I accidentally leaned on my keyboard and mouse and now all my Windows icons, title bars and context menus are too big and everything else such as icons and text within programs are too small. I'm running Windows 8.1 in Desktop mode on a laptop with external keyboard, mouse & monitor.

Out of nowhere my charm bars will disappear and even the right-click on the windows symbol on the bottom left corner doesn't work anymore. I then have to ctrl+alt+del and sign out then sign in again then things magically go back to normal.

View 1 Replies View RelatedFor some reason, the disk space usage bars in 'My Computer' are missing. Although they should be visible in 'tile view', I can only see the drive icons, not the bars. Interestingly, When I open a file in e.g. Word I can see the bars in the open file dialog (also in 'tile view'). I've already tried resetting the folder view settings, but without any luck.

Initially the title bar was shown, for a few days, but now it has disappeared, so I can't drag the window. I recently installed Windows 8 so I've been personalizing it (and trying to learn it!!), and likely set something to open the screen in that fashion, but I can't find a setting where the title bar is shown. View 7 Replies View RelatedWell I have been having issues with my monitor. I had a Toshiba laptop I had hooked up to my monitor, everything worked great. It then crashed, I got a new Dell with Windows 8 64bit and Intel graphics. I have an HDMI to VGA adapter cause my laptop doesn't have a VGA port and monitor doesn't have HDMI. So I hook it up and get it to work but "Input Not Supported" was floating around the screen.
So I changed the resolution. The only resolution that makes the "Input Not Supported" to go away is 1600X200. Well its clear picture but I have the annoying black bars on the side of my screen. I have looked around and everyone says to go to the CCC but I can't find it on here and from what I understand that is for AMD only(if I'm mistaken how to make it work cause I have attempted it). So is there an Intel version or how do I fix it?
I've got some dvd's that have multiple titles on one disk. On Windows Media Player on win 7 I used to be able to get to a list that showed the Titles on the disk, and let me select the one I wanted. How is this done in Windows Media Center?

View 1 Replies View RelatedEver since I switch to windows 8.1, I usually get random black bars in chrome when i switch to other apps. The black bars goes away when I move my mouse over it. This doesn't happen on windows 8 or windows 7. I have HD 6970 gpu and the latest video card driver.
Also, I notice that in windows 7 and win 8, when i right click the chrome icon on the task bar, it would have options like new window and new incognito window, but in window 8.1 it's gone.
I'm having this problem with a new PC (HP) that has a resolution of (1920x1080)
I installed chrome and when i opened it up, it was blurry. I was able to read what's on the screen but it really irritated me.
After googling the problem, i found out that the problem was with the option of disabling the display scaling on high DPI settings from Compatibility in the properties of Chrome.
Doing that did clear the screen but the websites and text were too small.
What can i do to keep the big text but get rid of the blur?
I have a new HP Envy and there are 2 users. We have set up a start screen each with websites saved. When we access these one users text is too small to read but it can be enlarged each time it is accessed, the other users sc reen is too large and it cannot be made smaller. I want both users to have normal sized text and I want it to be fixed soi that it will not change.

I noticed today a strange entry in my startup list. I often check to see what is there just incase there is something I don't need starting up with the system and can disable.
Today I noticed an entry called "Start.vbs" in a folder called "EUESU" in my Users directory [C:Usersmyconputername ]. I saw this via CCleaner - Tools - Startup tab and under the published column it is BLANK.
This is an absolute CLASSIC example of a TOTALLY BOVINE use of Metro - replacing the old accessories==>calculator by the Metro Calculator.
The wretched thing works Totally in Full screen -- what use is that to Man or Beast - especially if you have a Form or some text (not spread sheets) on your screen and you need to refer to them for your calculations.. What you need is a POPUP calculator that they had from the first versions of Windows 3 until Windows 7.
The calculator could also be useful as a popup on TOUCH screens too if you need it - but the stupid full screen thing -- totally useless.
I as actually quite surprised when I searched calculator and it operated like that. - Normally I use a nice calculator app on my mobile phone - but the battery is empty so I need the computer !!!. how to you take a screenshot of a small area on the screen.
I got my laptop repaired lately, the problem with it was that the screen was broken... before I put my laptop in for repair I had it connected to a external monitor so I could continue using my computer
As the title suggests on receiving my fixed computer, my laptop is running a lower resolution than supposed to. It is displaying 1366x 768 with the error message "Your resolution is lower than 1280 x 960. Some items might not fit on your screen" with no choice to increase said resolution.
This was the resolution I previously had while my laptop monitor was working... I assume this is to do with the external monitor I had it set up on but I no longer have that monitor.
Is there a way to somehow reset my graphics to recognize the correct resolution?

