I have a toshiba terca m2 with a gig of ram, 60 gig hard drive and mirosoft pro.notebook and I just had the systems board replaced and it is not acting right now after the new systems board. This computer also has have cooling problems so I had a different fan put in so the computer would not overheat again. so once agian I'm at a lost at what I should not to fix this probelm.
View 3 RepliesI have a compaq perario. Nothing fancy just something to mess around on at home. 2 GHz, 352 MB, AMD athlon XP 2400+, with windows XP. I originally had 112 MB on the system but with the upgraded video card of course it needed some more so I purchased a 258. They are both PC 2100 cards. I have had a computer at this area of my house for around 5 years. I have programs for my nextel business on here and dont have any stupid stuff like p2p software. I have did many system checks, spyware checks, virus checks and nothing. Something is making my computer run hot because if the case is open and the fan is blowing in it like it is right now I can be on all day long. Take the fan off and sometimes it wont make it past start up. The little fan inside is working but not good enough I suppose. What could be causing my machine to get so hot as to shut down CONSTANTLY?
View 10 Replies View RelatedSo I have winXP PC, only a year or so old, and now it won't boot all the way. Some think it's overheating, temp says 83, it's a AMD Athlon XP. The first screen comes up saying it found all 4 hard drives and lists them in order, then the next screen says Scan Devices Serial_CH0 Master : No Device, Serial_CH1 Master : No Device it then flashes to another screen very quickly where at the bottom it says Verifying DMI Pool Data and then it starts all over again. I can make arrangements to get the thing cooling off better if that's the issue, but my concern is, what do I do now to get it to boot at all?

My son Lloyd has a Toshiba Laptop which is just over a year old - typical eh as we can now no longer take it back on guarantee. It keeps turning itself off completely - I assume because of overheating???. This has started to happen quite frequently now, five times yesterday evening and also a few times this morning. He is getting quite frustrated at this and I have no idea what we can do to investigate it. Can anyone here offer advice as to what I could do to determine what the issue is and what may be causing it. View 7 Replies View RelatedI went out of town for 2 weeks, came home and my pc is acting really strange. I've been getting tons of pop-ups, to the point my computer freezes and i must restart. Not only that but it randomly reboots itself even when not being used. Also, when i go to delete files now, the file does NOT go into the recycle bin. I looked at the settings and there is no check mark next to the "do not move files into recycle bin". My BF said he had been downloading things so I figured maybe its a virus or something. I ran Nortons... nothing. Ran AVG... nothing. A friend told me it sounded like spyware so he told me to run Adaware & Spybot. Did that, found a ton of stuff. But when i retarted the pc, it wanted to start in "safe mode". I noticed that most of these pop ups are (search miracle ??) Found info that its a trojan, but i dont know. . I dont know what to do, totally computer illiterate.

I am sure that the bios have been affected and attempts to boot from either a floppy or cd get ignored in the loading process and the bios canot find the module to activate the periferal devices ie: keyboard, mouse, usb ports. I have norton anti viru when I turn my computer on it takes forever to start up.I always have to get repair for my Internet connection to work right. The freezing occurs randomly sometimes it occurs just after startup while other times i can play a game for a few hours before it freezes. Ive been in a repair shop a couple times and they havent solved the problem despite replacing the mother board and power supply. They also reformated the computer and still get the freezing problem. However they are giving me their old PC, which I will be using to install Linux on and use as a learning tool for myself.The problem comes in that they would like to use their XP Home license on the new machine. The old machine is a Compaq, and Compaq only supplies rescue disks.not an actual XP disk.Is there anyway for me to get their legally owned copy of XP onto their new machine without them having a store bought XP Home disk? View 14 Replies View RelatedI encrypted a folder with Windows encryption. This was on an old computer and it is now dead; motherboard is fried, hard drives are still fine though. I have a new computer now, with much newer, but similar hardware.I have the old hard drives in my new machine, so I can access all my old files, but I cant get into the encrypted folder, obviously. There isn't anything wrong with the Windows install, it's still there and I'd be able to boot into I if it was on the old hardware, but I'm not.What I want to do is boot into my old XP install on my new hardware to recover these encrypted files. I've tried booting already, but it either bluescreens and restarts before starting windows, or it just restarts without a bluescreen. The hardware is just too different.
I was wondering if theres any way I can sweep my computer after someone else has used it?, does anyone else here do this? , I'm not worried about the other user intentionally installing nasties on my computer, It's just that a lot of other users are very blase about what they download, what sites they visit and what emails they open. I'm thinking of doing a system restore, would this get rid of any nasties or am I just being paranoid?
