Setup Installation :: Windows 8 - Current Input Timing Isn't Supported By Monitor Display?
Jul 6, 2014
Normally, I'm used to install Windows 8.1 by running setup.exe from Windows Explorer(not by boot DVD/Flash Drive). But yesterday when I tried to install it by a boot dvd, I faced a problem which's solution I couldn't find in google, when I press any key after the message appears(Press any key to boot from cd/dvd), the setup loads and my display goes black and shows a message "The current input timing isn't supported by the monitor display. change your input timing tp 1280x1024@60Hz or any other monitor listed timing as per the monitor applications."
I needed to restart the PC by the button in the CPU and couldn't install Windows.
Note : My monitor's manufacturer is Dell

I have tried a few multiple monitor software packages (settled on UltraMon) and have done some Googling. I am trying to find a keyboard shortcut/hotkey that will move my browser's CURRENT TAB ONLY between monitors. I know I can drag it, but a shortcut key would be so much better.

So I'm running 2xR9 290X (crossfire) with 3xQnix Qx2710 monitors. One of the qnix monitors was purchased with HDMI/DisplayPort connectors along with the usual DVI connector (normally these monitors only come with the D-DVI input)
I had a 2 monitor (with just the two DVI-only monitors) setup for a while that was working fine.
Since installing the third monitor I'm experiencing several weird things:
- On boot, until the Windows login screen comes up (Windows 8.1), there is nothing on the non-primary DVI monitor (so my setup is my primary monitor is one of the two DVI monitors, and then the left and right monitors is another DVI-only and the DP monitor).
- If the monitors go to sleep, or I put the computer to sleep and wake it up, any windows that were on the non-primary DVI monitor are moved over to the primary DVI monitor. Windows on the DP monitor do not move in this configuration.
- Within CCC, after sleep / monitors off, I have to restart CCC's control of the color settings for the non-primary DVI monitor. (I'm forgetting what the actual button says, but it's the button under the Display color controls settings where you can manipulate the R/G/B channels - I have to use the GPU for color matching since the monitors don't have any inherent ways to change R/G/B levels
If I only connect the two DVI monitors this is not an issue.
If I connect one DVI and the DP monitor, after sleep/wake any windows that were on the DP monitor are moved over to the primary monitor (again, note that this didn't happen when all 3 monitors were connected).
I have tried the newest version of CCC, as well as the current beta version - same behavior in both.
I have tried using HDMI instead of DP - same behavior
Aspects of this sound similar to the issues discussed in this post : [URL] ......
What I don't understand is why the second DVI monitor is acting so oddly when all 3 monitors are connected. Why would there be no picture when the computer boots?

During the installation stages of windows 8, I choose English language and US as keyboard input method. But after few weeks later, I bought a new British style keyboard and in control panel I replaced US method with English (United Kingdom). While I'm logged into the operating system the input method works correctly, but after every shutdown on a next user log in when I'm writing my password it's still English US method that not corespondent with the keys on the keyboard. This not happening if I put the system in sleep mode.

I am running Windows 8.1 and IE 11. When I have multiple tabs open and click the X in the upper right hand corner I get an option that asks me if I want to CLOSE ALL TABS - CLOSE CURRENT TAB. I always want to close just one tab. How can I suppress the display of the Close All Tabs - Close Current Tab question and still be able to close just one tab?

I recently received a second monitor for the use of a secondary monitor, but it has a VGA port and no DVI port. This was an issue because my graphics card (NVIDIA GeForce GTX 760) does not have a VGA port.
I purchased a DVI-D to VGA adapter (turns out it was a 5-pack) and it is not detecting it.

I just bought a used HP Pavilion p7-1423w from a computer store locally. It ran fine in the store and when I got it home. It did not come with any recovery disc. After poking around (first time Windows 8 user also), I noticed a bunch of porn pics and thumbnails that were obviously from the previous owner. I selected the "reset the pc, erase all his personal files, and re-install Windows" option. After clicking the final "reset" button to begin the process, I left the room. I came back 30 mins later and my display was off. I thought it went to sleep or screen saver. I moved the mouse, hit a few keys, and still no display at all, as if there was no cable attached. I decided to wait another hour, and still no display.
I changed to the other dvi port, still nothing. Finally, I hard booted and restarted. Still no display at all. No splash screens, no errors screens, nothing at all. Just my tv saying "no input". I removed the hard drive and hooked it up as an external to my laptop. It shows Recovery folder-> WindowsRE folder-> winre.wim (unknown file type).