Recently I've encountered a problem whilst trying to clean up my HDD (it was filling up way too quickly and I wanted to get rid of some unwanted games/programs), and I noticed a problem with file sizes of even small programs.
For a start, I am a massive FSX simmer, so that's why there's so many FSX addons in my screenshots.
Anyway, I use "iOBit System Care 6 Ultimate" to clean up my laptop, and I was trying to use the inbuilt uninstaller to get rid of some programs. This is what happened:
Now, I know that all those programs DO NOT take up that much HDD space, considering the hard drive in this laptop is currently only 500GB. I can almost guarantee those programs DO NOT take up those huge amounts because 1: They are reasonably small addons and 2: Because on my old laptop, they never took up that much space.
So I also tried Revo Uninstaller, and this was the result:
Now, notice the top result? The "Carenado Cessna Skylane HD Series FSX"? Well, that's DEFINITELY not 50GB, that's 100% wrong in all fronts. I took a screenshot to prove so:
Yeah, that's TOTALLY 50GB right there
So, last but not least, here's my HDD space/free space:
Note that only the "Windows C: and Recovery Drive F:" are part of the HDD, the other partitions are part of my external 1TB HDD.
Weirdest part is that, the files DON'T take up that much space when I right click - properties in Windows Explorer. Now, I'm not sure what's the go but it's definitely odd. I can't get legitimate sizes from neither Revo or iOBit, and it's really annoying.
Also, programs like "Alan Wake" and "Adobe Master Collection Creative Suite 6" show up as the normal file size, yet ANY Flight Simulator X addon shows up as a huge amount?
I used to connect my Asus X72JR on my Flatscreen TV at 1080p, it always had a crispy sharp image.
After replacing my harddrive and reinstalling Windows 7 (64x) the image wasn't displayed in full size of my TV anymore but smaller (black edges around image) When i set my TV to full screensize everything gets blurry (it just spreads the image)
I updated to the latest graphic driver and looked at the screens resolution which was still set at 1920x1080 (recommended), everything was correct but the screen is either blurry or displayed smaller than the tv screen.

I have a second laptop, when I connect this to the TV is has a sharp image again even though the settings are exactly the same.
I am using Windows 8, and Cyberlink's Power2Go 7 Deluxe puts a small dialog box "drag any file here to make a data disc" onto my Desktop. How can I get rid of this without uninstalling Power2Go? (The same thing happens with Power2Go 9 trial version.)

I've got a 1680x1050 monitor and when there's 10 medium sized tiles across the screen, it activates the scroll bar, but there's no need for the scroll bar as all the tiles fit on the screen fine and scrolling only shifts them by a few pixels.

Ahead of a small library email migration to our own email (hosted by MS Office 365 + network domain), I am experimenting with importing pst files. Some users have Windows 8, some Windows 7. Most users will access email through the Office 365 web portal but for users with their own desktop setups it would be nice to configure their email at their own computers. Testing revealed, no surprise, a problem with Windows 8. I configured my own Outlook with 365 email after logging in to network. Emails came in. Great. Logged out of the network, logged in as another employee, tried to repeat the process and ran headlong into the "Switch to a Microsoft account on this PC." I don't want to do this.
The reason I logged in as another user is I will be responsible for importing pst files from the old email service hosted by a larger library system of which we are a part. My understanding is to do this I need a desktop install of Outlook (not available through the web app).
Question: Is there a way around the Switch to a Microsoft Account bit because now I can't even get back to my own Outlook email that was successful in the beginning?
I have just bought an AIO Asus desktop with 1 Tb of storage. The c: (Windows)drive is allocated 100gb and the d: drive 931gb. I just want to transfer all the data from my old computer. This was pretty much all in the folder c:>Users>Myname, but when I try to transfer it all into the same folder on the new computer, obviously with 100gb there is not enough space.
View 2 Replies View RelatedAfter recently installing stardock suite with icon manager, i decided to uninstall the program and go back to just using rainmeter. After doing so, it seems like all my icons (programs and windows defaults) are one icon and corrupt.
Ive already done the following:
installed icon manager and restored windows defaults with no luck
rebuilt windows icon cache and thumb cache with no luck
restarted explorer.exe
This is frustrating to say the least and i really dont know why these methods dont work..
using windows 8.1 x64
