Whenever I try to put my computer Dell Dimension 9000 desktop in stand by mode manually, it prepares for standby, then goes in stand by (black sreen, monitor contol lights go off for a second or two, and then it turnes on again and shows the " to begin, click your user name" screen again.
View 5 RepliesIt all started when I noticed that my bootup time was about 30 seconds slower than it should be. For 30 seconds after the BIOS post screen, my monitor is black and the computer sits there HD LED going full bore. Then it goes to the normal WINXP bootup screens, blah blah blah, then I'm in windows. I ran a safe mode startup and I noticed that the bootup would hang for 30 seconds on windows/system32/config/system. What the heck is that file? I'm certain this can't be normal behavior. What's the problem? The size of my system32/config folder is now 70.3 MB.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI am rebuilding a Dell 4600i with 2.8g CPU, 2g ram. 80g hd,dvd drive. After having a time getting the system to boot with windows XP home edition, I now have 2 other issues. one it shows only 16 bit operation, why not 32 or 64bit? Second a short time after booting up the the monitor goes blank, cannot do anything after that. I had to format the HD and reload windows XP to get the computer to do anything, then it did it again.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI Installed Windows XP profesional 64 SP1,fresh Install, all was going Ok , the partitions were done ok , I made the boot floopy disc cuz it is a new System and formated the hard drive I installed drivers for the system ,but i noticed I was no getting sound since the staRT I though i was goin to be able to fix it forward as I was going trough the drivers etc. I opened Device Manager and saw I ther was a device with trouble,was the "MicrosoftUAA drivers for High Definition Audio" ok so I update drivers and Instal drivers from Motherboard disc . XP profesional was working OK Installed with no troubles , so when i read the "REBOOT for Changes so drivers came in efect ,OK so turn off the computerthen I decide install the new video card Ati Radeon PCi -E in that instance

Now when I boot up the green power light consistently flashes while the hard drive light just stays on; nothing shows up on the monitor either. I need major help....!!! The computer is about 6 years old...no viruses last time I ran scan which was recently.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI recently re-installed win. xp on the dell insperation 2400. Everything went find except the resoluton wouldn't change from the 480 x ...so I tried to set up my dial up but I needed a higher resolution. I did finally find a way to get that although it was very poor quality and I figured that I'd be able to down load the proper driver once on line, which I did do, although I'm not sure it was the right one, as dell doesn't seem to have anything for that model of pc. Anyway I also downloaded the Microsoft updates to get back to current for the secruity stuff. When that was done it required restart, which I did. When it restarted the monitor remained blank after the win. xp part was done loading. I know its on and that my pc is sitting there running, but I can't see anything. I restarted using F5 and tried; last known good configuration, vga mode, and safe mode. In the 1st 2 no monitor. In safemode the whole screen filled with a dos like line repeated over again to fill the whole screen, then a message came on that said, "stop!!! fatal error and I can't remember what else. Can you help? I guess I should mention that I don't have the right driver disk that came with the pc.

View 7 Replies View Relatedi have this desktop that im tring to fix. its a demension 3100 and the service tag is JY9XB91 and it has factory memory that is 512 ddr2 sddr 533mhz and im tring to install 2gig dd2 800mhz. but the main problem is when i turn it on the post load doesn't load up and the monitor doesn't kick on, it stays in standbye mode. then it gives me a series of beeps and the power button lights up green then the #1 and #3 lights up also. according to dell webside it means memory problems. ive tried many ways to install the memory and nothin is working..can anyone help me Please
View 11 Replies View RelatedThe problem is that when I switch the power supply on and press the power button on the front, the power LED lights for less than a second and the immediatly shuts off. Pressing the power button again produces no result. If I switch off and then on the power supply again however, and then press the power button on the front again, the LED turns on for less than a second and then immediatly off, just like the first time.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI was using my Compaq laptop last night (unfortunately I'm at work and do not have any further identifying info on it...other than it's probably at least 3, closer to 4, years old) and it was fine. I walked away from it for less than 5 mins, when I came back, it was off - no lights, no display, no noise, no nothing. and it would not turn back on. I turned it on again this morning, which it did fine, but after less than 2 minutes (if even that long), it said it was 'preparing to stand by', but never actually reached that stage, instead it just shut off again. Throughout this time it was plugged in. I left it plugged in, but then removed the battery (thinking it might be dead), but still, nothing. Now it won't even turn on - battery or not, plugged in or not.

Now we have a new tower to go with exisiting 24" monitor. My problem is I can not get a old standard VGA monitor to work with the old system listed above. When I plug in the the VGA monitor plug in the VGA outlet in the old computer I get no signal to the monitor. What do I need to do with drivers or other wise to get the old computer back to being able to be used with the old VGA monitor?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI replace my old LCD monitors (Dell 1905s) with new acer P223w's. I have a dual monitor display.I power off both monitors with one switch that cuts off the power. When I do this however, Windows makes the sound like a device has been disconnected and it messes up my monitor settings. This is very annoying and it didn't happen with my other monitors nor does it happen on my other Windows XP system with different monitors. It's like Windows is trying to be "smart" by thinking the monitor is gone. I do not want Windows to care if the monitor is powered off.

View 7 Replies View RelatedAfter reformatting the HD and reinstalling XP, I find that my Inspiron laptop doesn't have Stand By or Hibernate options. When I close the lid and re-open it it's nonresponsive on a black screen until I turn it off with the Power button. I thought HAL.DLL was missing -- I got that error message once -- but it's there in SYSTEM32 and the bootlog shows it installed as a driver. Is there another driver missing? (I can't decipher all those short file names.) Might it be the wrong HAL, a generic one supplied with the XP Re-Install CD? How do I find out?

The screen does, so is there a way to make alterations in the Bios to allow the discs to shut down as well.I used to Hibernate, but since changing to always on Broadband connection it will never restart with the pointer being able to move. So I have to close it down completely when I no longer want to use it.
