I'm not sure what my father did, but his desktop is now split in half. The left half shows the folders in the My documents folder and the right half of the desktop is the old desktop picture with the wallpaper, and all the icons. I don't know how to fix this.
I have Windows XP.While I was working, an invasive "Utility" window popped up which I couldn't get rid of. Now, after restarting, my desktop showed one of my filed pictures 8-ply. I replaced it by my regular desktop picture, which, however, is now 4-ply.How can I get it back so it's just one single picture?
hey im new to this place and i have a major problem. all of a sudden when i click to download something, itll show a hour glass for like a split second and then nothing. it wont download it. this happens in internet explorer 7 beta. everyone else tells me to download the new version. well i cant. some other people tell me to just download firefox.well i cant do that either . and one told me to look at my internet options. but when i click to get into it it just flashes a white picture and then closes immediately.
In Unix there is a "dd" command that will enable the user to split up a large text file into smaller segments. I am on XP and have a 600Mb text file and I want to chop it up in two pieces so I can read it more easily. How can I do this, preferrably from a command line?
Does anyone know of reasonably priced 20 inch monitor that allows one to split screens in half or quaters or view multiple applications in an elegant fashion? I am a web developer working off either an IBM thinkpad or Sony laptop Windows Xp who also uses sql server, dreamweaver and photoshop for webdevelopment purposes.
Problem: Now with the PC running and precious data growing ever larger my raid0 is vunerable to failure. Therefore I wanted to remove the old drive and insert a new drive to back up the raid0. When I removed the old drive windows wouldn't boot. After reinserting the old drive I have discovered the boot.ini file is on this other drive along with a few windows hidden files. I didn't realise this would happen -noob- and therefore I'm not sure if I can just repartition the small number of files and move them onto the main Raid0 drives. Would this mess up windows booting? The reason I want to move these files is it's an old drive and if it dies windows won't boot.
I have thought that my Internet explorer was messed up.So I downloaded Mozilla, I still think that it is messed up but I have another problem now, The thing that is messed up with internet explorer is when you go to a website like utube.com or street fire.net to watch a video on internet explorer it would show the video for a split second and then it would disappear, but when you went on to mozilla and went to any website with any video it was fine. so i thought it was a problem with internet explorer, then the problem proceeded to windows media player, the computer would rather free or restart itself with any program that played videos, so you would think the problem is with the video card, well that what i was thinking because i have been having this problem all night with windows movie maker trying to make a video it would restart itself, well i finally got so fedup that i sent the error report after it recovered from a serious error and it popped up a microsoft help page saying it was a video driver error, so i updated it restarted same problem so i went to display advanced did what it said same problem but the send error report popped up a different error this time said it was from a device driver but it didnt know which one and it wanted me to test direct draw, where it shows u black and white triangles and such and asks you if you saw them, well on the third part of the test where it shows a white ball bouncing full screen it showed that then flashed the blue screen with tons of words and restarted and same thing when you try it again, so my question is, what could this be? I just want to fix all of my video problems. I went into my device manager and it says that the device is currently functioning properly. And if you are going to respond please explain well because I am not very computer savvy I just know a little.
if you have a really big hard drive like 200 or more, don't you need to split it in half, so windows think it's actully two hard drive, but really it's one. just so windows can read the hard drive.how much is the limit till you have to spilt it in half?

IcrediMail XE, it's half way installed and stuck there, hasn't moved in the last hour, so I cannot uninstall it at Ad or Remove. How I got it in the first place I do not remember,
After my computer has been on a while my screen goes up half of the page, I can't hardly see my task bar when it does that, I checked to see if the fan was running ,which it is,I have no clue how to fix it this make 2 monitors that has done this, the first 1 had lines running all along the screen about half way down the screen.
For the past few weeks, windows has been only recognizing half (256mb) of my total 512mb of ram. Something that makes this problem even more peculiar is that third party tools such as cpu-z and speedfan see the full 512mb, but the system properties and dxdiag both say 256mb. The bios also says 512mb, dual channel mode. I can also make any information about this system that anyone needs to help me with this.
I have Win XP 2.My son was fooling around with the computer and now half the icons have changed appearance. Half are normal picture icons and half are generic white window icons. Also all the picture type icons in the start menu have changed to generic white windows icons. How can I restore or refresh to bring back my icons.
So installed WinXP Pro on my 3 month old HP pavillion personal computer and I am having an issue with the ram Apparently windows is only recognizing half of it.Here are some of the most pertinent details: AMD Turion64 ML-34,Radeon Xpress 200m w/128 MB on the video card. There are 512 MB installed DDR, Dual Channel. The bios is recognizing all 512 of the ram, but windows properties only shows 256.dxdiag also shows 256, but CPU-Z shows all 512.Does anyone have any idea whats going on? Has anyone actually experienced this phenomenon? I don't know if this is just a reading error, causing no performance difference, but I think I can feel the difference, but since its pretty new and the operating system has only been installed for about 2 weeks, I haven't gotten to get a good feel of what its supposed to be. I have also noticed in the past couple days that it takes a very long time to boot.
