I have been trying to print web pages but all I get is the Page 1 of _ on the top and the file name and date on the bottom. The rest of the sheet is blank. I have no problem printing excel documents, just web pages.

However, today I installed Media Center, and now I see Windows 8 Pro with Media Center Build 9200. Why did this all of a sudden appear? How do I remove it?
I am struggling to get the right size page like A4 when printing specific stuff, I just don't seem to get it right, what I want to do is = put some text on a page and put some pictures onto the same page as I am using a special paper and don't want to make any more mistakes as it is expensive ive printed previously on normal A4 plain paper i have wasted tons so i want text, pictures together on the same sheet not spread all over the sheet. I have used the printer properties etc

I realise that I can obviate scrolling by reducing the zoom from 100% to 75% but I don't find that very comfortable, the text size is then too small for my liking.

This morning I installed Windows Update KB2753842. After that, I could not longer print. This might be coincidental, but it is the only thing that I can think of that has changed since I was able to print.
Now, when I try to print I get the 'Save Print Output As' wizard, prompting me to save to a file. This happens even though the previous Print wizard screen has the 'Print to file' choice unticked.
When I download a pdf file from a an email in my Gmail account that is using chrome I get a screen shot in Windows 8 with all black and the pdf displayed . However I cannot find a way to print it out. The circles offered at the bottom say two pages, one page, open, save as, or more but no ability to print. The document in the middle of window is very clear to read. but I cannot print it out.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a directory in which I have a large number of genealogical records, 756 to be exact. The files are numbered FIN_1881_001_001 to FIN_1881_001_756.
Due to an error when saving these files, I need to change these 756 file numbers to FIN_1891_001_001 to FIN_1891_001_756.
Is there any easy way of doing this without having to change each file name individually.
I have saved numerous files to my hard drive which I am now going back through in trying to put the proper dates that they were made (most of them are audio files; but there are definitely files from every category) and for the most part, I am able to get all of the information that I needed just by right clicking on the file, scrolling down to "Properties" and then selecting the "Details" tab. Nevertheless, for some reason, a good 25-40% of them show a completely inaccurate date. So my question is: any failsafe/foolproof way of finding the correct date in question and on top of that, knowing whether or not that date is actually legitimate; whether that be with the use of some outside program, a command prompt, or some other shortcut?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI recently purchased a new computer equipped with Windows 8.1. It has a different way to show files and folders than every previous Windows OS I have worked with in the past. I use a lot of folders and have thousands of files. In the past, folders were always on top no matter how I organized it, which made it easy to go through several folders in order to find the document I need. In Windows 8 it's different.
When I organize in Details by date modified, newest to oldest, I want folders to be on top. Right now, folders are ALWAYS at the bottom. The only way to get folders on the top is if I organize oldest to newest. It's the same thing if I organize alphabetically. If it's ascending A-Z, folders are on the bottom. If it's descending Z-A, folders are on the top. This makes no sense to me and is not intuitive. Why would I only want folders at the top if I'm going counter-alphabetically or oldest to newest?
It means that I ALWAYS have to scroll in order to find the most recent folder I've used, even if I sort by date modified. That's a tremendous hassle when working with dozens of folders. Even when the folders are on the top of the screen, they're only on top if I've organized Z-A or Oldest to Newest. Which means that if I need to find a folder that starts with A, I either have to organize it A-Z and then scroll all the way down to get to the folders, or I have to organize it Z-A and STILL scroll down because the folders on top start with Z.
Any way to go back to the previous method, and if not why Windows would change it to such a counter intuitive model. I work with hundreds of documents daily.
I have built a rig to be predominantly used with Adobe Creative Cloud Programs. 32gb of ram, a 256gb ssd for Windows 8 (64-bit) and programs, a 64gb ssd for a home testing server, 3 hdd for storage, and another 64 gb ssd. I want to use the 3rd ssd for the Windows 8 page file and PhotoShop's swap file. My question is, how much of that should be used for each. I understand that the page file needs to be in its own partition, and I plan on allocating the remaining room for the swap file, but what size should I make the page file partition?

In the past, on Windows 7, I had 16 GB RAM and I always disabled the page file with 0 problems.

I am upgrading to 32 GB RAM next week to to have dual channel in all RAM slots because now 1 slot is empty making the second RAM slot run on a single channel.
When I have a pdf attachment in an email and save the same into downloads or documents how to print it. When I open the attachment it opens into a full size screen and there is no print option.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm having to use a dark high contrast theme because when I look at normally it makes my eyes want to burn and I don't mean that sarcastically I mean that seriously my eyes start feeling like their burning when I'm staring at a screen that is so bright. So I've used the Microsoft high contrast black theme to make using my computer easier on my eyes however I'm experiencing a problem when I need to go and print something.
I'm printing out documents that are displayed in Internet Explorer and the problem is that the printed document comes out very faded almost as if the contrast is greatly reduced.And on the contrary, if I use the Microsoft high contrast white theme than the documents that I print from Internet Explorer come out printed very well with the same printer settings and all.
Is there anyway I can correct this short of having to use the high contrast white theme which just makes my eyes burn even more?
every time my grandfather tries to print to our HP Photosmart eStation c510 (connected wireless) it cancels mid printing and reports error printing. that's only when he tries to print double sided, if he uses single sided and flips the page it works fine

Using new Sagemcom F@st 1704N combo modem/router (replacing an old fried Sagemcom 4300 single function modem) wired to a previously used Linksys/Cisco 610N router which was, and is wired to 3 WAPs in more remote locations.
Are these assumptions correct?
1 The new network SSID is coming from the 1704 combination modem router.
2 The old network SSID is broadcast by the remote WAPs, but not by the old 610N device.
3 Can a network printer (Brother MFC-8810 DW wireless network device) be configured to work with 2 or more wireless networks at the same time.
4 As a workaround is it it possible to configure a Windows 8.1 laptop computer using Bluetooth to connect to the router and printer.

I just want to copy to clipboard without wasting toner and paper. It can't be a program on the computer as it's clean with just Windows 8.1
It actually happens on all the machines (whether Windows 7, 8, or 8.1). Is it a program installed on the server? Is it a setting in Windows? How do I stop this behavior?
When I try to type the number 0 in the number keyboard, I get a pop-up saying cut, paste, etc. This happens in both my word processing program (WordPerfect) and also when I'm trying to type an e-mail. All other numbers are OK. I am able to type the number 0 when I use the regular keyboard.

Additionally, she downloaded the new Office, so it may not be a Windows problem. But none of her documents are printing properly. They look fine on the print screen, but they all come out with asymmetrical margins. We have tried moving the margins, but they still print with a larger left margin.
