I would use one, but I don't want one so I disabled it in Security Center. But Microsoft thinks I must have inadvertently disabled it, so Windows Update occasionally turns it back on.Is there a registry tweak to prevent Microsoft from turning the firewall back on?
View 8 RepliesMy Windows XP home dont open , last nite I was making a roll back of a driver of ULi sata 5289 and was ok , then I went to the device manager to chek the status of my driver and accidentally I disable teh device ( I know.... me bad ) now my windows give me the screen of safe mode choice , but when i try to open safe mode , it comes back to this screen , windows try to open but its on loop , how can I get there and enable again the device ? or I need to boot into my CD and fix windows?

I'm told it started this a few weeks back, so I don't know if it's related to a M$ patch. Although I can turn the driver on in the device manager it doesn't want to remember the driver state when rebooted. Last time, when I thought I'd fixed it by disabling unneeded startup programs, I'd stumbled over a program advertising ability to set drivers to be enabled at boot but I don't want to buy a program to solve a simple problem. atm there are just Kaspersky and the Windoh$ firewall plus a few Acer and normal startup programs obvious. How do I set the Ethernet's driver to enabled from boot?..and is it clear what might have triggered this?
View 5 Replies View RelatedMy computer was having a personality disorder so I decided to save all my files from the hard drive and do a system restore back to the original factory settings. I don't have the installation disks anymore and would like to avoid having to order them. When I started the process, the desktop locked up on me. The keyboard wasn't recognized and I couldn't mouse to any programs or functions. It didn't even complete it's startup sequence, and the icons on the right side by the clock never showed up.
So I restarted the computer in safe mode and saved my files. When I tried to do a system restore from safe mode, I got an error stating that system restore was disabled and couldn't be enabled in safe mode. I'd have to restart in normal mode and change the settings. Therein lies the problem: when I start in normal mode the computer locks up immediately, and I can't change the settings
I use wireless device which connects to my Desktop downstairs,which in turn connects to the router upstairs. So I've been randomly disconnecting when playing games like WoW, and CoH & losing connection on the internet as well. It can't be the router I assume since the laptop upstairs which connects to the same thing never disconnects. I have a D-Link router and a D-link gaming router which connects to the PC. Any help?

Now I have tried to use cameramate propix dvd wizard and it says there is no device. I have tried re-installing but that makes no difference and it s the same with nero that cannot find a device. I have usb plugged in and it says there is a new device, but not which one and I or it cannot find a driver. I am really stuck as I want to copy my video.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have Windows XP SP2 installed on an "ASUS P4C800-E Deluxe" which used to work with a Celeron D 2.4 GHz. I Finaly bought a P4 3.0 GHz (HT) and changed the CPU. The OS detected the new cpu and with a driver signing warning, it installed the new processor (The driver is provided by Microsoft). Although everything seems to work fine I don't have "Hyper Threading" enabled in Windows, while it is reported to be available in BIOS. I found some boot.ini editing guide that didn't help. I don't want to fresh install windows since I'm faithful to my aged XP which was installed around 1998 and upgraded to-date! How can I enable HT?
