Unable To Change Folder And Files Permission - Not Display Current Owner
Jul 14, 2013I am unable to change any permission for any folder . every option that supposed to be available for setting the permission is gray out!! , for some of my files I see the owner is "unable to display the current owner". The problem is the same for every single folder and file. I checked other systems (friends laptops and desktops) and they are working just fine ! but I am just unable to modify any permission for any folder or file !! even I tried to change the owner but it didn't worked !

Aug 1, 2014Is it possible to sort a folder's contents with both File names and Sub-Folder names intermixed? I have projects in sub-folders, and 'support' files like this:
projabc (sub-folder)
projabc.txt (file)
projabc.bat (file)
amongst other projects. I would like all the 'projabc...' items to appear together.

I have a pretty big music folder with multiple folders. I want to sort them by Bit rates and other things. But I have so many folders I have to go into and add this new option into the sort by.
Is it possible to add the option below to the select-able options on right click?

I have different types of view settings for different folders but everytime I restart my computer they change. Same thing with thumbnails expect they seem to last a couple days before disappearing, sometimes a thumbnail will appear on a different folder then it was set to.
Explorer Forgets Sort Order?
Feb 15, 2014I have many folders (with a couple of thousand files) configured to display sorted by date. When using software and needing to open a file from within the program, it opens what looks like an Explorer window. However, the sort order is always by name initially and it takes a minute or so to suddenly display in the correct sort order as specified in Windows itself.
If I repeat this a few minutes later it goes through the routine all over again!
Running explorer from Windows 8 itself is no problem, it remembers the sort order. Is there a way to make third party software that calls up an explorer window do the same please?
Incidentally having given up on the truly slow and clumsy windows search function, I installed Search Everything and it is instant and reliable. Why can't Microsoft Search be like that?
How To Set Sort Settings For Individual Folders
Feb 25, 2013I would like to sort the files in a particular folder by, say, date modified, but NOT have this setting applied to other folders in my computer. For example, I would want the files in the other folders to be sorted by name. However, I can't seem to be able to do this in Windows 8 - changing the sort settings for a particular folder applies it to every other folder.
Is there a way to customize the sort settings for individual folders without having it applied across the board? I recall being able to do it in Windows Vista/7, but can't seem to find the option in Windows 8.
Program Added To Startup Does NOT Show Up

Folders - No Columns To Sort Files In List View
Dec 7, 2012I much prefer the "list view" in my folders but I don't see way to add "columns" to list view. The only folder view showing these sort tabs is "details" view. Can anything be done about this?

Maintenance :: File History Not Backing Up Added Library
Sep 15, 2014File history seemed to be working OK. But then I added a library in Windows Explorer with my Google Drive folder. I don't have much stuff in this folder, less than 1GB. The problem is that File History is not backing up this folder in its backups.
Do I have to delete the file history backup and redo it again every time I add a library? (I haven't tried it but it'd be a nuisance wouldn't it?).
Added Free Windows Media Center But Nothing Shows Anywhere

Feb 16, 2014I originally installed Windows 8, then upgraded to 8.1. Two days ago I realized I had no DVD player, and purchased Media Player.
Now, everytime I start up - and occasionally while I'm working, I get a screen telling me to go to PC settings to activate windows. When I click on "PC Settings," It shows the last four digits of my product key, with a button to add another key, and says windows can not activate now, try again later.
1) Do I have to enter the product key for Media player
2) Why would it keep saying Windows can't activate?

Jun 15, 2013I foolishly upgraded to windows 8 last week having paid £99.00 for the privilege and not seen anything useful come out of it. Whilst I am chasing Microsoft for a refund, I don't expect them to be very obliging, irrespective of any consumer laws we have in this country, so the immediate problem I have is that I have also found in Adobe Lightroom 4 that all the existing images now have a yellow colour cast.
I have tried reinstalling various versions of drivers for the graphic adapter from various sources. All of this has had no effect so I am not sure what else I can do to correct this back to how it was.

When I click on the provided Flash icon, I am taken to a page showing me how to figure out why my Flash player is not working. I then find that my Win 8 operating system already has the current (as of 4 months ago, anyway) Flash player embedded somewhere in it.
how to make the Flash player work? Is there a special way to awaken it? Getting tired of being unable to make video content work.