Windows 8 device (Dell XPS 12 i7 running Windows 8.1 Pro). I like the touch input when it is flat in tablet mode, but when I plug a USB mouse into it when I am at my desk, I want the mouse inputs to be treated exactly like finger inputs on the touch screen. For example, scrolling by touching/clicking anywhere in a window or the ability to flick things using my mouse like I can with my finger. Simply using the mouse makes everything behave like it did in Windows 7: Clicking and dragging selects things instead of scrolling in Office 2013. I don't want this, I want it behave like Android does when I plug a mouse into it: Just like a finger was there.
I have looked everywhere for such a setting, but I cannot find one. How can I achieve this? I want all mouse inputs to be treated exactly like touch inputs.

I have two monitors and when I boot up my computer the UEFI splash screen appears on my smaller second monitor, rather than on the main monitor where I want it, but the login screen appears on the main monitor. As I normally only switch the second monitor on when I want to put something on it to avoid obscuring what is on my main monitor this is rather irritating.
I am assuming that the reason for this problem is that my main monitor has an identity number 2 and the secondary monitor is numbered 1.
My setup is :-
Windows 8.1, 64 bit;
Asus RAIDR Express PCIe SSD;
Asus GT630-SL-2GD3-L GPU;
Asus SABERTOOTH Z97 MARK 1 Motherboard, BIOS version 0602;
Processor Intel i7-4770S @3.1 GHz;
Kingston Technology XMP Beast Series 32GB 2400MHz DDR3 Memory.
Monitors :-
iiyama Prolite XB2776QS, (27 inch);
Dell u2412m, (24 inch).
I have tried uninstalling the drivers for the Dell monitor and rebooting the computer but it still comes back with an identity number of 1. There is nothing in the Nvidia control centre to enable me to swap the numbers. Is there any way of swapping the identity numbers over?
The iiyama is connected from the DVI port to the DVI port on the graphics card, the Dell connects from a DVI port to the HDMI port on the graphics card.

I tried a clean install on my system which has a Gainward GT430 (nVidia GT430) 1GB display adapter. What happens is that soon after booting from the DVD the display becomes corrupted (blurred and difficult to read) and I can only barely make on what's on the screen and proceed with the installation.
After the point where I format my drive, windows looks like its installing but after the reboot the display goes to sleep, and I have to start over.
On the same system installing Windows 7 had no issues whatsoever. Installed fine with nearly all the drivers available natively to windows. I was installing Windows 8 64 bit using original media.

I am having an issue where, with my laptop lid closed because I use my monitor, when I reboot my laptop it never actually comes back on. If I remember to open the lid in advance, there is no issue.
I have my settings set that when my laptop lid is closed, nothing happens.

I have hidden all of the foreign language fonts that are Windows 8.1 system fonts. However, the hidden fonts continue to display in Office 2010, Adobe Creative Cloud and Corel Draw X6, as well as other programs and applications.
How do I prevent the fonts from displaying or better -- which ones can be deleted? Surely Windows will function in the U.S. without a Himalayan font loaded.
I've tried using a third party font manager, both NexusFont and Bitstream Font Navigator, but with no improved results.

I use a Logitech k400 Wireless keyboard with a built in trackpad. It's great in theory, but the implementation has a few flaws:
The keys are small, and the trackpad is worthless, especially with Windows 8.
I've been trying to find an alternative, but the only one I found is using apple inputsw and something called a "Magic wand" which connects the two:
Here's what I'm thinking of doing:
Buy a Logitech Wireless Rechargeable Touchpad T650
Buy a Logitech Wireless Illuminated Keyboard K800
Buy a board slightly bigger than the footprint of both of these devices, and a bunch of velcro.
You can guess the rest.

