invisible account with administrator privilidges that can be accessed in some way but that doesn't show up in the log-in screen or under Users and Passwords?

This folder is called "Alicia Keys" and has two albums (folders) inside it "Song in A Minor" and "The Dairy of Alicia Keys". The glitch that I am refering to is when I viewed the two albums as thumbnails their filenames become invisible. Sure the usual performances occur, you can rename, delete and add folders, but every file inside "Alicia Keys" will have a invisible name.What is strange is the fact that this only occurs for the folder with this exact same path. C:Documents and Settings<User Name>My DocumentsMy MusicAlicia Keys.
I renamed that "Alicia Keys" to something else for eg. "Alicia Keys2" and the problem wasn't there - both albums revealed their filenames when viewed as thumbnails. I created another "Alicia Keys" and created a new folder inside it and the problem is the same. The new created folder does not reveal its filename (when viewed as a thumbnail as you should know). Completely invisible. This is really strange for me and I assume something in the registry has done this; just something for this exact same folder.Now i want to fix this problem because at the moment I'm organizing My Music with the proper format I want when viewing these folders with details and thumbnail views and whatever. Alicia Keys Certainly has become a real bother.
Let's say I want to make Adware invisible to anybody who uses my computer. Some real primitive answer is to delete it from the menu and also its shortcut icon. The problems is that you can still see it if you go to Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel. Is there any way to make it invisible there and other places where it can be seen as installed? I've found tons of software to just "hide it away with a keystroke," like when you're trying to "hide it from your boss." In that case what you can do is just use Alt+Tab and Presto !

In Wordpad and WordPerfect they come up at the beginning of her font list as Arial Unicode MS, @MingLui, @NSimSun, @PMingLui and @SimSun. I have tried deleting them but they are write-protected.When you go to the font list the fonts are all there but many of them are invisible. I have tried uninstalling Office and reinstalling it but to no avail. I uninstalled it tonight but figured I would try and solve the deletion problem before reinstalling - in case they are connected.

sp2, but I have a policy in effect that disables the firewall. I also have a
policy in effect that renames the administrator and guest accounts. IF the
firewall is disabled is there any reason that any of these machines would
not respond to a ping request. Wouldn't be a big deal, but my print tracking
app requires it. All XP machines can communicate with the network just fine.
I can ping anything from each XP machine successfully.
I am using a borrowed computer which has Windows XP installed. I am having difficulty getting a brand new game to load a saved file. I don't know where to look to do a scandisk on this OS.
View 6 Replies View RelatedWhen I opened up the case, the northbridge heatsink clip had snapped off. I put the case on it's side and reseated the heatsink, and put a case fan over it. I reformatted and installed winXP. The computer freezes a minute or so after entering windows. Also ran ubuntu linux off a usb stick and it would freeze after 5 or so minutes. Ran memtest and no errors after 9 hours, Speedfan s.m.a.r.t says the hard drive is fine. I booted into Safemode, and ran orthos small ffts cpu test, and no errors after an hour.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a Gateway FX530XM desktop which came pre-loaded with Winxp mce. I believe that mce is the cause of a lot of problems I've been having so I want to install winxp pro as a second OS.I have created a new primary partition on my HD and set it as active then rebooted with the winxp pro cd in the drive.The cd gets read and I can see my HD access light blinking. The installer asks me for a cd with a qualifying OS because my winxp pro is an upgrade. I go through this and then the installer goes to the screen that says to select a partition to install to. The problem is that what is displayed is several lines saying there is no hard drive to install to. Quite strangely, if my external hard drives (LaCie or Seagate) are on, the installer sees them as partitions that I could install to. I can't use the external hd because I don't think I can boot to it. If I could boot to it I could probably copy the new install to my internal hard drive.

I first noticed this increased used space when I wanted to defragment the hard drive and noticed that there was only 45% free space available (there is usually 75%).I have viewed the properties of all the folders on the C: drive and they do not add up to the 20GB shown on the C: drive properties...The defragment report states that "some files in the volume could not be defragmented"
I'm trying to get a new usb mouse to work on it, and I have the drivers for it - but when installing the 'new hardware', it reaches a point wherein it asks to insert the "Windows XP Home Edition CD-ROM", but I don't have one! It won't allow me to skip this, and if I click cancel, the mouse isn't installed, and an error window appears saying that an error occured during the new hardware's installation.

I have also made sure that they are on the same workgroup. Vista laptop can ping winxp laptop but winxp laptop cannot ping vista laptop.I tried using the same OS i.e winxp it work just fine.

i think it's a compatibility issue but the problem is that i launched the same setup files b4 and they worked,,i have WINXP Pro SP2 and i think i've had this problem after i installed the SP2,,i right-clicked the setup file and i changed some of the compatibility options and it still doesn't work.
I have trouble getting it to stop. I'm running WinXP Pro SP2 on a Dell Optiplex. About 50% of the time, when I want to shut down, I get past the "Saving your settings" screen, to "Windows is shutting down". And that's as far as it goes. I then have to manually turn off the computer. It doesn't matter whether I've selected "Shut Down" or "Restart". The other 50% of the time it shuts down like it's supposed to.

View 4 Replies View RelatedLast night I upgraded to Internet Explorer 7 from some old version (I use a different browser which is why my copy of IE was so out of date.) When I rebooted to complete the installation I got a BSOD that said IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL. Tried again. Same. Last known good configuration, same. Safe Mode, same. Everything I've tried, same. It's a Dell Inspiron 500m laptop running XP SP2. I'm 99.999% sure it's not a hardware problem.I can't find my XP CD and no one I know seems to have one either so a fix that doesn't require the disc would be ideal.
