Laptop Won't Turn On - No Lights, No Display, No Noise
Oct 23, 2008
I was using my Compaq laptop last night (unfortunately I'm at work and do not have any further identifying info on it...other than it's probably at least 3, closer to 4, years old) and it was fine. I walked away from it for less than 5 mins, when I came back, it was off - no lights, no display, no noise, no nothing. and it would not turn back on. I turned it on again this morning, which it did fine, but after less than 2 minutes (if even that long), it said it was 'preparing to stand by', but never actually reached that stage, instead it just shut off again. Throughout this time it was plugged in. I left it plugged in, but then removed the battery (thinking it might be dead), but still, nothing. Now it won't even turn on - battery or not, plugged in or not.
I was unable to turn my Toshiba laptop on this morning. It was working fine last night when I logged off. The power and battery lights are on and I've checked all connections but still no luck.
I have a older Imb laptop modle T23 computer and when I shut it down rather then using standby it takes several times trying to get it to come back on. I press the little round on/off button and the (z) button lights up and I hear the fan turn on and all of a sudden a series of beeps, and the screen won't turn on. The beeping is like 8 beeps, then stops but still nothing come up on the screen. Completely black! So i turn off the computer again, and turn on same thing. I continue doing this like 30+ times sometimes more sometimes less, then finally the beeps dont start and the screen is working. So needless to say its still working in the mean time, but its just such a pain if I shut it down. . For now I am just going to continue using standby but when I have updates sometimes i need to shut down.
I am having problems with a dell inspiron 1150 Laptop computer that will not turn on. It is connected to a electrical power cable, and does not have the battery. the power cable is working fine.
I have a compaq Presario V2000. The battery is good, the power from power cord is good. it does come on once in a while if I am lucky. But most of the time When I press on the power button nothing happens just the power light goes on then off. any suggestion where to start?
My Laptop is an HP Pavilion ze2000, and I when I turn it on, it goes to the HP logo screen, then the Windows XP screen, then restarts and does that same process. I do not have my startup disk, and also, it won't let me boot the computer in safe mode, last known configuration or anything.
I just cant turn my laptop back on. I press the start button, I get a message "Windows didnt start properly" with all the usual list of options. I have tried them all "start windows normally", press f11, start with last configuration etc.windows starts for a few seconds, then it cuts itself off and back to former screen.so i never get anywhere. I tried taking battery out, leaving laptop time to cool down.nothing.
I turnd off my laptop using the power button as aposed to shuting it down.. this may have been the wrong thing to do however i was in a rush and had done it befor with no problem.I have gone to turn on my laptop. insted of loading up the usual windows xp user select screen i have been directed to a screen that states "we apologise for the inconvenience but windows did not start successfully. a recent hardware or software change might have caused this."
I have a novatech laptop which i have had about one year. Recently when i turn it on , the clock has gained several years. It doesn't hapen all the time, the most recent time it read 12th 0ct 2015. I know how to reset it to the correct time.
Its come with windows vista, but i downgraded to xp. I have everything runnig fine (audio, video, wireless) but the problem is that my laptop turn off regularly. When i'm working it's just turn off. There's no loging off screen, there is nothing, it just turn off, as if touching the power button on your tv.
My laptop won't even turn on. It's a Dell 700m just purchased 2 years ago. It is in mint condition and even with the charger plugged in, it won't turn on. I held the button down over 3 minutes and nothing yet. Took battery off, waited a few then still nothing. It looks like a dead HD?
when I press the power button (and I've tried turning it on off of the battery, battery and outlet power, and just the outlet power), the light turns on, I can hear the regular whirring, but then the power button starts to flash, as if it's in standby mode? I've tried pushing a few buttons on the keyboard, tried pushing the escape button, tried pressing even the wireless LAN button that's at the top... nothing. When I press the power button, nothing happens unless I hold it down for five seconds, then it just turns itself off again.