I am on a laptop with a gtx 765m. I am trying to connect a thunderbolt port to a display port monitor. My understanding is that thunderbolt is backwards compatible with display port. But, for the life of me I can not get it to work.
I am using a minidisplay port -> display port cord.
I have ended up hooking the monitor up with an hdmi cord for now. FYI the monitor is a 2560x1440 monitor if that matters.

In a few weeks (I can't wait! ) I will replace my laptop with the Surface Pro.
Right now, though, I have my laptop connected to two monitors: One via VGA and other via DVI. I'm running Windows 8 Pro x64, so this all works great.
So the big question is whether it is possible to have multi-monitor support via the one-and-only DisplayPort that is on the Surface Pro? If so, what--if any--additional hardware would I need?
When I'm docked at home and using my Surface Pro as laptop, I really need to keep the functionality of using both external monitors (one is 31" and the other 29"). I would really hate to go back to only being able to use one.

I recently broke the screen to my asus n56vz. I ended up removing the whole top panel and removing the inverter cord.
I plugged in a external monitor and it worked fine at first. When i restarted i noticed that it starting running hotter and displayed a second option on a 768p monitor. My 1080 aoc was made the main display seen though its not the first monitor its second.
I tried to delete or disable the second monitor but i could not. What should i do?
I used to have 33c temps idle and not its 50c. It used to display only the external monitor. Now it displays 2 and the 2 is my main.
I dont have any recovery or 8.1 disks... I tried a refresh and it said "missing files" so i cant even do that...

I've attached the logs below:

I was happy to discover that Windows 8 came with a program to automatically back up our files to our external HD, but it frustrates me that I cannot specify a time for that to happen. Daily is more than frequent enough for us, but we don't keep our computer on 24/7. If we did, does file history still run even though the computer is in 'sleep' mode?
So is it possible to specify a time somewhere I'm not seeing? Or is the answer to just do more frequent backups and hope that one of them will fall within the window that the computer happens to be on?

The problem is that either Windows 8 or Windows 8.1 (just updated it) can connect to any internet shared through any mobile devices (iPhone5 & iPhone 5s), but I can connect to any other wireless networks. I have tried to connect to this iOS shared network through Win7 (Other pc) and it connects successfully without any problems. The actual iOS networks shows up in Network List, but just can't connect to it and keeps timing out.

I get the following errors when running the all versions of Angry Birds on Windows 8 DESKTOP, These are the Desktop Version of Angry Birds and not the Metro Version
They run perfectly fine on Windows 7 but not so on Windows 8
Angry Birds/Rio/Space/Star Wars all give the same error:
OpenGL 2.0 renderer not supported! Reason:
OpenGL 2.0 is not supported
OpenGL 1.4 renderer not supported! Reason:
OpenGL 1.3 is not supported
I know that there are metro versions of Space and Star Wars available but still can't I run the Desktop versions?
Bad Piggies is working absolutely fine. Is there any way I can run them on Windows 8 Desktop Mode?

I have my Windows 8.1 setup so the display turns off in 1 minute.
I have the power options setup so that the power switch shuts the system down.
But it doesn't. If the screen is off and I press the power switch on my PC the screen comes back on. I then need to press the power switch a second time for the computer to power down.
Is there anyway to configure Windows 8.1 so that the power switch does not turn the display back on, but just immediately shuts the system down?

I remotely support a couple of relatives using Team Viewer, and am able (and do) to sometimes go into their systems to carry out updates without them being there.
I would like to leave a sticky note of some sort on their Windows 8.1 start screens after I have been there to tell them what I have done. I would like them to easily delete the note once it has been read. Is this possible on the start screen, or is the way that it works unsuitable for this sort of thing?
Any simple application that can do this? I have looked on the web for suitable applications, but those that I have found seem unsuitable for one reason or another.

When I try to play any kind of video, even an ecard, I see a message that I need to get the latest Flash player version. When I click on the provided Flash icon, I am taken to a page showing me how to figure out why my Flash player is not working. I then find that my Win 8 operating system already has the current (as of 4 months ago, anyway) Flash player embedded somewhere in it.
how to make the Flash player work? Is there a special way to awaken it? Getting tired of being unable to make video content work.
