View 14 Replies View RelatedComputer has suddenly gotten real slow shutting down and upon start up. I can not readily see any changes. Ran Adaware and Spybot before running HiJack This. All were good. Need some new eyes on this one...Only changes to computer recently were the addition of the new BattleField 2 demo, which really seemed to slow the system down.

View 14 Replies View RelatedI'm having trouble with pages not loading when I'm on the internet using Netzero and Internet Explorer. It seems to be secure pages mostly (every time I want to order something online, or when I go to a company's application center and try to apply for a job.I am on my second printer (HP 3740). Granted, it's not top of the line, but I just bought it because my old one was broken (I thought) and now it is starting to have the same problems as the last one, and the problems started about a week after I bought it. It started with the printing getting faded, like the cartridge was running out of ink, then it went through the motions of printing but no ink was on the paper. Next it will stop moving, even though the power light comes on.
View 2 Replies View RelatedLately my computer has been extremely slow, not just internet slow but onboard slow. For example, if I click on an application from the desktop it will sit there for 10-20 seconds before anything happens. Occasionally I'll click multiple times on something and nothing will happen then 30 seconds later it will open multiple instances of things. This delay has been happening with just about anything I click on, acting like the computer's busy doing something else when nothing else should be going on. I've looked in the task manager and the applications column will be blank

View 7 Replies View RelatedFor few weeks internet hasn't been working properly. It has slow upload rate and webpages and games are unplayable because of the lag. How can I figure out what is causing this? I called the Rogers HiSpeed and they reset my connection but it didn't help the problem. I have Rogers HiSpeed and WindowsXP Media Center.
View 6 Replies View RelatedFirstly it's veeeeeery slow booting up, when on the xp loading screen the scrolling blue bars will stop, sometimes for over a minute. When it eventually gets to the user log on screen it again takes forever to load. Secondly. I removed a couple of progs. msn and google search bars and motorolla phone tools. On restart it just kept rebooting after getting a BSOD. I started in safe mode and took the check out of automatically restart in startup and recovery, and it now seems to be ok. Thirdly. my keyboard isn't working, I am having to use the onscreen keyboard which is a pain.
View 8 Replies View Relatedmy girlfriend had been adamant about not updating her computer because she claimed that is a way to get viruses.I scoffed and updated it anyway.I downloaded almost 2 years worth of updates over a two week period, the last update was the XP Service Pack 2 update. The very first time the computer was started after her SP2 update it loaded extremely slowly. The mouse doesn't work correctly (I can only right click) and most programs are inaccessible. I tried to System Restore (which is no easy task without a mouse) but it fails each time. I ran a virus scan with AVG but had no luck finding any infections.
View 7 Replies View RelatedHell. Can anybody tell me what might be causing my computer to run slowly? I have Windows XP and a broadband connection to the Internet.
View 9 Replies View RelatedThis is a Windows XP sp3 domain connected PC with one specific user, which all of a sudden takes 2.5mins to log in to the domain, Where it used to take just about 20 seconds. Other users on the same PC is all OK 20sec login This is not the usual where it hangs at "applying computer settings" or "personal settings" it's after those two has passed that it just hangs for a couple of minutes.
All i get is the mouse pointer (not even hourglass) and the desktop wallpaper for about 2-3 minutes. When it finally logs in everything is as quick as you would expect that spec of PC to be (1,6ghz Sempron, 1gb RAM, 40gb IDE-100 HDD)
computer now takes half an hour to an hour to reboot. in doing so, it tells me that it does not do the startup and services. it is so slow it is unbelievable. sometimes even being so slow that the words we type take a few seconds to show up on the screen. after working for a time it will invariably hang. or it will shut itself down. in either case we have to reboot, it takes that half an hour to an hour again

View 6 Replies View RelatedI am running PC, Windows XP and recently had several viruses deleted from system. Problem started when running Internet Explorer and would receive an error tab every time stating IE must close. The data error was a mcsvrt.dll problem. Now when I start the computer it takes 10-15 minutes to boot completely and accessing Mozilla or any apps after about 3-4 mins takes ages. It runs so slow, something has it almost completely bogged down. I run spybot but after a while it freezes up

View 9 Replies View RelatedWhy is it taking my computer 3 minutes to boot to the desktop? As you can see from my signature below, I don't have exactly a slow poke machine. All drives are defragged weekly, the BIOS is set to boot off of the hard disk, and I only have the one OS installed. This thing use to boot to the desktop in 20 seconds.
View 12 Replies View RelatedOut of the blue, my computer started getting slow. Sometimes its ok, and then it will be on the verge of freezing.. then get itself back together. I realized, when I start up, it takes FOREVER. It also shows this screen I have never seen before. Its completely black, and has a line of grey rectangles from side to side. and slowly loads across. When it is finally finished 10-15 minutes it will slowly start up in regular fashion

View 5 Replies View RelatedMy problem is that my internet connection is pretty slow on my main computer. It's an older (6 years) Dell. I'm still running XP and IE7. I have Comcast cable and it's connected through a Linksys modem. The problem is that the internet response on this machine is pretty slow. I have a laptop that I use and that is much better. I would figure that my "main" computer would be faster since it has a hard connection, not wireless. I know that isn't much info so ask away and I do what I can to provide all the info needed.

View 2 Replies View RelatedIn the last couple of weeks my computer has started acting strange. I have ran my antivirus, adaware, spybot, and a few other programs to try and find out what might be causing the problems, which are:
1: Mouse pointer moves around the screen, from time to time, on it's own.
2: I was just sitting here watching TV, not touching, any part of my computer, mouse, keyboard etc, and my computer booted it's self.
3: I have also noticed that from time to time, if I go away from my computer, and leave a web page on my screen, so I can go back, to what I was reading, when I come back to my computer, there's no web page at all on my screen, just the background.
recently my computer has been doing some very strange things. occasionally i get a box popping up saying that something has been terminated unexpectedly and the computer will shutdown in 60 seconds, but this is quite rare.
the main problems are having unusual crashes and moments where the computer acts like the monitor cable has been unplugged and then plugged back in. also i am having internet connection issues much more frequently than before, and sometimes my computer just slows down to snail pace or the mouse hangs every few seconds for no apparent reason.
i have searched through my task manager processes and cannot find anything there out of the ordinary. i have tried to run Ad-aware and Spybot but the programs both crash when they try to update, the same thing also happens with AVG antivirus, the computer refuses to let these apps access the internet connection. I do have Sygate Personal Firewall installed and usually it would run at startup but now there is no longer the icon in the system tray, and when I try to boot it up from start menu it too refuses to load. however the process 'Smc.exe' which I understand is part of Sygate Personal Firewall is still running.
As for system specs, I have:
AMD Athlon 64 3200+
1 gig ram
Geforce 6600 GT AGP
Soundblaster Audigy 2
ASUS motherboard
Windows XP Professional SP1
PS- I did have an idea why the spyware/adware/AV programs won't update, since recently my Sygate Personal Firewall seemed to forget which programs were 'allowed' or 'blocked', and I haven't run any of these programs since then. Now that I cannot access SPF to tell it to allow these programs that could be the reason they won't update. I am still at a loss as to why SPF/AVG do not load up on startup as they used to however.
