View 7 Replies View RelatedWindows Installer is still messed up on my computer. I've tried all the repair methods suggested on the Microsoft pages, but none have worked. The remaining suggestion is a Windows repair, but I'd like to avoid that drastic step. I don't look forward to reinstalling all the software I've accumulated over the past five years. The Windows updates alone would take the better part of a day.My question is: can you recommend a program which will remove every trace of MSIEXEC and every registry entry for the installer, so that I would be able to download and install version 3.0? I tried to do this, but upon starting the installation, got a message which said that the present Installer on my system was later than the one I was attempting to install. Seems an aborted install of version 3.1 had left enough traces to appear to have been installed.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI've got four files in my computer that I can't delete. I don't think they're system files or anything like that. They are in the program files section in windows explorer in folders labled Adobe(2) and Adobe(3). And there are two files in each folder that I can't delete.I've tried several methods starting with simply deleting the files from windows explorer. That didn't work, so I uninstalled all the Adobe programs I had (Adobe reader and Flash player). Then I tried to delete the files from windows explorer again with no Adobe programs installed.

When I put in my XP disc, it loads and states that "Setup did not find any hard disk drives installed in your computer. I know people have downgraded this specific laptop before, as it is all over the internet but I can't find anyone else getting this error

I found TeaTimer in two file locations: C/Windows/Prefetch/TEATIMER.EXE-0390E8A7.pf and in Programs/Spybot Search and Destroy/Updates/teatimer.exe. Are these two separate programs? How can I get TeaTimer.exe to end properly at shutdown? Do I need to delete it/them?

Hard Drive
the Hard Drive is the only one that lets me log on my system, the other choices only take me back to the same pop up message.
I had a 25 min VHS tape that I needed copied to a DVD pronto for my boss. I brought it down to a video duplication place and they burned me a DVD for me. When I brought it back to the office there were some peculiar things happening with the audio:
1) I could not open the DVD video with Windows Media Player (heavily distorted audio) or Real Player (wouldn't open at all).
2) I could open it with "Nero Showtime" (I guess this is like a file player) with good audio and no distortion.
This came up while attempting to reinstall XP. The CD is in there, Does it just mean I should give up? The file on Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 2 CD is needed.Type the path where the file is located, and then click OK.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am getting an error message when attempting to connect my USB cable to my scanner. The error message is Windows could not load the installer for Image. I believe the problem might be with a corrupt file setupapi.log or Windows Image Aquisition. I have two such files and I do not know whether I am supposed to have two or not. Also, I am not sure if I can delete these files and where to get one to replace the two I have deleted.

I went into setup and no value was set for the hard drive. then the clicking stopped for no apparent reason and i got the windows to load. i went on line for about an hour then the clicking noise started again and the unit shut itself off and tried to reboot on its own. again i went to setup and no hard drive was detected. I did nothing but look around in the setup and again the clicking stopped on its own. the windows loaded again and i am online just now creating this message. Usually the cooling fan would be running alot, however i did not hear it running at all since the blue screen.I have had numerous blue screens. the online search always points to the Sonic Record Now as the culprit but offers no solution.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a new Dell computer with windows xp operating system. My old computer was a gateway with windows xp also. The mother board on the gateway crashed and I could not find a replacement thus I purchased the new dell. I extracted the hard drive from the gateway and installed in an external drive case. All works well and I am able to retreve data from the gate way hard drive with one exception. While the hard drive was installed in the gateway I elected to make some of the folders private, ie right click on folder, click on sharing and security and clicking on private. This worked fine in the gateway but when I installed in external hard drive I am getting an "access denied" error message when trying to open with the Dell.
View 1 Replies View RelatedThe entire error msg is:

The only account on the system is mine that is an administrator account but i still get this error.
Whenever i try to play some of my video files (.avi, .mpg. wmv. etc) my shell and media player will both crash. For shells i have tried both bblean and standard explorer, media players i have tried are windows media player, winamp, and bsplayer. It dosent actually crash the program, it just brings up the little "this program needs to close" thing. if i drag it to the side the video will continue to play (somtimes). somtimes the videos wont load at all.

View 2 Replies View RelatedWhen I was about to use Norton Speed Disk to defrag, I noticed about 4 Gigs of "unmovable" file space allocated at the end of my C disk which was not there twenty four hours ago. The same space on the disk is listed as "Allocated" by Auslogics Defrag program. I defrag about every other day so I know it wasn't there before. The only major change I've made recently was to install SP3. But I also installed SP3 on my laptop and have noticed no such evidence of any file that huge listed as "unmovable" by Speed Disk or "Allocated" by Auslogics Defrag program like I have on my desktop. Another interesting thing is that when booted in Safe Mode that file does not appear in the disk usage graphics for those two defrag programs. And, in Safe Mode, my "free space" is increased by about 4 Gigs compared when booted normally. This huge file only appears when booted normally. Maybe you might think that with hard drives so huge these days I should just not worry about it. The computer seems to be running okay. But it bothers me to have this huge file, or whatever it is, just suddenly appear and take up so much space. Can anybody help me figure out what this is and get rid of it?
