View 1 RepliesSo, a friend is looking to get a new laptop with a 17" display. I found this Toshiba Satellite model at BestBuy for $699: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....=1212192350169It comes with Windows Vista pre-installed. I went to the Toshiba support page for the laptop and found only ONE Windows XP driver and that's for the built-in modem. The bulk of the drivers are for Vista. What would the chances of actually getting Windows XP to fully function on this laptop? Where would I go for XP drivers for things like the ATI video adapter, the network adapters (Wi-Fi and Ethernet), and so on?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a older Imb laptop modle T23 computer and when I shut it down rather then using standby it takes several times trying to get it to come back on. I press the little round on/off button and the (z) button lights up and I hear the fan turn on and all of a sudden a series of beeps, and the screen won't turn on. The beeping is like 8 beeps, then stops but still nothing come up on the screen. Completely black! So i turn off the computer again, and turn on same thing. I continue doing this like 30+ times sometimes more sometimes less, then finally the beeps dont start and the screen is working. So needless to say its still working in the mean time, but its just such a pain if I shut it down. . For now I am just going to continue using standby but when I have updates sometimes i need to shut down.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI was using my Compaq laptop last night (unfortunately I'm at work and do not have any further identifying info on it...other than it's probably at least 3, closer to 4, years old) and it was fine. I walked away from it for less than 5 mins, when I came back, it was off - no lights, no display, no noise, no nothing. and it would not turn back on. I turned it on again this morning, which it did fine, but after less than 2 minutes (if even that long), it said it was 'preparing to stand by', but never actually reached that stage, instead it just shut off again. Throughout this time it was plugged in. I left it plugged in, but then removed the battery (thinking it might be dead), but still, nothing. Now it won't even turn on - battery or not, plugged in or not.

View 4 Replies View Relatedwhen I press the power button (and I've tried turning it on off of the battery, battery and outlet power, and just the outlet power), the light turns on, I can hear the regular whirring, but then the power button starts to flash, as if it's in standby mode? I've tried pushing a few buttons on the keyboard, tried pushing the escape button, tried pressing even the wireless LAN button that's at the top... nothing. When I press the power button, nothing happens unless I hold it down for five seconds, then it just turns itself off again.

View 1 Replies View RelatedEvery time i turn on the computer, it restarts by itself before i can log on. then it will just endlessly restart itself until i shut it off. occasionally i can hold esc and it will log on properly, but it takes a really long time and doesnt always work. I am using a Windows XP laptop, and i did a virus scan and deleted all the dangerous files. I even unchecked "automatically restart" for a system failure and nothing happened.
View 1 Replies View RelatedEverytime I turn on my laptop the wireless network connection thingy in the lower right hand tool bar has a big red x on it. Yet, I can connect to the internet. Would anyone know why this does this? I have tried going to "Wireless Network Connection Properties" and then "Wireless Networks" and actually removed my router name. I then reboot my computer, am asked for network key, enter it, and when I restart my computer the same thing happens. This is not a real "problem" but it certainly is very annoying.

However from device manager they show up as working properly, which they are not as I cannot connect to the internet and there is a red X on all three icons in the system tray. I downloaded some windows updates but not all of them installed. When I go to Turn Off Computer, the "Turn Off" button has changed, indicating that when I hit it, it will install the updates. There's also a field I can click which will Turn Off without installing the updates. When I click the Turn Off buttion, it attempts to install two updates. It doesn't appear to be successful. Every time I Turn Off Computer it apparently tries to install the same two updates. I can reboot and do this over and over and they don't "take".There's nothing in Event Viewer to indicate what's going on. I couldn't find any installation logs though I'm not sure where to look.
View 1 Replies View RelatedOkay so I usually leave my computer on all the time. I went to bed and when I got up it was off and couldn't get it to turn on. The higher watts didn't doanything. I am lost without my computer can anyone help? I have Win XP..Could it be the fan? Even though the fan worked when i plugged in first PS...Second didnt do anything. Could it be something to do with motherboard?
