View 7 RepliesIve recently been putting my comp in standby every night instead of shut down, but last night I shut it down and now it wont come back!! It stays at the Windows XP loading screen. I am only able to load it into "safe mode w/ networking." The "Last settings that worked" option does not work. I have tried to restore it 3 times to 3 different dates, and all give me the same result---stuck at windows XP screen in normal mode, or loading in safe mode.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently stripped the cord running from my USB mouse to the computer on accident, so until i get a new mouse I use the keyboard only for now. I was attempting to switch users by hitting the windows key and going to switch users, when I accidentally hit Hibernate. The computer went into hibernation and NOTHING I do will bring it out, the fan is still running, the monitor shuts itself off and will not show anything when I reboot the computer or try anything else. Ive tried many ways to restart the computer and bring it back out but I've had no luck, as of right now I'm using my parents computer until I can get my own running again.
View 14 Replies View RelatedDaughter has Windows XP and her friend has a user ID on the computer. She said she was trying to fix the Administrator account so that when she saved files they wouldn't be on all user names. So I'm not exactly sure what she did, and she's 15 so of course she can't remember, but the thing won't exactly run. I can get into that safety boot mode but don't know what to do after that tried starting in safe mode and all that, but it just gets stuck. One user ID (the original administrator one) will appear as if Windows is going to start but it never does.I bought it at a pawn shop, so of course there are no restoration disks. I'm thinking it can't be anything too difficult, I just don't know the command to run.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI recently got a new PC that I built up myself, and I could run it perfectly until I was going to start XP for the first time. After that it was finished installing Windows XP Professional, it rebooted and I got this XP loading screen. Now is the problem, it's stuck there forever with this loading thing moving and moving in an endless loop. What could be the problem? I hope it's nothing hardware related as they are all new.
View 14 Replies View RelatedToday I turned on my computer and Windows won't load. It just stops at the loading screen (the one with the Windows logo and blue loading bar). The bar just stops moving.I can load Windows in Safe Mode, and I tried scanning for viruses (0) and spyware (5) - but it didn't help.I didn't install anything new and haven't changed any setting. The only thing is that I turned my computer on while there was a CD in the drive. I took it out but it didn't help.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI had a power supply die out of nowhere on me about a month ago. Last night I replaced it, and when starting up my computer I was given the option to boot windows normally, in safe mode, or in my last known configuration. Any of these options take me to the black screen with the windows logo and the blue loading bar, as usual. However, I am stuck at this screen. I've never encountered this, what do you think could be the problem?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI turned on my computer today, of course to be stuck with a blue screen of death.I'm getting the error:I have google'd this error, but I only get the first and second sets of error codes to match. No one seems to have the third set [0x823AA138] and after. No idea what to do.I have tried repairing but it kept saying X file is missing do you want to skip? I did this for many files before I got another blue screen.
I read somewhere in this forum that if you had a CD Key stuck on your computer you could install the Windows XP CD of your choice. What I mean to say is this: I have an HP Compaq computer that came with the Windows XP OEM bundled version and its own product Key stuck to the computer. So after the 90 day support with HP, I got rid of all the crapola that comes with their bundle, (AOL, Disney Channel, Silly things, etc.) and reformatted with a copy of Windows XP OEM, using the Product Key on the computer. NO Problem. I have done this several times before and only had one problem, which was resolved through phoning Microsoft Activation Center.

I turned it on it got to the Windows log on and shut down and constantly reboots over and over. I tried chkdsk /r I couldnt get /f to work by itself Last know configure didnt work I foolishly tried this LINK Then I read in another forum that it could be a bad driver. I do recall when I was able to get in safe mode an error for my printer came up so I want to get in safe mode and try to uninstall it. but now safe mode won't work and after doing that part in the link its says I have 2 O/s to choose from?
View 2 Replies View RelatedInstalled SP3 today. The install seemed to go fine.Restarted the computer, now I am stuck in a boot loop computer starts, goes to the We apologies page.None of the load options work, computer simply shuts down and goes back to the same page. Since this computer was a Vista-ready computer, but I ordered it with Win XP Pro,I don't have the OEM Win XP Pro CD.Therefore, can't do a chkdsk.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI think my PC is infected with a virus. It is stuck in a continuous startup loop.I get an error message stating:SAS Window: winlogon.exe - Application Error I'm given an option to enter to terminate the program or cancel to debug. Either option restarts the system again. It won't work in safe mode or any thing else.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI am giving my old computer to my partner and would like to change the log in screen so it will stop saying my name.I have changed the password on it, but it still says my name when logging back it and this has to be manually changed. As well, when logging off, it keeps asking to log off with my name, not the new user.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a P4 2200Mhz desktop, running XP Pro, service pack 1. The computer was running fine last night but when I started it up this morning it comes to the windows login screen where my user name is already in, but when I try to put my password in the cursors freezes and I cant do anything. Then I have to do a hard restart. I tried starting it in safe mode but the same thing happens.

