My Computer is stuck in some rebooting cycle. I have XP home edition. Every time I log in it shows my desktop with no icons, sits then logs off. I've tried safe mode with the same result. I've tried booting with my XP cd with same result. I read somewhere that it might be a virus

Few days ago my ISP disconnected my internet because they found an IRC bot infecting their network. I ran my antivirus and (gasp) it found system32/virut virus, among a plethora of other files. View 4 Replies View RelatedI tried cleaning up some of the spyware that is on my computer the other day. Once I had, I restarted. The welcome screen appeared, it flashed my background and then went to a welcome screen with my name on it. I click on my name, the log in music plays, my background appears and then the log out music plays and I am right back at the welcome screen with my name on it. I have tried opening in every type of safe mode and all other available options when I hit F8. I called the maker of my computer and they said it is a spyware problem

View 1 Replies View RelatedLast night I took the recommendation of Jeruvy and Arctik at this post and ran my virus checker (AVG) and spyware program (Spybot) in Safe Mode. You can read about the erratic behavior I was trying to correct in that post, but it's not directly related to the problem at hand.AVG found no problem, but Spybot found one malware program that it didn't find when not in Safe Mode: W32/GGDoor..I had Spybot correct it, which it said it did successfully. While I was in Safe Mode, I went ahead and cleaned up a bunch of temp files in each account's %temp% folder. I then rebooted.Since the reboot, I cannot properly log in to Windows -- not in regular mode nor in Safe Mode. When I log into any of the accounts (this is XP Home with multiple accounts), Windows logs me in, but before much of anything else happens, it says it is logging me back out.

-Whatever user i choose, it goes to log on and then immediatly logs off and goes back to the user screen.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI recently had a new PC built for me by a friend of mine. It had some problems intially so he re-installed Windows XP and changed the RAM voltage to 1.90 in the Setup menu as the PC boots up.Anyways, he kept my PC for about 2 weeks while I was on vacation, running various programs and using it for all kinds of tasks on a regular basis, and everything was fine.I've had it home for a couple of weeks now. Every once in awhile something seemed wrong, but usually a good reboot would solve any problems...so no big deal. However, within the past week, it's had terrible troubles rebooting. This is basically what will happen.
A. It will boot up to the Windows loading screen, but right before it gets to the screen where you select a user, it crashes with a quick flash of the blue screen of death (I see it for like 1/5 of a second--so I can't read what it says) and reboots. Sometimes when it reboots I get the option to boot up in Safe mode. When the problems first started, I could boot up in Safe Mode, restart from Safe mode and everything would be fine. Now, however, I'm usually not so lucky.
B.When I finally get it booted up, I'll get some Error about a Registry file that had to be recovered from an alternate copy: Recovery was successful.After that, I usually get error reports for the following programs. These are the most common programs that will randomly cease to function, but there are usually some other error codes thrown in there too.
1. MSN Live Messenger
2. GoogleChat (internal error)
3. AcroTray
4. AVG anti-virus
5. Logitech Messenger
C. Here are some other errors I have recieved at random times. Some I've got only once in many reboots, others have shown up a few times. The most recent ones are at the bottom.
1. Nvidia Driver error

