Half Of The Monitor Got Black While Writing On Website?
Oct 14, 2007
I was writing on my website when half the monitor goes black. Then I reboot and it says it detects something in the floppy drive though there was nothing in it. Now when I boot up the green power light consistently flashes while the hard drive light just stays on; nothing shows up on the monitor either. I need major help....!!! The computer is about 6 years old...no viruses last time I ran scan which was recently.
It all started when I noticed that my bootup time was about 30 seconds slower than it should be. For 30 seconds after the BIOS post screen, my monitor is black and the computer sits there HD LED going full bore. Then it goes to the normal WINXP bootup screens, blah blah blah, then I'm in windows. I ran a safe mode startup and I noticed that the bootup would hang for 30 seconds on windows/system32/config/system. What the heck is that file? I'm certain this can't be normal behavior. What's the problem? The size of my system32/config folder is now 70.3 MB.
I am rebuilding a Dell 4600i with 2.8g CPU, 2g ram. 80g hd,dvd drive. After having a time getting the system to boot with windows XP home edition, I now have 2 other issues. one it shows only 16 bit operation, why not 32 or 64bit? Second a short time after booting up the the monitor goes blank, cannot do anything after that. I had to format the HD and reload windows XP to get the computer to do anything, then it did it again.
I Installed Windows XP profesional 64 SP1,fresh Install, all was going Ok , the partitions were done ok , I made the boot floopy disc cuz it is a new System and formated the hard drive I installed drivers for the system ,but i noticed I was no getting sound since the staRT I though i was goin to be able to fix it forward as I was going trough the drivers etc. I opened Device Manager and saw I ther was a device with trouble, was the "MicrosoftUAA drivers for High Definition Audio" ok so I update drivers and Instal drivers from Motherboard disc . XP profesional was working OK Installed with no troubles , so when i read the "REBOOT for Changes so drivers came in efect ,OK so turn off the computerthen I decide install the new video card Ati Radeon PCi -E in that instance
Whenever I try to put my computer Dell Dimension 9000 desktop in stand by mode manually, it prepares for standby, then goes in stand by (black sreen, monitor contol lights go off for a second or two, and then it turnes on again and shows the " to begin, click your user name" screen again.
I've installed the two software disks for my new LG monitor. However, I can't get the resolution to be full screen. I have a large black band at the top of my screen.
I recently re-installed win. xp on the dell insperation 2400. Everything went find except the resoluton wouldn't change from the 480 x ...so I tried to set up my dial up but I needed a higher resolution. I did finally find a way to get that although it was very poor quality and I figured that I'd be able to down load the proper driver once on line, which I did do, although I'm not sure it was the right one, as dell doesn't seem to have anything for that model of pc. Anyway I also downloaded the Microsoft updates to get back to current for the secruity stuff. When that was done it required restart, which I did. When it restarted the monitor remained blank after the win. xp part was done loading. I know its on and that my pc is sitting there running, but I can't see anything. I restarted using F5 and tried; last known good configuration, vga mode, and safe mode. In the 1st 2 no monitor. In safemode the whole screen filled with a dos like line repeated over again to fill the whole screen, then a message came on that said, "stop!!! fatal error and I can't remember what else. Can you help? I guess I should mention that I don't have the right driver disk that came with the pc.

I just moved in to college and set up my computer, but due to limited space didn't bring my second monitor. Now my aim, and ventrilo windows are still on the other monitor but no way to get them to the current monitor for use.
When Windows adds a new monitor using the standard driver, can it detect the aspect ratio? When I hooked up mine, all the resolution choice were for 4:3 monitors. There were no widescreen options. It should choose the monitor's native resolution on its own if the monitor is an LCD.
I have a old Dell computer which I brought a 24" Dell HD monitor. I upgraded it with a new graphics card which has both VGA and HD capability hook-ups. Now we have a new tower to go with exisiting 24" monitor. My problem is I can not get a old standard VGA monitor to work with the old system listed above. When I plug in the the VGA monitor plug in the VGA outlet in the old computer I get no signal to the monitor. What do I need to do with drivers or other wise to get the old computer back to being able to be used with the old VGA monitor?

I'd like to send a command to a program installed on my XP machine. I already have the command: /cursor='no'but I'm not sure how to structure the complete command line to the appropriate program. Could someone give me an example of a command directed to a program installed in C:Program files?
I use COMPUPIC imaging software which allows me to create a slide show where I can change the order of the individual JPEG files in a directory. I can then copy these files into a new directory from within COMPUPIC and it retains the new ordering, not the original alphabetic ordering. So far everything is great. However when I then try to copy these files to a CD they are reordered alphabeticaly. I'm using Windows XP and Roxia CD Creator 5 Basic. This is a problem since I would like to use the reordered file on my CD player to create a slide show in the order I specified in my Compupic imaging software.
I just recently ran in to a problem with the CD wizardof Windows XP.When I try to burn data on to a CD it keeps telling me to insert a disk into the drive, even though there is a disk in the machine.I have used other programs such as Musicmatch and HP's program called ecordnow and all work just fine. I have tried to uninstall and then reinstall the drive but to no avail.
IcrediMail XE, it's half way installed and stuck there, hasn't moved in the last hour, so I cannot uninstall it at Ad or Remove. How I got it in the first place I do not remember,

my PC has 2 disks it was setup with a boot manager on disk1 disk1 has linux. disk2 is my Win XP disk. my question is can I safely write a boot block on disk2 and not loose data like the XP CD warns you about? I'm not using Linux on disk1 anymore, but I need the boot manager to boot XP on disk2. so the question is how safe is it to use the XP CD and fix/create a boot record on disk2? Are there any issues? I really don't want to restore because of the software is already working..

For the past few weeks, windows has been only recognizing half (256mb) of my total 512mb of ram. Something that makes this problem even more peculiar is that third party tools such as cpu-z and speedfan see the full 512mb, but the system properties and dxdiag both say 256mb. The bios also says 512mb, dual channel mode. I can also make any information about this system that anyone needs to help me with this.
I'm not sure what my father did, but his desktop is now split in half. The left half shows the folders in the My documents folder and the right half of the desktop is the old desktop picture with the wallpaper, and all the icons. I don't know how to fix this.
I have Win XP 2.My son was fooling around with the computer and now half the icons have changed appearance. Half are normal picture icons and half are generic white window icons. Also all the picture type icons in the start menu have changed to generic white windows icons. How can I restore or refresh to bring back my icons.
So installed WinXP Pro on my 3 month old HP pavillion personal computer and I am having an issue with the ram Apparently windows is only recognizing half of it.Here are some of the most pertinent details: AMD Turion64 ML-34,Radeon Xpress 200m w/128 MB on the video card. There are 512 MB installed DDR, Dual Channel. The bios is recognizing all 512 of the ram, but windows properties only shows 256.dxdiag also shows 256, but CPU-Z shows all 512.Does anyone have any idea whats going on? Has anyone actually experienced this phenomenon? I don't know if this is just a reading error, causing no performance difference, but I think I can feel the difference, but since its pretty new and the operating system has only been installed for about 2 weeks, I haven't gotten to get a good feel of what its supposed to be. I have also noticed in the past couple days that it takes a very long time to boot.
I have been trying to play a DVD for the last hour and a half. VLC Media player plays the dvd, but only half of the audio is played. If anyone knows how to fix that, then that would be great. Also if I try using Media Player Classic then it plays choppy/slowed down video and audio.I also tried AVS Media player, but that would start to load the video and stop at 3% and never get any farther.I am not sure how that program works, but it seemed like it was trying to rip the dvd and then play it or something.
