I have a query wrt adding of a program to Win 8 startup.
I went to %APPDATA%MicrosoftWindowsStart MenuProgramsStartup and copied the shortcut of the prog there, still it does not show up in my system tray when I start my Win 8.
I have been trying to add a .exe file to my Startup files. But for some reason the file does not run at the start up.Take a look at the screenshot to see the setup. cW8oETE.png
The paths which I did use are:
C:UsersDyonAppDataRoamingMicrosoftWindowsSt art MenuProgramsStartup
C:ProgramDataMicrosoftWindowsStart MenuProgramsStartup
Is there another way to add files to the Windows 8.1 Startup files? I have done some research on Google but did not find anything.I have also tried adding a key to the register which did not work either.For the registery I have used both using the direct .exe and the .lnk file. wYMGhdU.png
See in the picture below , the program and features in control panel does not show all of my programs. It worked good in last week.i have about 30 programs but it show 16!!
View 5 Replies View RelatedI power my computer on and seems to startup fine and gets to the loading screen for windows. Then when its get to the screen where its suppose to sow the lock screen its just black. I can here the windows startup sound and can see my mouse and move it around but can't do anything. I have been trying to find a solution for the past couple days but can't get to much due to time restrictions. Deployed right now so I'm kinda limited on what resources I can use and instead of dicking around with this problem id just use my time to skype family and friends. I usually like to solve to computer problem myself for the know how but don't have the time.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm using Windows 8.1 x64, and I'm unable to set a task or program at windows startup. I've tried everything:
A. Task Scheduler
B. Shortcut to "Programs/startup"
C. Set the program itself in its options (this method works with some programs, but not everyone, and of course, not every program has an option to start whith Windows)
D. Run as administrator, propieties and give permissions, privileges... etc
Nothing happens. I've checked in the Task Manager tab STARTUP for the programs I set up, and they are all there, in that list. But they never run. What can I do?
In Windows XP it was as easy as add a simple shorcut to the "Progams/Startup" folder. Now it seems to be impossible.
I have three Autohotkey exe files in my appdata Startup folder of my laptop but they do not get started when Windows starts. Those same three files on my desktop in the same place start and run just fine. Each machine has the same version of Windows 8, Home Premium 64 build 9200.
If I open the Startup folder and click on any one of the files they start and run just fine.
In the registry for the desktop those three files appear in startup folder but not in laptop. Am almost sure that is the problem but don't have a clue what to do about it.
On both machines, Yankee Clipper III runs at start without me having to put it in either of my appdata Startup folders. I guess the installer took care of it for me.
I have been trying to remove a blank startup item, but it seems like there is no valid location for it. I have searched in all the locations listed below without any luck. Could there be another location or could it be a virus?

I'm trying to make a certain program (a game, actually) to run as soon as I boot the computer. So, I don't want to click on anything to make it run, just press the power button on the pc, boot and the program should then automatically start.
I thought this was easily done by placing the shortcut in the startup folder, yet it doesn't appear to do anything. When I go to task manager and check the startup programs the program I added is there, yet it doesn't start.
There's nothing wrong with the program itself cause it works just fine when I click the shortcut... But I still have to click it.
I want my computer to automatically run a program (bat file) at startup only after my Internet connection is completely connected. How do I do it?

View 5 Replies View RelatedFile history seemed to be working OK. But then I added a library in Windows Explorer with my Google Drive folder. I don't have much stuff in this folder, less than 1GB. The problem is that File History is not backing up this folder in its backups.
Do I have to delete the file history backup and redo it again every time I add a library? (I haven't tried it but it'd be a nuisance wouldn't it?).
I used Add Features to add free Windows Media Center. After reboot there is no indication of it anywhere. Nothing in Start menu or control panel.
I use Ex7ForW8 to get a Win 7 style desktop and start menu. Is this a Metro/modern only app?
I have just got windows 8 and I have 220 pictures in 'My pictures' folder. Only 117 are showing. I think i added the rest at later date and for some reason when i access the pictures gallery feature on windows 8 i cannot see the newly added pics.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI originally installed Windows 8, then upgraded to 8.1. Two days ago I realized I had no DVD player, and purchased Media Player.
Now, everytime I start up - and occasionally while I'm working, I get a screen telling me to go to PC settings to activate windows. When I click on "PC Settings," It shows the last four digits of my product key, with a button to add another key, and says windows can not activate now, try again later.
1) Do I have to enter the product key for Media player
2) Why would it keep saying Windows can't activate?
I foolishly upgraded to windows 8 last week having paid £99.00 for the privilege and not seen anything useful come out of it. Whilst I am chasing Microsoft for a refund, I don't expect them to be very obliging, irrespective of any consumer laws we have in this country, so the immediate problem I have is that I have also found in Adobe Lightroom 4 that all the existing images now have a yellow colour cast.
I have tried reinstalling various versions of drivers for the graphic adapter from various sources. All of this has had no effect so I am not sure what else I can do to correct this back to how it was.
I am running a Win 7 OS on an SSD and I have some programs installed on a different hard drive. And I want to move this program files folder on the same hard drive but different partition. Is it possible to do this without breaking the program links?

The favorites list in the menu bar can't be scrolled with the mouse wheel, so that's out, and pinning the Favorites Center would be too intrusive.
I recently installed a HD (WD25EZRX). it's been operating normally for about 2 days.
i was using my comp when i saw an alert that said something about a hard drive error and that my PC needed to be reset to fix it. so i reset the PC and saw another message saying something about restoring to a previous point. i wasn't really thinking and i clicked OK.
upon reset, i noticed the HD in question was now showing up as 1.36TB (it's a 2.5TB HD). it also has a bunch of files from another HD, which is odd.
i've used Error Checking under Tools of the HD's Properties, but the results showed no errors.
i'd like to regain the "lost" capacity w/o having to reformat my entire HD.

When I Right click on an icon & select Sendto the MS Photo Editor does not show up although I put it there in "...Roaming.....Windows Sendto"
Also I deleted "Floppy drive A" in "...Roaming.....Windows Sendto" but, it still shows when I Right click on an icon & select Sendto.
I need to see my thumbnails. 99% of my files are Photoshops and I need to see them, not the PS icon. I can only find "Show Icons Oly - Not Thumbnails" in my advanced folder settings. How do I do the opposite. Show all thumbnails - not icons?

They all work no problem on my netbook with Win 7 installed. Here is the pic about problem: [URL] ....
As you can see, they wont show up but they are recognized...:/
I tried reformatting them on netbook, still nothing. And tried allocating them drive letters and formatting them but error shown in pic above pops up ....
Out of those 3 USBs 2 are the same (same model)! But 1 works and other doesn't...
My laptop is top of the range spec one with Core i7, 8GB RAM, Dedicated GPU, every thing else work super fast, i am very annoyed by this one problem which i have been observing When ever i create a new folder/file or download a new file or rename a new file it does not immediately show up, if i try to open the renamed file it says windows cannot find that file (because its actually been renamed but does not yet show up in the folder), Every time i have to press F5 to refresh the folder or the desktop so the computer refreshes and shows the changes made (i.e new folder, renamed folder, new file etc...)
Is there a way so computer immediately shows the change rather than me having to close and open that folder or refresh the page every time i rename or create a file ?

I just installed Windows 8 Pro on my HP Pavillion with an AMD A8-3500M APU with Radeon HD Graphics, CPU 1.5GHz, 8G Ram, 64bit operating sys, I have a Toshiba Ext HDD only about 2 months old 1.5TB that worked just fine with Windows 7 Home Premium. but since I have installed Win 8 Pro my Device mgr sees it, but it doesn't show up in my list of drives on my file page. Also my Logitech unifying receiver is not recognized and I updated to the Win 8 driver.
