The way the date and sidebar pop up whenever I use my mouse in certain places is very annoying.
How do I disable both of them?
Also, how do I disable password protected log-on?
If I click on Recent Places on the left hand menu of windows explorer (File Explorer) the folder is always empty.
ETA - When I right click on taskbar and go to properties, both items are already checked under the Jump Lists tab.
Recently, when right clicking on the explorer icon in my task bar I noticed that all of my pinned folders and recent places had disappeared. I looked in my recent places folder and found that that was empty.
I also realized that other programs had lost their extra jump list options, for example Skype, which when right clicked should give the option to quit Skype, but instead only had the basic 'close window' and 'unpin' options.
The Skype jump list reappears once I restart Skype, however the explorer jump list is still missing when I restart my PC or explorer.exe
I have tried deleting the files in C:Users\%USER%AppDataRoamingMicrosoftWindowsRecentAutomaticDestinations.
Then when I restart explorer.exe and pin things to my explorer task bar icon, everything is fine...
Until a little while later (for reasons I cannot explain) the jump lists disappear, even though their files in AutomaticDestinations still exist!
On the screen where you choose which user account to log in to, I've noticed the user avatars/icons are sorted in "last used" order. This is extremely annoying because it forces you to actively look at the icons instead of just alway clicking on the same place on the screen. (Compare it to if the digits buttons on your cellphone switched places e.g putting the 0 first. Confusing.)
How can I prevent this, ie to have the avatars in a fixed position always?
It's quite pointless for me, since I'm connected via cable, and I can't seem to do anything at all with the sidebar anyway. Double clicking on the only available network does nothing.
Any way to disable it? It's mildly annoying when it pops up when I misclick the icon. It also, I think, is what causes the right side of the screen to be rendered black when Desktop Window Manager is turned off. The black portion of the screen is the same size as the sidebar, and since turning off dwm.exe turns off Metro rendering, and the sidebar is the only Metro element I can think of that I can reach from the desktop, it makes sense that it might be the culprit.
I installed dropbox to my yahoo e-mail account in order to get some important forms. I allowed changes to be made to my computer the dropbox worked well. Then I tried to pull out the charms bar to shut down my computer and it was GONE!!!! How do I get it back?

Also, I've noticed that when I launch Chrome from the Start page, it no longer opens a Chrome browser independent of the Desktop, as it used to. Now it just opens Desktop and launches Chrome from within there.
How to make shortcuts appear in the sidebar of your windows explorer. I have a shortcut of the online backup program Skydrive but it wont appear in my sidebar. On the picture you can see what i mean with Side Bar etc.

1. command prompt, and listed and deleted the profiles, using the netsh wlan command

3. Setup new connection or network
4. Manually connect to a wireless network
5. typed the credentials of the network, checked start this connection automatically box and apply.

When I go to Date and Time setting by clicking "Time and Language", I find the "Set Time Automatically" option disabled and it is set to "ON".
I think it is synchronising automatically from the internet time server. I have my time zone also correctly to my region.
Either way, the other day I accidentally removed the date and time from the bottom right hand corner of the Windows 8 taskbar. I did this when i was trying to set the time from the Windows defaulted US Pacific Time to US Eastern Standard Time. How to get it back on the taskbar. Why my Java location on my computer is saying that it is "corrupted". I think it is related to Windows 8 upgrade.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have saved numerous files to my hard drive which I am now going back through in trying to put the proper dates that they were made (most of them are audio files; but there are definitely files from every category) and for the most part, I am able to get all of the information that I needed just by right clicking on the file, scrolling down to "Properties" and then selecting the "Details" tab. Nevertheless, for some reason, a good 25-40% of them show a completely inaccurate date. I set the time and date on the desktop clock, and every time I log in, the time and date are wrong and I have to reset them again. I have a dual boot setup with Windows 8 on one partition, and Ubuntu 12.10 on the other.
It doesn't appear to be an issue with the hardware of my computer, because the time and day stay set in Ubuntu. Some time ago, I was running a boot time diagnostic, and I got a warning the the was not timer connected to the apic...but that's all I could read before the message disappeared, I researched what I could and learned that this could and learned this had something to do with a physical component of my processor or related to my processor, but was unable to find out any more. As far as I know, this is the only hardware problem I have, and I thought this might be the cause of my erratic time/date.
