View 8 RepliesI am giving my old computer to my partner and would like to change the log in screen so it will stop saying my name.I have changed the password on it, but it still says my name when logging back it and this has to be manually changed.As well, when logging off, it keeps asking to log off with my name, not the new user.

The computer was running fine last night but when I started it up this morning it comes to the windows login screen where my user name is already in, but when I try to put my password in the cursors freezes and I can�t do anything. Then I have to do a hard restart. I tried starting it in safe mode but the same thing happens.

View 7 Replies View RelatedToday, I found out that my computer hangs at the login screen. I boot up the computer as normal, and the login box is shown. I click into the password field (Note: I do not have the normal welcome screen, I have the Win2000 one.) and am ready to type my password. When I begin typing my password, nothing pops up. I attempt to move the mouse, but it is frozen where it last was. Sometimes it doesn't even move (The mouse) when I first boot it up. So seeing this as any problem, I go in Safe Mode. It's a sure bet that the mouse will move. Though it moves flawlessly, the password box is where the annoyance stays. I attempt to type my password, but then my computer hangs, AGAIN.I'm typing this from my brother's computer, and have yet to find the answer. I hear that this is some sort of password corruption and can be prevented by not having passwords on the account. I want to change this, but I can't login in the first place.
This I'm sure is not a virus. I scan for viruses every week (With Kaspersky), leave Ad-Aware, Giant Antispyware, and Zone Alarm on. I've used Google to search for answers, and yes I've found them being solved. They include the same problems, but they can get into Safe Mode, which in my case, I can't. I've tried Safe Mode 7 times and it doesn't work. (I can get in safe mode but the keyboard/mouse still hang)I didn't have time to backup files, and I have pictures that I haven't backed up onto CDs. People that have solved this problem have done it without reformatting, and I need a solution without reformatting.
I took the laptop home and tried to set it up on my home network. It had mapped network drives and the login still came up under the company domain. In the System settings, I changed it from being a "Computer primarily used in an office or work environment" to a "Computer primarily used in a home office environment". Now when it starts up, the domain is gone and I can't log in to the computer. It was under his work username and password, and it NO LONGER ACCEPTS THE PASSWORD because it is no longer logging in under a domain!

I cannot fix this name because the primary username cannot be deleted. Any suggestions besides msconfig? I already tried removing all startup programs and it did not fix it.

Also, now for some reason instead of going to a screen saver when I'm inactive for like 10 minutes, it will instead take me back to the log in screen. I bought a new system with XP OS. First time it is directly login into admin account.I created 2 more users on this system and created password for admin user.But when I switch on computer, It directly login into Admin user.Once I log off it is coming welcome screen and asking selecting user and Password.

For no apparent reason, it recently decided to perform so slowly that log in is either impossible or takes a half hour at minimum (seriously). I started in safe mode and did system restore to a date that is definitely safe, and still nothing. It's as slow as ever. One thing that may cause problems : The work offline pop-up. This computer does not go online and has NO network connections, but this pop-up persists, and did appear right before I had this problem.

After all was installed it logged into my account (Me) which was my account with Administrator privileges. I did a series of windows updates now when I turn my computer on it goes straight to the Administrator account and not my account (me). So I have to log off or switch accounts from Admin to Me. I just want it to login to Me all the time. So I am not smart enough to figure it out.