3. Smax4PNP
4. Exception has occurred while trying to run C: Windows/system32/NVCPl.dll/NVstartup

I had a thread on here before, but it got deleted so I'm starting a new one with fresh new problem.I set chkdsk /r to run on system startup, and it ran but took forever to scan file data (I left it running for 4 days) so I rebooted but it started chkdsk again! Theres obviously something telling it to run the scan on next startup because it never finished the first time. Now if I run it it just freezes at 0% for checking file data.It I go into startup options and tell it to boot in safe mode, it shows it loading all the drivers and then pauses and says "Press Esc to cancel loading a347bus.sys" and whether I press Esc or not it freezes. If I do last known good configuration, it runs into the chkdsk problem again.
View 14 Replies View RelatedMy main pc is stuck in a boot cycle giving me the black screen with options to start in safe mode etc etc and when selecting one of those options it reboots to the same point. When I press return the system tries to start it attempts it, clicks then goes back to boot cycle. The Windows XP system disk won't cut in like it should so I cannot gain control of the pc.
System is a Dell, 2years old and has had various viruses despite having the usual protection. I am currently using my old trusty Advent Pentium 3 for this message (which has never had the same degree of virus prob's curiously). After the first virus Dell talked me through using Ghost - brilliant. Within a couple of days it was hit again and usinng Spybot got rid of the virus but PC kept displaying the message rundll.dll file damaged. So I used XP Recovery seemingly with no problem only to find it won't reboot.
A friend of mine gave me an HP Pavilion ze4400. It had Windows XP installed on it when he gave it to me. I moved out of the area and forgot to take the XP CD with me. I was having problems with picking up wireless networks using my USB wireless adapter. Uninstalling and reinstalling the program for the adapter didn't fix anything, in fact, it made it worse. So I thought I would try using an XP CD to correct the problems that way. I had no idea that XP CDs weren't all the same.I put the CD that I had for my IBM laptop in the HP and it started to install. After about 10 minutes or so, I got a "Fatal Error":"An error has been encountered that prevents Setup from continuing.One of the components that Windows needs to continue setup could not be installed.The operation was canceled by the user.Press OK to view the Setup log file"The Systel Setup Log:"Error:The signature for Windows XP Home Edition Upgrade is invalid. View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently had troubles getting my Lite-On optical drive to run in DMA mode. I updated the JMicron drivers for it and it was working fine. I don't know if this has anything to do with it but the JMicron update had two options, one for SCSI and one for Standard IDE. I did the first one and everything was working then I did the second one and now XP won't start. I don't know if it is just chance or what. XP just keeps restarting after the logo with the status bar. I have tried unchecking the "Automatically Restart" under system failure options to see if there is a blue screen but it still just restarts. I have also tried a system recovery to back a week ago to no success. When starting in safe mode and loading drivers a message comes up that says "ESC to cancel loading SPTD.sys" or something like that. I don't know if that has anything to do with it either.

View 10 Replies View RelatedI've found that if I perform a straight cold boot, first of the day, my computers window bar continues to cycle. See my question of 8/20. However, if I press "Del" in the initial stage of bootup and leave my computer in the BIOS setup mode for 2-3 minutes and then exit I am able to boot normally. I suspect that I may have a problem with the motherboard or one of the PCI cards having a bad component.

I was working on it the other day and it randomly restarted, and came up with the classic user log on screen. i.e. where you must enter your username and password, not the one where it gives you a choice of user names. Also, before it loaded this screen, it flashed an unusual blue screen momentarily. I tried to log on using my username, and it started to log me on, made the traditional windows log on noise, but the dialog bow said logging out at the bottom, which is what it did moments later and I found myself back at the classic log on screen. I have tried several times to log on, I have restarted my computer, and I have started it in safe mode and it keeps doing the same thing.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have been trying to start my computer for some time now but whenever the computer gets to the desktop screen, a ton of programs start popping up and eventually the computer restarts and the cycle continues until I shut the computer off. I am able to do virtually nothing on the computer before it restarts but I am able to see that the computer is running at 100% and has approx 180 applications running when I open the . I want to do a virus scan but cannot and no matter how many of the programs I try to close, it always restarts. Is there any way that I can stop all programs from processing at the start so it may not restart on me?

this happens in all modes, safe mode, networking mode, iv tried just about everything.I tried to use my xp disk and it doesnt load it, I have set it too boot from the disk aswell, and it makes no difference it just loads as normal and then logs out againIv made a boot floppy disk, and it lets me get to a form of DOS screen, but its useless, all the commands dont work, I have put the xp disk in, and tried too use the dos too install xp but it doesnt do anything
I just put together a new system from scratch and regretting it BIG TIME, I have an intel d915GAG board with an intel P4 3.2 chip. Brand new WD HD, floppy, and 2 dvd/cd drives. After the final screw was tightened, I started my new system and the intel logo appeared. I pressed ESC and it appears to start the bios setup. It flashes my memory size (size is 512 MB), then the screen immediately flashes and begins to do and IDE scan, in which it promptly tells me that Device 0 not detected, device 1 not detected, device 2 not detected, device 3 not detected....and the setup stops right there. I don't have a clue, after searching Intel's site for 2 hours where to go from here.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI've had my computer for a while and have upgraded it many times. One such time was a few years ago when I went from Win98SE to WinME. Things were good for a while until I needed to reformat my harddrive, couldn't find my WinME CD and had to go back to Win98SE. Problem was, I have another harddrive, that I didn't include in the "downgrade" so it was unavailable after I loaded win98. I formatted that disk and things have been fine since.
I got an Ipod for Christmas and didn't notice when I bought it that it required 2000 or XP. I thought, not a problem, I'll just upgrade to XP. So last night, I upgraded and immediately noticed some problems. First of all, when I right click on the desktop, the computer freezes and you have to restart. Same thing happens if you're in a folder and try to create a new folder. My Sims2 game won't run (I've uninstalled and reinstalled wtih no luck)....