View 14 Replies View RelatedToday, I found out that my computer hangs at the login screen. I boot up the computer as normal, and the login box is shown. I click into the password field (Note: I do not have the normal welcome screen, I have the Win2000 one.) and am ready to type my password. When I begin typing my password, nothing pops up. I attempt to move the mouse, but it is frozen where it last was. Sometimes it doesn't even move (The mouse) when I first boot it up. So seeing this as any problem, I go in Safe Mode. It's a sure bet that the mouse will move. Though it moves flawlessly, the password box is where the annoyance stays. I attempt to type my password, but then my computer hangs, AGAIN.I'm typing this from my brother's computer, and have yet to find the answer. I hear that this is some sort of password corruption and can be prevented by not having passwords on the account. I want to change this, but I can't login in the first place.
This I'm sure is not a virus. I scan for viruses every week (With Kaspersky), leave Ad-Aware, Giant Antispyware, and Zone Alarm on. I've used Google to search for answers, and yes I've found them being solved. They include the same problems, but they can get into Safe Mode, which in my case, I can't. I've tried Safe Mode 7 times and it doesn't work. (I can get in safe mode but the keyboard/mouse still hang)I didn't have time to backup files, and I have pictures that I haven't backed up onto CDs. People that have solved this problem have done it without reformatting, and I need a solution without reformatting.
I took the laptop home and tried to set it up on my home network. It had mapped network drives and the login still came up under the company domain. In the System settings, I changed it from being a "Computer primarily used in an office or work environment" to a "Computer primarily used in a home office environment". Now when it starts up, the domain is gone and I can't log in to the computer. It was under his work username and password, and it NO LONGER ACCEPTS THE PASSWORD because it is no longer logging in under a domain!
View 13 Replies View RelatedMy computer keeps sticking on the Welcome Screen, but only on my default username, the administrator account loads perfectly. I cannot fix this name because the primary username cannot be deleted. Any suggestions besides msconfig? I already tried removing all startup programs and it did not fix it.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI only have 1 user on my computer, but it doesn't automatically log-in for me anymore. I never changed the settings, it just did on it's own this morning for some reason. Also, now for some reason instead of going to a screen saver when I'm inactive for like 10 minutes, it will instead take me back to the log in screen. Also, how can I stop Windows Messenger (a weak version of MSN Messenger) from starting when I turn on my computer? I'm using Windows XP.
View 2 Replies View Relatedsome relatives of mine have a decent enough computer with not that much stuff on it (its better than my PC1). anyhow they've asked my to try and speed up their boot time because it takes yonks to reach the log in screen and it really shouldn't. so im going to have a thorough clean of msconfig, im going to use "ntregopt" and i might even use ATF cleaner.anything else i can use to speed it up?

View 18 Replies View RelatedMy computer will not respond or work at a regular speed. For no apparent reason, it recently decided to perform so slowly that log in is either impossible or takes a half hour at minimum (seriously). I started in safe mode and did system restore to a date that is definitely safe, and still nothing. It's as slow as ever. One thing that may cause problems : The work offline pop-up. This computer does not go online and has NO network connections, but this pop-up persists, and did appear right before I had this problem.
View 6 Replies View RelatedWhat happened is I just installed a new Hard Drive and a fresh windows install (XP Pro with Service pack 3). After all was installed it logged into my account (Me) which was my account with Administrator privileges. I did a series of windows updates now when I turn my computer on it goes straight to the Administrator account and not my account (me). So I have to log off or switch accounts from Admin to Me. I just want it to login to Me all the time. So I am not smart enough to figure it out.
