View 3 RepliesHow to reduce the taskbar menu icons using regedit.
Of course I know how to reduce the taskbar menu icons but I want to reduce them using registry.
Here is where i want to change it to smaller icons on taskbar menu.
And this is the way i know how to change but not do not know how to do that with registry.
I accidentally leaned on my keyboard and mouse and now all my Windows icons, title bars and context menus are too big and everything else such as icons and text within programs are too small. I'm running Windows 8.1 in Desktop mode on a laptop with external keyboard, mouse & monitor.

Like this: pgLat.jpg
Only when I add Gmail, it has the same Icon like Google. How I can change that icon? Without an app?
Either way, the other day I accidentally removed the date and time from the bottom right hand corner of the Windows 8 taskbar. I did this when i was trying to set the time from the Windows defaulted US Pacific Time to US Eastern Standard Time. How to get it back on the taskbar. Why my Java location on my computer is saying that it is "corrupted". I think it is related to Windows 8 upgrade.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have win 8.1 pro x64. I want to know if I can change the display order of disks icons manually. Usually the c drive appears first (from left to right), second cdrom icon and next the external drives. Can I change that with drag and drop? (I remember that I can do it in Vista).
View 2 Replies View RelatedWhat is the effect of setting a display as "Main display"?
My expectation is that in a multiple monitor setting, the upper most left hand corner of your "desktop" should be shown by windows on the display marked as "main". Is that wrong?
My problem scenario is that I dock and undock my Surface Pro 3 regularly (I assume this is a WIndows 8.1 question and is not specific to the Surface) and my desktop icons are not always going where I expect them to go.
Sometimes when I dock, my icons are shown on the 2nd monitor (which I have designated as my 'main display'), which is what I expect. But other times when I dock, they are shown on the Surface screen instead, which is a pain..
Sometimes when I undock, the icons are shown on the Surface screen and sometimes there are no icons shown at all on the Surface.. but if I play around with the options to "extend" a monitor or a projector (even though I don't have one hooked up) I can get the icons to appear on the Surface, although they are not lined up like I left them and I have to re-arrange them.
It almost seems to me that the o/s is sometimes not honoring the "main display", or its getting confused. Another small case in point is that, right now, I'm docked and my desktop icons are being shown on the surface, although my 2nd monitor is designated as "main". If I go into the settings and make the surface pro the "main" display, the icons get moved over to the 2nd monitor!
As you can see next to the date the programs arent being grouped into that little box where you click the arrow for some reason.

For some reason when I started up my laptop recently, all of the icons on both the taskbar and the desktop have turned invisible/disappear completely and I am unaware has to how to fix it. I have put a picture in the attachments that shows what the "icons" look like when they are highlighted and non-highlighted.
View 4 Replies View RelatedInstalled windows 8 today, took some time to get used to it but finally managed to all my programs working again. When you set taskbar icons to never combine, they become really low-res and ugly, and the system tray icons are always like this.
I always used Never combine option for the taskbar because I really prefer it that way. I am running a 1920x1080 resolution.

So recently, I've noticed my taskbar icons stay lit up, even when I'm not using them or I'm on a different task

