Hardware Drivers :: Win 8 Won't Show Up USB Drive
Jun 3, 2014
2 out of 3 USBs worked on Win 7 on same PC but wont after installing Win 8.
They all work no problem on my netbook with Win 7 installed. Here is the pic about problem: [URL] ....
As you can see, they wont show up but they are recognized...:/
I tried reformatting them on netbook, still nothing. And tried allocating them drive letters and formatting them but error shown in pic above pops up ....
Out of those 3 USBs 2 are the same (same model)! But 1 works and other doesn't...

Either with my startup today, or sometime in the last day or two, all my drives/partitions in Windows Explorer (and XYplorer) have lost their labels and are now showing as "Local Disk." Looking in Windows 8 Computer Management and EaseUs Partition Manager, the labels are there, as shown in the screenshot. I ran all three main repair modules of Yamicsoft Windows 8 Manager and there have been a few reboots, but still the same.

I am trying to import my contacts to the phone, which I gather can be done with a bluetooth connection via some sort of PIM that the bluetooth software recognizes. For the life of me I can't find any explicit reference to any particular PIM software that the Windows 8 bluetooth Properties dialog recognizes. Or, have I misunderstood the capabilities here? Do I have to buy and install Outlook?
I am unfortunately using Thunderbird as email & contact manager, but I've exported my contacts via .csv in the past so If I can find the appropriately compatible PIM for Windows 8 Bluetooth I think I can muddle through.

1 year ago I had a desktop PC with two HDD in it, one is 500GB,the other is 1TB. I bought the PC with only the 500GB HDD in it, but after buying the 1TB HDD, I always installed OSes in it. For many time I didn't get any problem, until I accidently swapped the plugs for the HDDs after I cleaned the cabinet. My Windows 7 wouldn't boot even though I had did "nothing". I realised my problem and just swapped it again and the problem was gone. After reading about it, I learned that it was caused because of the MBR, which was on the 500GB HDD. No problem till MY PC died and my family ran into money problem which prevented me from buying a new PC so I started using a netbook for everyday PC use. I had to trow out all my PC hardware, except for my two HDD which I kept safe in my wardrobe.
The thing is, I have all my precious music, games and stuff on those HDD, so, since I don't have the money to build a new PC, I instead bought a IDE/SATA to USB converter, which worked fine on the 500GB HDD. Problem is when I plug the 1TB HDD, which won't allow me to open the partitions (even though they show perfectly both on My Computer and on Computer Management). On Computer Management, they all show as RAW partitions, I don't know what to do. I know some programs will only recover files from they extensions, but I would like to have all my files untouched, the way they were, so I could back up important files on my netbook, and let the HDD alone waiting for the day that I can finally buy a new PC.

I have a Dell Inspiron 660 PC w/windows 8.1 no matter what I plug into the usb port I cannot find it on my computer. I hear the connect/disconnect sound, but can't find anything on the computer as to where it is at or how to open it. The device is a storage device with photos. It also does the same thing with my phone. I hear it, but nothing opens or comes up anywhere.

I installed windows 8 in HDD 1tb Seagate. Then I bought Corsair 240 SSD drive and fresh installed everything there. Now if I boot from SSD drive my Seagate won't show up and I have tried other cables I have 5 hard drives in my system. It shows up in boot menu but won't show up in Disk management or anywhere else.
Then I connected it to the USP port and disk shows up no problem. I would like to leave this copy in as a backup so I don't want to delete it. I can boot into these windows but then my Corsair SSD drive won't show up. Whats up here.

I have two drives which have exactly the same files on them. I have opened the drive and selected everything and gone properties. The sizes are the same.
If I then go to "This PC" it shows that 1 drive has used 50GB more than the other.
Here is a screenshot of the information I am seeing.
Is there a reason this would be?

I'm running windows 8.1 x64. When I insert a usb flash drive into my PC, it takes maybe over 2 minutes before windows "finds" it and has it appear in windows explorer. I have the latest BIOS for my motherboard and I don't think there are any specific usb drivers to install.

When I go to Computer Management my main (OS) drive shows as "Disk 1" and my 2nd internal data drive shows as "Disk 0". Should I switch the SATA cables so that the main drive will show as "Disk 0 and the 2nd internal drive as "Disk 1"?

I am trying to install a driver for the Epson perfection 1200U on my grandpa's new windows 8 PC. Problem is that the scanner is too old and epson doesnt provide a driver for this scanner for windows 8. But how to uncheck "show compatible hardware" in device manager when you are trying to update drivers on a specific device.
I get there by right clicking on the device, selecting properties, "browse my computer for driver software," then "let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer," then after that the window that appears does not have an option to uncheck "show compatible hardware." And so I can't continue

I have recently upgraded hardware on my desktop. The major change is that I installed a new Solid State Drive as my drive C:. I think I also read somewhere that these drives "don't like" being written on too much and that one needs to enable/disable certain OS features for such drives.
So I checked the properties for the drive C in Windows 8 and here's what I got:
As you see "Allow files on this drive to have contents indexed in addition to file properties" is checked.
Does it need to be checked for that drive?
And also, is there anything else that I need to change in the settings to accommodate for the SSD?

