Jun 29, 2014At some point a while ago, new Microsoft Store appls I buy are not showing up as Tiles on the Start screen. Is there a limit of how many tiles I can use?

Apps / Software :: Mail / Calendar And People Apps Live Tiles Not Updating
Aug 27, 2014For more than a week now, the above situation have been occurring. I have "scoured" the web and tried a lot of "solutions" and none as at yet have normalized my situation.
I am suspecting that I might need a registry solution, since I cannot refresh my installation- I upgraded to win 8 from win 7 online.
Also, the Skype app crashes almost as soon as it finishes loading and returns to the start menu. But, there is a sign it is still running and whenever you click on it, it trips off again.
I have uninstalled and re-installed several times, ran the apps troubleshooters many times, checked that the time service is running, synchronized this and that, etc to no avail.
My Mail Live tile do not have the option to turn on/off live update but the Calendar and People tiles have it yet none is updating.

I consider myself an advanced user, but I still overlook a lot of things and make mistakes like everyone.
Basically, Windows 8.1's Metro apps and tiles keep refreshing to default settings like it's the first time I've used them or opened them.
When I go to use Skype, it will always ask if it is allowed to use my webcam and microphone. It seems to remember the settings for a while, then forgets them.
I'm assuming this is CCleaner related, but I unchecked all of the settings that correspond to the Metro applications, and this changes nothing.
I'm unsure if I am actually deleting important information Windows needs without knowing. I usually delete logs on top of the usual things to keep my computer clean.

It's a HP Pavilion G6 2253SA
Intel Core i5 3210M
Intel HD 4000 Graphics up to 1.6GB shared graphic memory
6GB RAM DDR3 at 1600MHz
1TB HDD 5400RPM
Intel HM76 Chipset
Anyway I have a 64 bit copy of Windows 8 Pro installed and this has been re-installed as I did not want to bother with all the Manufacture software that was not necessary for my system
This next part sounds silly and fussy
Anyway even after reinstallation my ram still does not go up to 6GB as it only peaks at 5.89GB and that 103MB is reserved for hardware
I plan on upgrading it to 8GB of ram however I do not want to upgrade it if all the extra memory is just going to be reserved for hardware
Maintenance :: Windows Not Using All RAM Even Though No Limit?
Mar 11, 2013The picture below is a picture of my computers information WHILE rendering a 3D-text object. I will diagnose what each picture seperately with what i want in a brief description in it. What i am also trying to do is render videos but it is wanting take over 24 Hours to rendering a 15 second clip.

The bottom photo is a picture of all my specs and what I am running (Windows 8, 64-bit, 8GB Ram, 2.50GHz, ect, ect. My laptop model is a ASUS R500A with Windows 8 pre-installed, clean. This laptop is a month old and only use it for media).
The picture on the left is a photo of my Task manager while its rendering the video. I can see the CPU is going above its limit even though I have not made any modification to my systems settings but the RAM is not being completely used? It also says 5.1GB Available, 3.0/9.1GB commited? (Even though i only have 8GB), and the Page Pool is low as hell when it should be higher? (If im correct)
The picture on the right is a picture of my virtual memory. I have 8GB of ram but the currently located is 1216MB when it recommends 4.5GB? I was thinking about maybe putting this to 4.5GB but im not sure what to set the Initial Size and the Maximum Size values too.
So basically I want to have my computer modified for rendering at the fastest speed possible. I have also gone into the settings and made sure the limited ram thing is off and it was already off.
UPDATE; I figured if my power options are set to power saving it uses less CPU but when i set it to max it uses all the CPU. This does not fix the RAM problem though.
Limit What Programs Appear When Students Log On
Mar 26, 2014I work at a large school district wherein computers running Windows 8 are shared by staff and students. How can I create a new account type (i.e. Student) and apply the fix above to limit what programs appear when students log on. I have an image for what the student access will comprise, but I don't want to cut off teachers and principals from their resources.

May 15, 2014A few weeks ago I noticed that none of my tiles showed their little icons, like the gear for the Settings tile, etc. I clicked on the weather tile, and it brought up the screen like it was loading for a split second, but then brought me back to my desktop. Some of the time it doesn't even try to bring up the loading screen, it just immediately returns me to the desktop. Also, I just tried to screen shot the tiles page, but nothing happened. I can't screen shot my desktop either. I don't know if this is possibly related, I have not tried to screen shot anything lately.

