My computer keeps sticking on the Welcome Screen, but only on my default username, the administrator account loads perfectly. I cannot fix this name because the primary username cannot be deleted. Any suggestions besides msconfig? I already tried removing all startup programs and it did not fix it.
View 2 Repliesi have xp sp2 160 gb hdd with 4 partitions. c ,d,e and f (all ntfs). whenever i start or restart, a scandisk starts in f drive which is 100gb. it copletes step 1 and step 2. but it gets stuck at 0% in the third step without any message. no errors are shown in the first two steps. so i have to cancel the scannings everytime. even i installed a new os in the d drive even that is showing the same thing.
View 8 Replies View RelatedMy problem is that sometimes, when i have enough programs or firefox windows opened, i cannot open any more programs, right click on the desktop, or ctrl+alt+del. I do it and nothing happens. Its like i run out of ram. I have to close down one program to open up another. I have 1gb of ram. I dont think its a ram problem because most of the time i can open way more stuff and not expereince this weird effect. The only way to fix it is to restart my computer sometimes.
View 9 Replies View RelatedMy computer is stuck on the boot screen, the mouse is lit up as to be working the keyboard flashed its lights as it always does when you boot but then everything seems to stop there. the screen is stuck on the boot screen the keyboard doesnt seem to work (lights are gone and wont come back on.) the lights on the back of the computer (the yellow and green ones) are all yellow but one. The C light is green. they are a steady color. Not blinking. A,B,D are all yellow.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am attempting a downgrade on my Dell XPS M1530. It has Vista Ultimate. I have unallocated hard drive space for the XP partition. When I put in my XP disc, it loads and states that "Setup did not find any hard disk drives installed in your computer. Make sure any hard disks are powered on and properly connected etc. etc." How come this is happening? I know people have downgraded this specific laptop before, as it is all over the internet but I can't find anyone else getting this error

I found TeaTimer in two file locations: C/Windows/Prefetch/TEATIMER.EXE-0390E8A7.pf and in Programs/Spybot Search and Destroy/Updates/teatimer.exe. Are these two separate programs? How can I get TeaTimer.exe to end properly at shutdown? Do I need to delete it/them?

the Hard Drive is the only one that lets me log on my system, the other choices only take me back to the same pop up message.
I had a 25 min VHS tape that I needed copied to a DVD pronto for my boss. I brought it down to a video duplication place and they burned me a DVD for me. When I brought it back to the office there were some peculiar things happening with the audio:
1) I could not open the DVD video with Windows Media Player (heavily distorted audio) or Real Player (wouldn't open at all).
2) I could open it with "Nero Showtime" (I guess this is like a file player) with good audio and no distortion.
This came up while attempting to reinstall XP. The CD is in there, Does it just mean I should give up? The file on Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 2 CD is needed.Type the path where the file is located, and then click OK.

I believe the problem might be with a corrupt file setupapi.log or Windows Image Aquisition. I have two such files and I do not know whether I am supposed to have two or not. View 1 Replies View RelatedDell inspiron 1000 2.2 celeron 256 ram 40gig Win-xp.the machine had recovered from serious error. Upon rebooting the windows program would not load and the hard drive made a clicking sound. I went into setup and no value was set for the hard drive. then the clicking stopped for no apparent reason and i got the windows to load. i went on line for about an hour then the clicking noise started again and the unit shut itself off and tried to reboot on its own. again i went to setup and no hard drive was detected. I did nothing but look around in the setup and again the clicking stopped on its own. the windows loaded again and i am online just now creating this message. Usually the cooling fan would be running alot, however i did not hear it running at all since the blue screen.I have had numerous blue screens. the online search always points to the Sonic Record Now as the culprit but offers no solution.

The mother board on the gateway crashed and I could not find a replacement thus I purchased the new dell. I extracted the hard drive from the gateway and installed in an external drive case. All works well and I am able to retreve data from the gate way hard drive with one exception. While the hard drive was installed in the gateway I elected to make some of the folders private, ie right click on folder, click on sharing and security and clicking on private. This worked fine in the gateway but when I installed in external hard drive I am getting an "access denied" error message when trying to open with the Dell.

Whenever i try to play some of my video files (.avi, .mpg. wmv. etc) my shell and media player will both crash. For shells i have tried both bblean and standard explorer, media players i have tried are windows media player, winamp, and bsplayer. It dosent actually crash the program, it just brings up the little "this program needs to close" thing. if i drag it to the side the video will continue to play (somtimes). somtimes the videos wont load at all.

View 7 Replies View RelatedToday, I found out that my computer hangs at the login screen. I boot up the computer as normal, and the login box is shown. I click into the password field (Note: I do not have the normal welcome screen, I have the Win2000 one.) and am ready to type my password. When I begin typing my password, nothing pops up. I attempt to move the mouse, but it is frozen where it last was. Sometimes it doesn't even move (The mouse) when I first boot it up. So seeing this as any problem, I go in Safe Mode. It's a sure bet that the mouse will move. Though it moves flawlessly, the password box is where the annoyance stays. I attempt to type my password, but then my computer hangs, AGAIN.I'm typing this from my brother's computer, and have yet to find the answer. I hear that this is some sort of password corruption and can be prevented by not having passwords on the account. I want to change this, but I can't login in the first place.
This I'm sure is not a virus. I scan for viruses every week (With Kaspersky), leave Ad-Aware, Giant Antispyware, and Zone Alarm on. I've used Google to search for answers, and yes I've found them being solved. They include the same problems, but they can get into Safe Mode, which in my case, I can't. I've tried Safe Mode 7 times and it doesn't work. (I can get in safe mode but the keyboard/mouse still hang)I didn't have time to backup files, and I have pictures that I haven't backed up onto CDs. People that have solved this problem have done it without reformatting, and I need a solution without reformatting.
I took the laptop home and tried to set it up on my home network. It had mapped network drives and the login still came up under the company domain. In the System settings, I changed it from being a "Computer primarily used in an office or work environment" to a "Computer primarily used in a home office environment". Now when it starts up, the domain is gone and I can't log in to the computer. It was under his work username and password, and it NO LONGER ACCEPTS THE PASSWORD because it is no longer logging in under a domain!

For no apparent reason, it recently decided to perform so slowly that log in is either impossible or takes a half hour at minimum (seriously). I started in safe mode and did system restore to a date that is definitely safe, and still nothing. It's as slow as ever. One thing that may cause problems : The work offline pop-up. This computer does not go online and has NO network connections, but this pop-up persists, and did appear right before I had this problem.

After all was installed it logged into my account (Me) which was my account with Administrator privileges. I did a series of windows updates now when I turn my computer on it goes straight to the Administrator account and not my account (me). So I have to log off or switch accounts from Admin to Me. I just want it to login to Me all the time. So I am not smart enough to figure it out.
