I created add user account from it yet I do not test the drive D if it is readable, editable, or writeable, all the files I stored there. What I noticed was the Drive C of my personal files is fully isolated by password. So, my question is can I configure my Drive D too to view or read only my files for someone? I don't want to share because some files stored it contains terms and agreement.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a need for inspecting a huge batch of files created by Word 97. They mostly consist of a complex mixture of figures that (I've been told) on the original Word 97 were all ordered into columns (but no *tables* format was used). On my Windows 8.1, I have Kingsoft Writer installed and this shows me just a jumble of words and figures whose meaning I can't easily guess. It can't obviously read the exact format of Word 97.
I know I can find a Word 97 Viewer somewhere on the Microsoft site - but nowhere I'm seeing anything mentioned as compatible with Windows 8 and I'm reluctant to install something that might compromise my great new computer. Would it be o.k. to install on Windows 8 a Word Viewer created for previous operating systems?
My last computer died a week ago so I bought a new desk top tower. I'm well conditioned to using W7 but everything seems to have W8 or W8.1 on it now so I got one with W8.1. First, I'm bummed that I have to learn how to use a new OS. Some say W8 is a better functioning version of W7. It's different, plain and simple.
I installed Classic Shell to add some of the familiar features from W7 to my W8.1. That did work with some things but when viewing pics, there is no task bar across the top of the screen like there was ion W7. I was hoping that Classic Shell would add one there but it did not.
Is there any way to add a task bar across the top of the screen in W8.1 when viewing a picture file like there is in W7?

I recently bought a new laptop with Windows 8 installed. I had no trouble downloading an .exe program file previously, but now nothing happens when I try to run the program. I've run another fix mentioned on this forum, and after rebooting, I get the same results.

My computer started freezing while downloading large files in uTorrent, About 10 minutes after starting uTorrent the PC starts to be really really slow and 1 minute after it freezes, only restarted/shutdown solve the problem, I've been using uTorrent for years and never had this problem, I mean it happens when I download a 15GB movie, but two months ago I downloaded a 170GB TV series and no problems were with that.
So I thought maybe its a problem in the HDD (not in the space, I have aprox. 150GB free in C and 220GB in D), I don't really know what to do.
in IE10 (while trying to download 2GB file from MEGA service) I got popup, that IE10 is incompatible with MEGA, so it can download only small files.

I'm being told that the anti-virus scan failed and so I found some turorial on how to update the registry in Windows (I run 8.1) in order to make the virus scan work after a download is completed. This did not work. I already tried to run CCleaner to fix registry issues, I ran Malwarebytes on a full scan and I also re-installed Chrome to no change.
I have checked that I am fully able to download files in Windows Explorer 10 just as expected, so it would seem that it's something with Chrome and I was advised to look at the .temp folder's size but it was completely empty and I also have lots of free harddrive space.
When I try to save files from Google, Office 2013 or any program in Windows 8.1, I get a partial white screen and a "Not Responding" message on the Title Bar. The "Close Program" dialog box follows. So, I can't "Save As" to my computer.

on Acer Aspire Windows 8 - All the drivers I have to instal, do not include an installation program and I have to instal the drivers manually. I don't know if I am doing it right or if there is an easier way of doing it but I have to right click the downloaded Zip file for Bluetooth, extract all files, search for the Bluetooth folder in Device Manager to instal the driver. I have got six drivers (not all Bluetooth) to instal and just want it get it right. before I upgrade to Windows 8.1 again.

Anyway I have a 64 bit copy of Windows 8 Pro installed and this has been re-installed as I did not want to bother with all the Manufacture software that was not necessary for my system

Anyway even after reinstallation my ram still does not go up to 6GB as it only peaks at 5.89GB and that 103MB is reserved for hardware
I plan on upgrading it to 8GB of ram however I do not want to upgrade it if all the extra memory is just going to be reserved for hardware
The picture below is a picture of my computers information WHILE rendering a 3D-text object. I will diagnose what each picture seperately with what i want in a brief description in it. What i am also trying to do is render videos but it is wanting take over 24 Hours to rendering a 15 second clip.