But then i got GAIN from i think some codec i got online, and then my cpu usage used to jump up to 100% quite frequently. I attempted to look online as to how to remove GAIN from my computer,It has some changes to the registry which i did without making backup of it. View 14 Replies View RelatedI'm using Win XP sp2 and I usually leave my computer on 24/7. This morning I tried to open a file but it never opened. I went into the task manager to see if its even processing and it was there but the ccapp was taking all the cpu. So i tried to shutdown and restart. After that windows boots up to the login screen just fine but when i click on my account it take a long time to show my wallpaper. I can pull up task manager and the cpu isnt being used. the hdd is only accessed in little bursts. After a while the start menu pops up. any keyboard commands like to bring up win explorer takes a long time and all the commands pop up in a big burp of of command executions. I'm trying to reach system restore but cant. I'm not sure how to get into safemode with this system because just after post when f8 is usually used to bring up the menu the system opens a boot drive selection screen. During the RAM tests during post theres text stating press del to enter bios and f8 to enter boot drive selection so im not sure how to get to safemode now.
View 2 Replies View RelatedThis is a Windows XP sp3 domain connected PC with one specific user, which all of a sudden takes 2.5mins to log in to the domain, Where it used to take just about 20 seconds. Other users on the same PC is all OK 20sec login This is not the usual where it hangs at "applying computer settings" or "personal settings" it's after those two has passed that it just hangs for a couple of minutes.
All i get is the mouse pointer (not even hourglass) and the desktop wallpaper for about 2-3 minutes. When it finally logs in everything is as quick as you would expect that spec of PC to be (1,6ghz Sempron, 1gb RAM, 40gb IDE-100 HDD)
my computer would give me a few problems while booting up. I would start the computer, it would run through BIOS, run through the Windows loading screen, and after that it would run the CHKDSK to make sure my disks are fine. CHKDSK doesn't work, it just freezes right before checking the disks, so I restart and generally it will boot up. Most of the time it would boot up perfectly, but rarely would it go to the xp loading screen and then flicker as if it as going to go to the windows login screen but wouldn't. The screen would just stay black and I'd have to restart.
Next time, generally it would work perfect.So this brings me to the current day. After the windows xp loading screen, it goes black. The computer is on, but I don't see any activity for the HDD via the LED. SO i go into safe mode, i finally get CHKDSK to run, I had to really mess with some stuff to get that working. Windows says the volume is fine, and the only way I can boot my PC is in safe mode, but even that will freeze sometimes while loading some of the files.
for some reason i am the only user on this computer but it just recently started not having it highlighted when booted... the first pic is what i am getting when booting now... and the 2nd one is what i used to get (which is what i want back) anybody know what the deal is?

I just put the windows cd in and waited a few minutes and tried to log in and it worked.
I have the login loop problem. Click on user's name and the system loads settings, and then saves settings and returns to logon screen. I have checked the Winlogon registry entry, and yes it is correct. I have copied the userinit.exe file to wsaupdater.exe. I have done an in-place reinstall of XP Home with SP 2 which I have succesfully re-activated.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have what is hopefully an easy question: I have a windows "configuration" box that pops up quickly after I log in (XP Professional), then it closes down right away.It's like one of those "configuring personal settings" boxes that shows up after you install something, then reboot to complete the install. When you log in, the box pops up saying that it's configuring the thing you just installed.But this one goes by so quickly, I can't see what software it's trying to confiure. I uninstalled the couple of utilities that I had recently installed -- thinking they might be the culprits -- but it's still appearing. And since it's started appearing, my machine hangs for a couple minutes after login, like it's waiting for something to timeout. Before this started, life was good. Whatever it's trying to do, it's not being able to do, because it keeps running every time I log in. And my virus scan is completely clean.Anyway, my question is: does anyone know where Windows stores the information about installations or configurations that need to run on reboot? I've looked in the registry in the Run and RunOnce sections of both HKLM and HKCU, and there's nothing there. It's also not in the Startup folder.Obviously, there's some command somewhere that's running whenever I log in. I just need to find out where it is so I can figure out what's causing it.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI've been having several problems with my PC lately. First, it started restarting randomly without any rhyme or reason. After disabling automatic restart, instead of restarting, it gave me a BSOD that told me one or more of my drivers was misbehaving. As soon as I log in, my CPU usage jumps to 100% and stays there. The strange thing is that it isn't a single process hogging the resources, it's always several processes using around 20% each. The processes eating resources aren't exactly foreign either. Most of the time they are Windows system processes or components of my AV/firewall. This happens to all of my user accounts, but it doesn't happen in safe mode.

I unplugged the keyboard, the mouse, everything, and nothing would stop it. I thought it maybe needed to be rebooted, but when I did that, I got myself in a worse position because now it is STILL stuck and it won't let me enter my password in the sign-on area. (I had password protected it to keep my teenage daughter off the computer at times she wasn't allowed to be). So I can say it's not the keyboard or the mouse, because after unplugging them, it still types *something* all by itself into my signon box. And I can't get it to stop.
