PC Crashes / Suddenly Makes A Crackling Noise And Freezes
Apr 19, 2007
When i try to download torrents or stream videos, my PC suddenly makes a crackling noise and freezes my computer beyond anything i can do as the mouse will no longer function, the only way to get rid of this is to turn the computer off via the power switch.
Does anybody know a general solution to this or tell me a way i can find the errors that are causing this problem and give you feedback?
I turn on my computer it makes a beeping noise for like five seconds and nothing happens the monitor will not come on. But CD drive still opens and closes
The problem is the screen will all of a sudden pixelate into a whole bunch of blocks and the computer will just freeze. I wish I could take a screenshot of what it looks like, but, obviously I can't. I'm not sure why this problem would be occuring. It's only started doing it recently. It doesn't seem to occur while I'm doing a specific activity either. In fact, a lot of the times I'll be coming back to the computer, after leaving it idle, and the screen will look like this, and I'm forced to just pull the power and reboot.
When I am online I notice that every now and again my system suddenly freezes for about 20 seconds, then whatever I have typed suddenly appears.I thought it might be my virus software or VCOM's Fix-It utility, but suddenly I've noticed it on my sister's computer,on my wife's computer and my mother's computer.Anyone else having this problem and is there a fix?
My pc crashes, freezes and/or restarts during some games - especially online games. Why is this so ?I have a Nvidia GeForce FX2000 and an Intel Pent 4 3GHZ processor, and DirectX 9.03 is loaded.I am at aloss to understand whay it keeps crashing ?
my com crash whenever i use km player to play a movie or TV series, but it is fine with other program( but can't use the other program for long too, cause it start crashing up). and i will freeze for a a while, i can still click to other folders and stuff, but after a while it crash, the i keep clicking my mouse for about 10 times, it start to have a beeping sound from the com.
I have a custom box and an old gateway box. I wanted to transfer all my files from one box to another, so I rammed in the gateway hard drive, copied all files in the root of the drive, and pasted it into a folder on my New desktop. When the file transfer finished, the folder (on the New desktop) disappeared So, I checked the hidden files in explorer. Not there Well, I used the command prompt. Not there either. After a while, I forgot about it, and just recently got a new defrag program (SmartDefrag).
Right where do I start. Ever since I've had this pc it's been doing my head in. It originally had xp media center where a unreadble bugged up my comp as explorer always crashed when i scrolled over the file. I wiped it clean and installed home edition from scratch. All that happens with my computer is explorer constantly crashes, it freezes so i have to wait for it to shut itself down, or i have to switch it off at the plug. Everytime I go on the internet all I get is TARGETED popups and other annoying ones that with no program I ever have the problem is never sorted. Even when i'm barely doing anything major just windows live messenger, 1 or internet explorers open and itunes, the cpu usage goes over belief.
I have an old - 6 yrs old (no-name) PC running Windows Xp (upgraded from 98). Recently I had to erase and reload everything on my computer - including XP - so now I only have some basic programs from established vendors (MSFT office, Norton, Adobe and SBC yahoo DSL). Since I did all of this, now while I am on the internet, my computer will all of a sudden freeze and the screen will become one color (not the typical blue screen but usually the background color of the page I was just viewing) with some vertical lines. At this point nothing works, so I have to reboot the computer.
I am confused, but I will describe this best I can: explorer.exe crashes when viewing folders or anything built on explorer.exe (I guess) at exactly 11 seconds in on them. It also randomly crashes every couple hours. Im extremely confused by all this
Okay, everytime i play a C.D. or mp3's there's a glitch or a clicking noise every 10 secs or so and its a new soundcard. I tried reistalling the soundcard and the clicks is still there.
When I boot up my PC I hear a distortion noise that starts at the windows Welcome screen and continues on for about a minute after the desktop is onscreen. This only happens on complete boots, not restarts, and I never hear the distortion again even if my PC is running for hours upon hours.Even weirder, I can seem to effect that distortion noise with my mouse, altering the sound by moving it around and rolling the mouse wheel.I also hear the distortion on the Welcome screen at a boot when I move my mouse cursor over the User Account icons. Move the cursor over an Icon, loud distortion noise, move it away no noise.
Recently after installing a new sound card after having problems with my previous on board card and when i use the volume slide bar i get a weird dong noise when adjusting the volume level.
I just reinstalled XP due to a computer crash and now I hear a beep with every keystroke. Anyone know why this is doing this and how to turn it off? I've checked the sound profiles and I can't find it.
I'm not sure what exactly happened. But anyways, here's the story. I was browsing the internet on sites I usually go to (gamespot, rapbattles, ign, etc) and then a TV show I wanted to watch came on. So I closed the internet (nothing was opened) and left it on the desktop as I watched TV. Then when the show was over, completely off. And I didn't shut it off! So then I powered it up, and it sat at the little windows xp loading screen, and just kept loading... and loading, and my computer was making a weird noise. So I turned it off via button. And turned it back on a few minutes later, and it went to this screen and said "Windows had a problem starting up" or something like that. And it gave a few options, 3 of them were Safe Mode (2 Safe mode options had something after it, not sure what
In the past few days my mouse makes a clicking noise like it is a Windows assigned noise. It does it at random times, sometimes when I click, sometimes on its own. I checked the Sounds and Audio Devices in Control Panel. All sounds I checked were not the sound I am hearing. I turned off some of them anyway. But I am sure these sounds are not coming from t here. I also looked at the Mouse settings and couldn't find anything to turn a click noise on or off there. I have XP Pro, Maxthon Browser with Spoofbar plug-in, Zonealarm, SBC Yahoo Antivirus and an annoying clicking noise!