Apps / Software :: (Winamp) Will Not Save Current Playlist On Windows 8 / 8.1
Mar 29, 2014I did a clean installation of Windows 8.1 a few months ago.Then I installed all my apps and manually migrated settings of all the software i use ( from a Windows 7 image ) . I also did this for Winamp .
Everything works 100% since the installation, but when using Winamp the ' current' playlist which the program automatically creates sporadically will not save!After opening a random number of times, the playlist disappeared spontaneously thus winamp was started with an empty playlist.
This means i can load my recursive playlist each time i start Winamp ( very frustrating with 50K + mp3's ).I can not think of any software that is installed on my PC which could affect this situation (I don't use a separate antivir. Just Windows Defender).
What I've done so far:
- Uninstalled Winamp. Removed the settings folder. Reinstalled Winamp.
- No additional plugins / addons or whatever installed for winamp .
- Double checked and forced the read-only flag on the winamp user data folder (to make sure the playlist can be saved/written).
The settings folder is in the following location : C:Users<username>AppDataRoamingWinamp
The current playlist is saved as : Winamp.m3u and Winamp.m3u8

Hard Drive Restore Error - Shows Wrong Capacity / Extra Files Added
Feb 2, 2013I recently installed a HD (WD25EZRX). it's been operating normally for about 2 days.
i was using my comp when i saw an alert that said something about a hard drive error and that my PC needed to be reset to fix it. so i reset the PC and saw another message saying something about restoring to a previous point. i wasn't really thinking and i clicked OK.
upon reset, i noticed the HD in question was now showing up as 1.36TB (it's a 2.5TB HD). it also has a bunch of files from another HD, which is odd.
i've used Error Checking under Tools of the HD's Properties, but the results showed no errors.
i'd like to regain the "lost" capacity w/o having to reformat my entire HD.

But yesterday when I tried to install it by a boot dvd, I faced a problem which's solution I couldn't find in google, when I press any key after the message appears(Press any key to boot from cd/dvd), the setup loads and my display goes black and shows a message "The current input timing isn't supported by the monitor display. change your input timing tp 1280x1024@60Hz or any other monitor listed timing as per the monitor applications."
I needed to restart the PC by the button in the CPU and couldn't install Windows.
Note : My monitor's manufacturer is Dell

Feb 11, 2014I have installed Win 8.1 on my PC. I have noticed the system changing after sometime to the next day and the time also changes to 12:00AM. When I go to Date and Time setting by clicking "Time and Language", I find the "Set Time Automatically" option disabled and it is set to "ON".
I think it is synchronising automatically from the internet time server. I have my time zone also correctly to my region.
Audio :: No Sound For About 5 Minutes - HDMI Audio In Some Sort Of Suspended Mode
Jan 9, 2014I have Windows 8.1 x64 and the following:
Radeon HD5450
Samsung TV connected via HDMI to graphics card
AMD HDMI High Definition Audio Device
Realtek HD audio
I have a strange problem that has not always been there but just recently if I don't have any sounds for about 5 minutes the HDMI audio seems to go into some sort of suspended mode and when I click on (generate) a sound (either system or music etc) it takes about 30 seconds for the sound to actually appear (manifest itself) through the Samsung TV speakers.
At first I thought it might be some conflict with the Realtek HD audio so I have disabled this (mobo built-in sound) in the BIOS and uninstalled the realtek drivers. This did not work.
I then thought it was probably an update to the Sound drivers or the graphics drivers for the ATI / AMD Sound card. I have installed the latest catalyst drivers and this did not work. I then fully uninstalled the catalyst drivers including the HDMI Audio and installed an earlier version 9.2.00 from 2012. This did not work either.
The only Playback Audio Device I have in the Sound settings is Digital Audio (HDMI) and I have tried disbling all audio enhancements. This did not work.
Please note that this happens even if I am using the computer (i.e. the screen can be on all of the time and it still happens after a few minutes).
Other things I have tried:
Power Config - disabled Link State Power Management for the PCIe card
One think I have observed (and I am not sure if this is a symptom or a cause) - The "Windows Audio Device Graph Isolation" process uses about 3-4% CPU while the 30 seconds or so elapses between the sound being invoked and it playing through the speakers. the rest of the sstem is relatively in idle. I can reproduce this by clicking on the sound and adjusting the volume a tad. It is meant to make an immediate "bing" sound to show the sound level is clicked or changed.
If I wait the 30 seconds then the sound eventually comes and then if I click on it again (or do other sound related things) then the sounds are instantaneous. Its only of I leave it 5 minutes or so with no sound activity. If I wait, say, 2 minutes the sound is instant too so long as their has been a sound event in the prior 5 minutes or so.