I was in the middle of upgrading and installing Macafee on to my Laptop before it shut down and will not come back on... I have removed adn re-inserted the battery, the power supply cord is properly inserted into the wall and there weren't any fuses blown.
Just got my first computer (sony vaio VGN-A115Z) and sometimes when i turn it on the screen has vertical stripes then changes to a chess board looking screen then when it gets to the desktop it is all fuzzy.I don't know a thing about computers but even i know that this is not right,It has windows xp.
Every time i turn on the computer, it restarts by itself before i can log on. then it will just endlessly restart itself until i shut it off. occasionally i can hold esc and it will log on properly, but it takes a really long time and doesnt always work. I am using a Windows XP laptop, and i did a virus scan and deleted all the dangerous files. I even unchecked "automatically restart" for a system failure and nothing happened.
Everytime I turn on my laptop the wireless network connection thingy in the lower right hand tool bar has a big red x on it. Yet, I can connect to the internet. Would anyone know why this does this? I have tried going to "Wireless Network Connection Properties" and then "Wireless Networks" and actually removed my router name. I then reboot my computer, am asked for network key, enter it, and when I restart my computer the same thing happens. This is not a real "problem" but it certainly is very annoying.
I have a laptop that was given to me in bad shape. When I turn it on, it almost immediately freezes, even when not connected to the internet. This makes it impossible to run a virus scan or anything. My ? is, what can I do to fix this problem. Even if I have to lose everything on the computer, I don't care cause I want to start fresh with the computer anyways.
For whatever reason, my Function Key isn't working- so I can't turn up my monitor brightness on my laptop. Is there a way to do this from the menu rather than the Function keys?
I have a Toshiba Satellite A45-S121 running Home XP Service Pack 2.Computer just started to not shutdown. Tried normal shut down from Start also tried Windows Task Manager shutdown neither work.I have to pull battery to shut it down.
My Toshiba laptop running WinXP Pro SP2 with NVIDIA GeForce 420 Go adapter has a 1'' black vertical bar on the right hand size of the desktop display. I have tried many settings on Display Properties window but have had no success in achieving a ''full' display. Many articles on WinXP Microsoft KB tells me how to configure multiple monitors but not how to get my primary monitor to work well. Toshiba's support site also offers no insight. Note that a full screen is displayed during boot and shutdown. I am running NVIDIA display driver. Any clues?
The display comes up at a reduced screen size and I have to go into Display Properties Settings and change the resolution up (which causes the screen to fill the display) and then set the res back to what it was (1280x1024). There are two monitors showing:
1. (Multiple monitors) on Dell 8200
2. Plug and Play monitor on Dell 8200
Number 2 is listed as inactive
I would like to delete the multiple monitor feature completely since I will never be using anything but the laptop monitor now. Any help would be appreciated.

The problem is that when I switch the power supply on and press the power button on the front, the power LED lights for less than a second and the immediatly shuts off. Pressing the power button again produces no result. If I switch off and then on the power supply again however, and then press the power button on the front again, the LED turns on for less than a second and then immediatly off, just like the first time.
i say some LED lights that would react to the music you play when connected to the computer threw a usb cable. This was at Circuit City. I was wondering, is it posible to customise the driver so that the lights will flash whenever i shot in Counter Strike. That would be awesome.so anyone that knows about drivers and anything else thats relevant, pls help me. I want to do this during christmass brake.
Whenever I try to put my computer Dell Dimension 9000 desktop in stand by mode manually, it prepares for standby, then goes in stand by (black sreen, monitor contol lights go off for a second or two, and then it turnes on again and shows the " to begin, click your user name" screen again.
I just purchased a 2.5 hard drive enclosure for my Fujitsu drive that I removed from my broken laptop.I assembled the enclosure, connected it to the USB port on my pc, lights come on on the enclosure, I hear it spinning BUT my PC won't recognize it.Why? FYI, the Fujitsu drive from my laptop has Vista OS on it and my PC is an XP OS.