I have been trying to play a DVD for the last hour and a half. VLC Media player plays the dvd, but only half of the audio is played. If anyone knows how to fix that, then that would be great. Also if I try using Media Player Classic then it plays choppy/slowed down video and audio.I also tried AVS Media player, but that would start to load the video and stop at 3% and never get any farther.I am not sure how that program works, but it seemed like it was trying to rip the dvd and then play it or something.
When install SP3 for some reason a message pops up that says access is denied and undoes every thing back to its previous state. I tried the auto-update option I even downloaded the ISO copy on MS site and it didn't work out.
I am trying to install two different programs, but there's a problem. I am encountering windows or panels (or whatever you call them) that are cut off on the right side. I can only see half the window, so I cannot click the "next" buttons to continue the installation. It's like someone took an x-acto knife and sliced off the right half of the window. I also have this problem with my HP Printer Toolbox. I thought that maybe I had uninstalled a critical system font, but all the system fonts are there, except for Modern MS Sans Serif, which I can't find anywhere.
Half life is unplayable on XP without tweaking.1. How to recover from incompatible driversBefore you install new drivers set a system restore point. Start>All programs>Accessories>system tools>system restore After your new drivers don't work reset your computer. Press F8 repeatedly as soon as the BIOS screen disappears, and before the Windows XP screen appears. Select safe mode. Use system restore again to undo your mess.2.Video Drivers The NVidia drivers that come with XP do not allow you to run Half Life in OpenGL.Update to the newest drivers.Despite the fact that they are not official drivers, 22.50 was the only set which worked 3. I am using XP OS, I have AVG 7.5 antivirus installed on my system. I am getting following alert after every half an hour. I have clicked on 'hill' the file but still I am getting same alert box after half hour please guide me on this.
My friends XP crashed so I leant them my recovery disc (my old pc had XP this one has vista), when the xp recovery disc didn't work for them, they used my Acer Vista one which has half or more loaded vista and stalled probably because the lap top is to old to handle it. Anyway there is a blue Acer loading screen doing nothing and the vista programs run behind it which makes it difficult to see what you're doing. They brought it around to me as I can use this pc to see what I'm doing and try and fix there's more or less by feel, if that makes sense. They tried reinstalling my xp disc but vista seems to super seed it and it wont take, which doesn't surprise me.
I need this computer working coz its for work and i dont wanna have to pay for maintenance for it if I can fix it myself.my computer just keeps reseting sometimes it takes upto half an hour sometimes it can take 5 minutes. If i leave it on a program or a web page it will do it aswell if when im not using it. it cant be a hardware problem because theres been nothing put in it for a few months.
I've recently installed windows xp over again and when I did it doesn't read the full hdd. so now I have 124 of the full 232.I'm on SP 2 right now and I believe I'm fully updated. I've already attempted partition magic and one I think it was called gnome drive. Both want me to purchase the products so I'm trying to find the free way out.
Dell inspiron 1300. The laptop goes fuzzy at the bottom half of the screen when the computer starts. It goes clear again straight when the booting sequence starts. (sometimes it boots fine). I am also getting random BSOD's now. Memory_managemet / fault to non paged area / usb etc. I was thinking mabe someting in the bios/motherboard is corrupt. An update to the bios didnt fix it.
i have an Acer aspire 5630 laptop, running windows xp media edtion. It has a 110 GB hard drive which Acer partitioned in 3 parts. The first one im not concerned about its almost 5 GB and called PQ service (EISA configuration. the other 2 are just over 53 GB one has my xp the other was formatted to NTFS, I found I could delete the partition and then from command from extend the main partition typing diskpart, list volume, select the volume i want to extend by typing select volume 1 or whatever then type extend with the amount or if i leave it blank it should extend the partition to the full drive. but when i type extend I get the following message. Diskpart failed to extend the volume. please make sure the volume is valid for extending. And i desperately need the extra space.
In the start menu, the left half is completely devoid of any programs, except for the "All Programs" list. The right half works great. I've gone through the "Customize Start Menu" options and every thing is set up properly.
I was writing on my website when half the monitor goes black. Then I reboot and it says it detects something in the floppy drive though there was nothing in it. Now when I boot up the green power light consistently flashes while the hard drive light just stays on; nothing shows up on the monitor either. I need major help....!!! The computer is about 6 years old...no viruses last time I ran scan which was recently.