I turned on my computer and everything was fine, but realized husband had unplugged the dsl last night due to possible incoming storms. So I replugged in the dsl and as usual when this happens have to reboot my computer to get it to realize its there. So I went to start ..shut down..restart and did it. And it never came back. After about 5 min of it just sitting there I went ahead and pushed in the restart button on the machine. It makes its usual start up noise and the lights all come on except now there is a strange clicking noise I do not recognize and the cd rom seems to hang a bit, then the lights go off (as usual) except for the power light. But nothing comes up on the screen and no sounds are to be heard from the speakers. I now shut it all down and let it sit for about 20 min then retry still nothing. So I open the case up and check all the wires and with a can of air blow away any dust.
When using 3rd party burning software (eg, Nero Burning Rom) to copy audio CD,some noise may be heard at the end of each track. To prevent this, try the following method1. Enter System Propertiesdevice manager2. Select IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers3. Double click on thee CD writer IDE channel4. Select advance setting 5. Change the transfer mode to 'PIO Only'6. Restart Computer
I am having a problem that just started about 2 days ago. My computer, XP home edn., will be working fine, and then I suddenly hear a little squeak coming from the computer, kinda like something being pulled over a pulley and then bang, the whole thing just freezes up on me.So I'll hold the power button to shut it down, start it back up again and sometimes it'll come right back up, like normal. Other times, it'll make that noise again during the start up and it'll just freeze at whatever screen it's at. I just took it in yesterday b/c at the start up screen it was saying something like cannot boot from CD. insert system CD when it was at the very start, saying how much memory and system, etc.The guy said something was just loose, fixed it, and then it worked fine. But it just started up again, with the whole squeak-freeze deal.
My dell dimension 2400 4 years old.Install macfy and it slows down.uninstall Macfy and its back to normal.Install Norton, slows down again.Uninstall Norton..back to normall again.Someone can help.
I have recently merged c & d drives and also had a prob installing nero but that is fixed. Now I have tried to use cameramate propix dvd wizard and it says there is no device. I have tried re-installing but that makes no difference and it s the same with nero that cannot find a device. I have usb plugged in and it says there is a new device, but not which one and I or it cannot find a driver. I am really stuck as I want to copy my video.
Sometimes when I tell the computer to shut down or restart, it won't..until I make it standby and then wake it back up again and then press shut down so that it will work. How can I fix this problem?
In the days of Windows 3.1, I had a program called In Control. Before installing a program, I would start InControl and it would then monitor and record every change to the system made by the installation, every line added to WINDOWS.INI, SYSTEM.INI, every file added or modified and even recorded changes in file time stamps and versions for DLLs etc.Is there anything that thorough for Windows 2000/XP. I want to be able to examine such a record that would not only record file version changes and files added or modified but also every line added, deleted or changed in the Windows Registry. Is there such a utility that really gets it all, down to the last detail?
I bought a computer that has SP2 already installed so I can't get rid of it. It blocks all the pop-ups I need to get to and makes my computer slower.I hate SP2.
I was using my Compaq laptop last night (unfortunately I'm at work and do not have any further identifying info on it...other than it's probably at least 3, closer to 4, years old) and it was fine. I walked away from it for less than 5 mins, when I came back, it was off - no lights, no display, no noise, no nothing. and it would not turn back on. I turned it on again this morning, which it did fine, but after less than 2 minutes (if even that long), it said it was 'preparing to stand by', but never actually reached that stage, instead it just shut off again. Throughout this time it was plugged in. I left it plugged in, but then removed the battery (thinking it might be dead), but still, nothing. Now it won't even turn on - battery or not, plugged in or not.
you know that noise a computer makes when you boot it up that beep noise? well my computer makes that noise at random when it's on,it just slows down for a second then makes the noise then goes back to normal is that bad?
I have a strange intermittant noise coming from my computer speakers. I have never noticed it before and am running pretty much the same software I always have. The best way I can discribe it is a high pitched tickling of the ivorys. I only hear it about once an hr. Short only 3-4 notes
On the system startup, my speakers suddenly produced a high pitched beeping noise. I've tried using a different set of speakers, but the result was the same. I'm not sure what exactly is wrong, but I had recently installed a more updated video driver and a wireless keyboard/mouse. I've tried uninstalling both the video driver and the wireless set (switching back to the old keyboard and mouse), but there was still the beeping noise. Surprisingly, when I mute the master volume the beeping noise stops. Also, the noise applies only to the input speaker (the speaker which has the cable connecting to the computer) and not the other one. I am able to listen to music using the other speaker, but the volume is drastically lowered. My guess was that there was something interfering (such as the wireless mouse and keyboard) with the sound card(?), but since I have uninstalled them (now using again because it is obviously not the problem) and there were no changes, I have no idea what could possibly be wrong.
i downloaded a movie mr and mrs smith its a windows media file when i even right click on its properties the computer starts running at 100% and i cant seem to get rid of the file when i try to delete it it says i cant as someone or another program is using it and i havent even clicked on it even if i put the mouse over the file the computer does the same