Jun 23, 2014Yesterday I was watching a video on YouTube no problems when all of a sudden it shut down and didn't want to load back up, after clicking the shortcut on the desktop a dialogue window popped up saying that 'this program isn't in this location' (or something similar) and if I wanted to delete the shortcut. Thinking nothing much of it I rebooted my machine.
After rebooting, some of my tiles were missing and the rest of the tiles had a small black 'X' on the corner, I couldn't open any of my apps and searching for them resulted in the icon popping up in the charms bar but was unable to open them. Literally 20 seconds later all of the tiles disappeared, the charms bar stopped working and the whole screen looked completely blank.
One more reboot later and I have no tiles on the main start screen, no tiles when I swipe down to all apps, no search results for control panel or task manager, the charms bar works but all I can do is access my WiFi network, volume and screen or search.
The tablet is a Dell Latitude 10 ST2.

Sep 13, 2013I was working on desktop mode and suddenly my screen went black. After about 4 seconds everything returned to normal but when I went to the Start screen all of my application tiles were missing. Except for Desktop & Store tiles, all the others had disappeared. I tried to search the missing apps and pin it to Start but it cannot be found. They wont even show in All apps.
I don't think the apps are deleted because from desktop I can open image/audio files with Photos and Music app.
Not sure if the problem maybe a result of me accidently changing the AppData folder to visible a couple of minutes earlier.

After upgrading (in-place) to 8.1 Pro, all of the traditional applications and their shortcuts in the traditional program menu were still there, but the Tiles on the Metro start screen were gone.

Then I installed Chrome, at first start I used it as my default browser, mostly in Windows 8 mode, sometimes in desktop mode, but it always had the grey background tile with the Chrome icon. I wanted to make new tiles for my non-metro apps with OblyTile, and because I use IE sometimes I made one for that too, but after that my Chrome tile became a standard non-metro style tile with blue bg and smaller icon, using it first opens the desktop then the metro-mode chrome, and the original IE tile (I kept it from the beginning) reversed to the original, blue bg, white icon style, but Chrome is the default browser.
reverse Chrome to the gray bg tile and make it open the metro-mode without first opening the desktop?
Apps / Software :: Windows 8.1 Professional - Live Tiles Aren't Updating
Oct 31, 2013Many of my live tiles (Weather, Fitness, Music, Games) don't show anything aside from their logos. They are turned on. I've probably quadruple checked them at this point. For troubleshooting, I have:
Verified that those tiles are turned on.
Verified that the time service is running.
Verified that all the apps and/or their licenses are synced.
Uninstalled/reinstalled the apps.
Removed McAfee (replaced it with Avast free).
Run the UI diagnostic/repair tool that you guys have in one of the long stickied threads.
Verified that they're set to animate via appearance and performance settings.
It looks like the tiles are receiving data, as the Weather app currently has a little 'i' icon in the bottom right hand corner, and there is a weather alert in my area. It's just that there's no temperature/background. It's just the blue tile with white sun. Very odd.
Refreshing this computer is not an option, as I use it for work as well as general computing use.

Feb 13, 2013So, I have been trying to rid my Toshiba Satellite of a ton of bloatware they put on a new laptop running Windows 8. There are also some unnecessary Windows 8 tiles I can't get rid of from the big blue Metro start up screen.
Some, the ones that I guess are "apps" I can right click on, select "unpin" and they're gone, but others I cannot get rid of
Here's how my problem presents:
I select ALL APPS by right clicking on the blue Metro start screen.
Then I right click something like a game "It Girl" or "Polar Bowler" and I see PIN TO START, which I don't want to do, UNINSTALL, which I DO want to do, RUN AS ADMINISTRATOR, or OPEN FILE LOCATION. Uninstall just takes me to the control panel's "add/remove programs." Well there are no games there. I uninstalled them from there already. The other options just take me to the desktop
I'd love to be able to delete these tiles (some games, but also a number of Toshiba programs I'm never going to use.) But I've been unable to find the key.

Dec 11, 2013My wife has a Toshiba Laptop with windows 8, upgraded to 8.1. About a month ago I set up Skype on her computer and all was working fine. Then 2 days ago she tells me it is not working. If you click on the tile, it tries to open, but after 3 second or so it goes back to the desktop. If I move the mouse in to the upper left corner, I can see the opening screen it gives you and I can click on it and it will come up again but only for a second or so and then goes back to the desktop. It never starts Skype. She has the same problem with Microsoft Solitaire Collection. I looked in Programs and Features to do a repair, but they are not listed.
Since there is no listing in Programs and Features, I don't even have the option to uninstall and then reinstall it.

Cannot Type Number 0 - Popup Appear For Cut And Paste?
Jul 4, 2014When I try to type the number 0 in the number keyboard, I get a pop-up saying cut, paste, etc. This happens in both my word processing program (WordPerfect) and also when I'm trying to type an e-mail. All other numbers are OK. I am able to type the number 0 when I use the regular keyboard.