Since refreshing win 8 my DVD drive doesn't appear in 'computer' and doesn't boot from the win 8 disk. The green light on the drive flickers and you can hear the drive reading the disk.

I have windows 8.1 and am trying to do a refresh as I've had some problems. But I keep getting a message that says, "The drive where windows are installed is locked. Unlock the drive and try again." I then did a scan using "SFC/SCANNOW" When it was finished it said that it found some corrupt files but could not fix some of them. So the question is: What is a locked drive and how do you unlock it?

I want to partition my C Drive to install Ubuntu 14.04 so I can dual-boot with Windows 8.1. When I tried to shrink the volume it wouldn't let me got higher than 4GB even though its a 500GB drive and I have over 259GB free. From looking at it the drive seems to have a few recovery partitions one being just under 24GB. Does the number of drive partitions factor into the amount of space I can give to a partition. Also if the recovery partitions are factoring into this can I move them to another drive or just outright delete them.

I have just bought a 4TB external USB 3.0 hard drive. The plan is to copy all of the data from my current internal 2TB drive to the 4TB, then I'm going to crack the case of the external hard drive open, take the drive out, and put it in my PC to replace the 2TB drive that's in there now (which I know will void the warranty). This isn't going to be a boot drive as I have an SSD for that.
I had read that Windows does not support large drives of this size and that it would show up as 2 partitions, so I was prepared to convert the drive to GPT in order to have 1 large partition. However, I connected the drive up to my Windows 8.1 machine and it shows as 1 large partition of 3.63TB, which is about what I expected.
Does this mean I don't have to convert the drive after all? Can I do what I'm planning to do and everything will work fine? Or do I need to convert it to GPT before I copy all of my data over and if so, how do I do that exactly?

If I add a SSD (Crucial MX100 CT256MX100SSD1 2.5" 256GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive). Can I use it as the boot drive as well as the backup drive? Then use the existing 1TB HDD as the main storage drive. I need a backup drive so I figure if this works then it could give me a performance boost as well. How could this best be done to satisfy both needs? Would I put all the programs on the SSD and all the data on the HDD? My current drive is at 119GB used space. How do I determine how much back up space is needed?

I am unable to format drive D, It shows an error "Windows was unable to complete the format" even in disk management the format option is not click-able for drive D. I had windows 7 Installed in it, and later I installed windows 8.1 in drive C. right now I am using windows 8.1 and I have also deleted some important system files that were in drive D, so windows 7 is not usable, and I don't want to use it.

I have a TSST 208DN DVD drive installed in a Win 8 Pro Toshiba C855 machine. I am no longer able to use the drive.
The problem began with my always having to reinstall the drivers upon reboot. I found a solution, or so I thought, that advised me to delete my upper and lower filters entries in the registry. I only had an LowerFilters entry for AnyDVD. I deleted it and can no longer use the drive.
Dev Mgr shows drive with yellow excl. triangle (see image #1 below) and this msg under the general tab of properties - Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19) (see image #2 below). I have drivers from MS and Toshiba installed (see image #3 below)

I have already uninstalled and reinstalled and rebooted many, many times. These are my current registry entries:

I have uninstalled and reinstalled AnyDVD. I have put back in the LowerFilters key and deleted it and rebooted many, many times. The registry entries look like those on my other laptop with the exception of lowerfilters set to AnyDVD and upperfilters set to the manufacturer's driver (GEARaspiWDM) and that machine works just fine - for about 10 minutes and then overheats and shuts down - it's a Dell - but that's another story.

I have a Samsung 530U3C laptop with a 500 GB HDD and an internal 24 GB SanDisk SSD. For some reason, the SSD is suddenly invisible to my system. It does not show up in Disk Management, it does not show up in DiskPart and it does not show up in Device Manager. Nowhere to be seen.
The BIOS has never displayed the SSD drive, so I can't see it there either. I don't know if it's connected with SATA or PCIe. All I know is that it's built in somewhere, and I don't see it if I open the laptop case. I also know that it's not a HDD/SSD hybrid.
However, if I boot up from a recovery USB and start a command prompt, I am able to see the SSD drive in DiskPart. But if I do the same after booting the OS, it's not visible.
Here's some details:
I've installed ExpressCache and Intel Rapid Start Tech to work with the SSD. This is what I did to the SSD:
Cleaned the drive with DiskPartCreate partition msr size=6200 (partition for Intel Rapid Start, 6 GB RAM)Set the partition id=84 (hibernation partition)Installed ExpressCache, which automatically created a partition of the remaining unallocated space.
This setup worked fine for a few days, but somehow the SSD drive is now invisible.

I recently discovered that one of my drives has been at 100% activity with no data being read or written. This particular drive is used for virtual instruments and samples for music. I've never had issues before, but I found it odd that loading projects took an insane amount of time to load, which lead me to check the disk usage of this particular drive.
Current response time spikes into the tens of thousands. Again, nothing is being written or read. If I open the drive, I can see all my files, but the drive never seems to stop "searching". I've attatched a picture below:
