This is quite annoying me for a long time, things like confirmation dialog box, file copy Window do not get in front most of the times, either its focus is lost or it pops up behind the current Window. The only way to see those boxes is to click them separately in task bar.

I then open up another 'Window B ' on top of Window A. When I close 'Window B', 'Window A' has lost its focus and I need to click back on it somewhere to regain it.

I don't want to disable the Charms bar, just the clock.
View 4 Replies View RelatedWhen I power on my computer (toshibba satellite) it comes to a screen that says RECOVERY: you need to use installation media. And I never thought of it to make a recovery disks. It is windows 8 and only a year old. Windows 8 actually cost more than this computer. Both toshiba and windows didn't know what it was doing. The screen has three options Press Enter for restart(tried it) Press F8 for boot options(didnt work) Press (I forget) for UEDI menu. (Something like that) I really need this computer because I edit videos and clips. I have a backup which is running windows xp but it's outdated and can't get Sony Vegas for it. I think on my broken computer a virus deleted my operating system.

I recently reinstalled Windows 8.1 and noticed this white box around a tile or setting when I hover over it. It's like accessiblity or something but I didn't change any settings than what I usually do. This has never happened on any older Installations before. I think it may have imported a setting from my Microsoft account but I'm not sure. How do I remove these "autofocus" selection borders from the Windows 8.1/8 tile screen?

When/if a full screen game or 3d stuff hangs up, on windows 7 you can open the task manager (by any means, ctrlshift esc, or ctrl alt sup, or alt tab and right click task bar)and end the process, but on windows 8 the games keeps some kind of lock on the desktop and i can't kill the process because i can't get focus on the task manager...
I can see the task bar, i can alt tab, and with alt tab i can see what's going on the rest of the windows, but i can't input anything on them, except on metro apps and start screen, so i can't access the task manager and kill the app.
When something like that happened on win 7, you could still open the task manager above the game and end it
I have to log off and log on in order to kill the application...
i have a variety of apps in the startup folder which is set to launch on startup. eventually, i'd like windows to focus on Chrome (specifically on the address bar) so that i can start using it right away.
i remember there's a command which could be added to the shortcut properties but can't recall.
I am having a issue with new windows 8.1, it was all working fine few days back then of a sudden some applications, like calendar, Bing Finance, Mail when clicked automatically minimizes on the taskbar. It looks like it has lost focus and is not working.
I understand there might be a third party application doing this and most probably it is the Dropbox that is doing this. However I have tried clean boot and system restart with safe mode, none of which has resolved this issue.
On the same system i have an another user account, this account has no such issues. Every application works and opens fine. I am not sure what went wrong in my primary admin account.
I have w.8.1 but I am unable to type letters as Windows live loses focus after about five key strokes.
Every open app loses focus after as short time, only way to get the focus back is to click the mouse in the app.
The cursor disappears and I cant type until I click on the mouse to regain the cursor..
Typing this request has taken a long time.
Have tried changing foreground time lockout to no avail.
I am looking into setting up a type 1, native hypervisor on my desktop (Xen, specifically). Would it be possible for me to load my current install into a VM? The hypervisor can be run from a live disk.

When I click on the provided Flash icon, I am taken to a page showing me how to figure out why my Flash player is not working. I then find that my Win 8 operating system already has the current (as of 4 months ago, anyway) Flash player embedded somewhere in it.
how to make the Flash player work? Is there a special way to awaken it? Getting tired of being unable to make video content work.
I did a clean installation of Windows 8.1 a few months ago.Then I installed all my apps and manually migrated settings of all the software i use ( from a Windows 7 image ) . I also did this for Winamp .
Everything works 100% since the installation, but when using Winamp the ' current' playlist which the program automatically creates sporadically will not save!After opening a random number of times, the playlist disappeared spontaneously thus winamp was started with an empty playlist.
This means i can load my recursive playlist each time i start Winamp ( very frustrating with 50K + mp3's ).I can not think of any software that is installed on my PC which could affect this situation (I don't use a separate antivir. Just Windows Defender).
What I've done so far:
- Uninstalled Winamp. Removed the settings folder. Reinstalled Winamp.
- No additional plugins / addons or whatever installed for winamp .
- Double checked and forced the read-only flag on the winamp user data folder (to make sure the playlist can be saved/written).
The settings folder is in the following location : C:Users<username>AppDataRoamingWinamp
The current playlist is saved as : Winamp.m3u and Winamp.m3u8
On my laptop I have my microsoft account and everything set up and I have just started online schooling but when I go to the campus every few weeks i cant use their internet because i dont have a computer on their domain thing and I want to be able to join their domain but don't want it to affect my current setup.
So if i connect to their domain will it modify my current account or give them access to my current accounts files???
I only get a buzzing noise out of my speakers when I play music. Otherwise I get nothing. Under device Manager it says;

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am unable to change any permission for any folder . every option that supposed to be available for setting the permission is gray out!! , for some of my files I see the owner is "unable to display the current owner". The problem is the same for every single folder and file. I checked other systems (friends laptops and desktops) and they are working just fine ! but I am just unable to modify any permission for any folder or file !! even I tried to change the owner but it didn't worked !
View 2 Replies View RelatedNormally, I'm used to install Windows 8.1 by running setup.exe from Windows Explorer(not by boot DVD/Flash Drive). But yesterday when I tried to install it by a boot dvd, I faced a problem which's solution I couldn't find in google, when I press any key after the message appears(Press any key to boot from cd/dvd), the setup loads and my display goes black and shows a message "The current input timing isn't supported by the monitor display. change your input timing tp 1280x1024@60Hz or any other monitor listed timing as per the monitor applications."
I needed to restart the PC by the button in the CPU and couldn't install Windows.
Note : My monitor's manufacturer is Dell
In w 8.1 If I open an app within seconds it loses focus. It makes it very difficult to type ie in e mail, the only way to get focus is to left click the mouse within the app and the cursor comes back for a few letters then the cursor disapears again. So any time I make an app active it becomes inactive quickly. To make it active again I have to click on it with my mouse.

I honestly don't know if I would be running two instances. Would it work if I deleted the C:/ partition and booted the VHD from another disk or partition? Would that be OK? Seems to me it would be two instances but I don't know.
I'm not interested in VMware or VirtualBox - just Hyper-V or some similar bare metal solution. Hyper-V server I could not make work really - it is not what it is designed for - I want wifi, bluetooth etc. Windows server would work but I can not afford it.
I am running Windows 8.1 and IE 11. When I have multiple tabs open and click the X in the upper right hand corner I get an option that asks me if I want to CLOSE ALL TABS - CLOSE CURRENT TAB. I always want to close just one tab. How can I suppress the display of the Close All Tabs - Close Current Tab question and still be able to close just one tab?

View 11 Replies View RelatedI downloaded and installed Windows 8 Pro several months ago (a year ago?). I used it for several months and was reasonably satisfied with it. But LogMeIn ws not compatible with Windows 8 at the time, so I uninstalled it and returned to Win7.
Since the time I uninstalled Windows 8, the external HD that the setup files were stored on crapped out and I lost everything on it. I do have the activation code. My question is whether or not I can re-acquire a genuine copy of Windows 8 without having to purchase another copy of Windows 8 Pro?
I install new os my new laptop that had windows 8. I lost windows 8 in the installation process. I got all the docs came the laptop. Is there anyway to get windows 8 back?
View 9 Replies View RelatedLong ago when using 7 early on I botched up trying to remove an Acer OEM partition to no avail only to be left missing roughly 65GBs of my hard drive and not being able to see the partition. Luckily I didn't destroy the HD!
I found a nice little free utility that Brink introduced here: Partition - Recover Deleted Partitions in Windows that I ran and it was able to see the partition. Not only that partition, but a bunch of smaller ones. I couldn't believe my eyes when I came to look at this after it was finished scanning!
Below is the results of the scan. The first one listed (no label) is my Windows 8 Pro partition. The one labled 8.1 is obviosly my 8.1 RP that I dual boot. The one with the checkmark with no label I'm guessing is the Acer partition. As you can see Windows Disk Management does not see any other partitions other than 8 and 8.1.
If at all possible, what do I need to do to correct this? I'd like not to touch my 8 partition because of Office, but I will if I need to. 8.1 is just a preview. What are all those smaller ones? What does overlapped mean?