The bottom photo is a picture of all my specs and what I am running (Windows 8, 64-bit, 8GB Ram, 2.50GHz, ect, ect. My laptop model is a ASUS R500A with Windows 8 pre-installed, clean. This laptop is a month old and only use it for media).
The picture on the left is a photo of my Task manager while its rendering the video. I can see the CPU is going above its limit even though I have not made any modification to my systems settings but the RAM is not being completely used? It also says 5.1GB Available, 3.0/9.1GB commited? (Even though i only have 8GB), and the Page Pool is low as hell when it should be higher? (If im correct)
The picture on the right is a picture of my virtual memory. I have 8GB of ram but the currently located is 1216MB when it recommends 4.5GB? I was thinking about maybe putting this to 4.5GB but im not sure what to set the Initial Size and the Maximum Size values too.
So basically I want to have my computer modified for rendering at the fastest speed possible. I have also gone into the settings and made sure the limited ram thing is off and it was already off.
UPDATE; I figured if my power options are set to power saving it uses less CPU but when i set it to max it uses all the CPU. This does not fix the RAM problem though.
I work at a large school district wherein computers running Windows 8 are shared by staff and students. How can I create a new account type (i.e. Student) and apply the fix above to limit what programs appear when students log on. I have an image for what the student access will comprise, but I don't want to cut off teachers and principals from their resources.

Then, I checked my Task Manager and it says I'm downloading constantly at 2.1 Mbps, what is basically all the bandwidth I have. Then, I check the Resource Monitor and it only reports the use of some bytes per second of bandwidth.
I have already disabled Windows Update because I thought it could be downloading updates, but I still have the same bandwidth usage.
After losing my Metro tiles to an error, and not being able to restore or refresh my PC, I decided to purge and re-install. I have several HDD's in my computer, and would like to learn how to map documents, music, etc. to my D: drive by default, to save room on C: for Windows and programs. I think it is done by RegEdit.

I've got cyberlink power dvd 9.0, which has a dvd movie playback codec.. so its not a software issue.
I've also got vlc media player which comes with a dvd movie playback codec, so again, not a software issue
Could this be my drive showing signs of premature impending failure on a machine just under a year old? or is this windows stuffing up and not recognizing theres a disc loaded?
I have been using the computer with Windows 8 for 7 months now. I'm basically unhappy with it but have been using it. Yesterday I tried to post a pic on an email. A box came up saying "documents.library-ms" is no longer working. Then an additional window saying There is a problem opening this location.
I did a reset to not loose the files. After that It came up without the windows 8 windows. I did another reset without files being lost and it came up with some windows. I restarted the computer and original windows screen came up without all I'd added over time. I tried pulling up a doc and got the same documents-library-ms notification. I went to search and files and all the docs and pics are there but will not pull up when you go to libraries.
A little while ago i opened up one of my wordpad documents that was 7 pages long and to my great surprise all the data i had previously saved in this document was missing! I swear i did not delete the 7 pages of data myself. Today i opened up another wordpad document and guess what all the data i had saved in this doc was no longer there too! Is there any way of retrieving the lost data or is it lost for good? I repeat i definitely did not delete the data knowingly myself.

I cannot open the original files and get a message "1 Interrupted Action" An unexpected message is keeping you from copying the file. Error code 0x80070490 Element not found.
This has applied to ALL of my documents.
I have tried to delete all the useless files and rename the changed versions back to the original names. But after a reboot, the duplicates are back!

I was trying to install elementary OS alongside Windows but when the installation was finishing it crashed. When I went back to Windows my hard drive didn't appear and now it says in Manage>Storage>Disk Management Disk 1 Dynamic - Invalid i posted a picture of this.I tried with Ubuntu then on the other disk same thing happened. Installed Office Professional Plus 2010 on new computer with Windows 8. Can create and open all Office documents except unable to open existing Excel documents. When try to open, I am asked for the activation key. When key is entered, get message that key is not valid. Inserted install disk and re-entered activation key. Did not work.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI get a black screen after the loading screen when I boot up my computer. To fix this problem, I decided to do a dirty install, but I stumbled upon a problem. I have 2 Crucial 64GB SSDs that I put together as one, making my C: Disk, but I didn't see it in the Volume List. I only see what was Drive D:, my 1TB Seagate HDD, which, supposedly, took my SSDs' place as Drive C:.
I've unplugged the SSDs and booted up with only one plugged in, and made the Primary Boot Device "Removable Disk", but when I boot up, I get an error message saying "BOOTMGR is missing". The same thing happened when I did the same with the other SSD. It can be deduced that both of the SSDs have to work together as a whole to function.
Then, I unplugged the 1TB HDD and tried again. When I did a chkdsk for Drive C:, I got a message saying, "The system cannot find the drive specified". From this, it is obvious that the 2 SSDs (which are the actual C: Drives) aren't being detected by my computer, but the 1TB (Drive D: ) is being detected.
After uncovering this problem, I think this may be the fault that is giving me the black screen after boot.