View 1 Replies View RelatedThere are some times when I close a ModernUI app using a method that may not be common, in this case, the Windows Task Manager.
So I would load a ModernUI app, for example... PC Settings. I would then load the Windows Task Manager (the built-in one, not a third-part task manager such as Process Explorer by SysInternals). I would then find the program's task and then right-click on it and choose "End task". The full-screen window disappears as you would expect it to disappear but here's where the bug shows, the icon for PC Settings still stays in the Task Bar. I have to hover over the icon with my mouse, let Aero Peek appear, and then click the X button there to have the icon disappear from the Task Bar.
This also happens when I close an app when the app is windowed using ModernMix.
Sometimes I have to close an app this way because it locked up. I mentioned PC Settings because this seems to be an app that leaves its icon behind on the Task Bar when you force close the task in Task Manager.
This doesn't always happen, it seems that at random this bug will happen. It's like the taskbar isn't informed of the closure of the ModernUI app.
I currently have installed UXThemePatcher, UXStyle, Start8 and
White Title Bar Text: Windows 8 default theme - White TitleBar Text v1.1 by maddada1 on deviantART
Could any of those effect why this happens, also on Windows 8.1 and have installed the Windows 8.1 compatible versions of the software.
Some of my hidden icons on the task bar have extended menus in them. So I will right click on avast and then in that menu is an arrow for a submenu under update. I click on that submenu and it displays to the right and off the screen.
Was never an issue with windows 7. If it would extend off the screen it would move the submenu off to the left of the original menu. I have classic shell running as well, would that be the cause of the issue? Or is it a windows 8 thing?
When two or more documents of a program (microsoft word, for example) are used then the word icons are grouped in the task bar. When the mouse pointer is put over the word icon then a little window appears with the document names. This is useful but sometimes is not fast enough.
Is there possible to display the word document title names as extended icon names. Then it wouldn't be necessary to put the mouse pointer over the icons to choose the desired word document because the document names would be displayed in a task bar like two separated icons.
I'm working with an HP ElitePad, a 10" Win 8 tablet with no mouse/keyboard. One of the pieces of software I'm working with is only accessable via right-clicking (press and hold) its icon in the taskbar and selecting to launch it.
The issue I'm having is that the icons are very small and I need to get this working for an end user who would endlessly be missing it.
How to increase the size of the icons? All I can find so far is the checkmark in the options to make them smaller.
My "Notification Area Icons" was not working right, so I opened it and checked the box "show all icons and notifications on the task bar" and it did.... Now my task-bar is crowded with all these icons and so I must put them back. The problem is, I have tried clicking all over the task bar but can't find the tool/option to do it.
View 1 Replies View RelatedThe icons on the taskbar at the bottom of my screen become distorted. They'll generate copies of themselves, overlap other icons, and the start menu button disappears. Whenever I try to click an icon, it opens the icon to its left, as if the mouse needs to be calibrated. When I open the start menu, every time I scroll my mouse across a shortcut, it disappears. Poof. Just like that. I scroll my mouse over the icons a few more times, and usually, they'll come back, but if I scroll again, they disappear once more. Thus, I'm not able to open any programs from the start menu. Additionally, my background (which I normally have cycling through a folder of wallpapers) goes completely black.
This happens without warning; sometimes I'm playing video games and it happens when I alt-tab, sometimes I'm browsing the internet and it happens randomly, once I was just looking at my screen without running any programs or tasks and it happened. It will fix itself anywhere from a span of 2 minutes to half an hour.
In the lower right corner of my screen, there used to be 1 icon on the taskbar and if I clicked on it, a whole series of icons appeared above the taskbar. I have done something accidentally that puts all of the icons on the taskbar. There must be some command to consolidate taskbar icons or hide taskbar icons but Windows 8.1 has hidden them.

When I don't use my taskbar (When I'm using a program or AFK), stuff appears in my taskbar. First it's usually a folder (like a folder would appear in Windows Explorer, sometimes a bunch open up (stacked). Then application icons open (not actual applications, but what I associate with blank applications. When I click on anything on the taskbar, they disappear. When I woke up this morning, there were so many my computer was getting slow, and I spent over $1,000 on this 11 months ago. They appear over time (i.e. one after another, not all at once), so they build up after a while. Occasionally one will stack as if a second instance of it is occurring. In the picture, the stack of application picture has them all flat. It does that to them after you hover over them (and switch between them) for a while.
View 2 Replies View RelatedThis is how I have come to best like displaying the Applications folder I keep on my Windows8 Desktop Taskbar. Listed in alphabetical order it's how I can pull or access anything I may want @ any given moment w/out leaving Desktop to look for something. I simply scroll up & down for the desired item & it saves changing screens to go get something. A few, like Weather, Calendar, News I'll usually keep sitting on the APP Bar @ the top-left of the Desktop.
View 7 Replies View RelatedWhenever I open a folder with more than a couple of icons it takes about 10 seconds for the icons to appear correctly. Sometimes some icons won't even display the way they should even after those 10 seconds, it's just a generic blank icon.
Is there a way of correcting this?
My Windows is the 8.1 Pro 32-bit (6.3, build 9600).
I need to go into Program Files(x86)>Mozilla Firefox and click on the firefox logo in that folder for the Firefox page to appear.

Since I installed Windows 8 (on top of Vista x64 Ultimate) I have two Control Panel icons in the Taskbar.
If I right click and choose Delete to the one on the left, nothing happens.
If I right click and choose Delete to the one on the right, it deletes, but it reappears after a Reboot.
I only want one icon. How can I achieve this?
I use start 8 on both my windows 8.1 desktop and my tablet. My internet speeds were okay, but I wanted more. Based on the speed tests that I ran, it appeared to me that I was on Comcast's performance starter getting download speeds of 7.37mbps and uploads of 15.65. So I called Comcast to see about an upgrade. The tech that I spoke with stated that I already had the faster that they offer. He asked me how many icons did I have near the start button, I had 5, he told me to unpin them from the taskbar and my speeds went to DL - 57.48, the upload stayed pretty much the same 15.64.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm having this problem with a new PC (HP) that has a resolution of (1920x1080)
I installed chrome and when i opened it up, it was blurry. I was able to read what's on the screen but it really irritated me.
After googling the problem, i found out that the problem was with the option of disabling the display scaling on high DPI settings from Compatibility in the properties of Chrome.
Doing that did clear the screen but the websites and text were too small.
What can i do to keep the big text but get rid of the blur?
I have a new HP Envy and there are 2 users. We have set up a start screen each with websites saved. When we access these one users text is too small to read but it can be enlarged each time it is accessed, the other users sc reen is too large and it cannot be made smaller. I want both users to have normal sized text and I want it to be fixed soi that it will not change.
