View 2 Replies Some few days ago there came a problem with my Laptop; and the problem was it starts consuming lot of battery when goes to idle mode. After Searching on internet i came to know that there is virus in My Laptop and there are only some programs which can remove it. Not even Avira, Microsoft Defender and any other. So i Just installed UnHackME software are cleaned my Windows 8.1. It worked Perfect and my problem seems to be resolved. But after removing that virus. New problem came in my Windows 8.1 and the Problem is :- When i Open Built-in Apps in my windows 8.1 Like App store, Skype, Mail, Finance, New, Health & Fitness, Weather, Calender, People, Food & Drink, Music, Games, Maps, Videos, News etc they just disappear after a single flash screen. The only apps which are in working condition are Camera, Sky drive and some apps which are created by installing some programs in my Windows 8.1.
What happens when i Open my apps :-
The app Screen Comes and after some 2-3 seconds it disappears...
What I've done so far :-
I tried to visit many communities and blogs but didn't find my problem resolved. I tried to run command sfc /scannow gave me following results after full scan Windows Resource Protection Found Corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them. Details are included in the CBS.Log windirLogsCBSCBS.log. For example C:WindowsLogsCBSCBS.log. Note that logging is currently not supported in offline servicing scenerios. (Problem Not resolved) I tried to run different commands in different blogs even to re-install App Store so that i can even uninstall all apps and re-install them all but .. (Problem Not Resolve)
Because i have huge collection of software installed in my Windows and being student i cannot afford to get the pain of re-installing the windows 8.1. And after some days I have exams and I've to study as well.
I have an Acer Aspire One725 running Windows 8.1.
I am unable to create any restore point, having tried every suggestion I found on the net.
How can I reinstall the restore point creator?
The file "sr.inf" mysteriously disappeared from my system.
I ran a virus program to get rid of that "Visual Bee" and not only did it not get rid of it , I lost some of the tiles on the start up page. The one in the left corner that takes you to the desktop is gone. how to restore those tiles?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI would like to reinstall Win 8 on my ASRock UEFI motherboard in the UEFI mode. I have Win 7 OEM and the downloaded Win 8 Pro upgrade. I have the Win 8 Pro upgrade burned to an ISO disc. I also have the hard drive backed up to Acronis 2013 and have an Acronis WinPE rescue disc to boot with to restore.
Several questions.
(1) If I convert to UEFI and format the drive to GPT, will Acronis restore to the GPT (from MBR)?
(2) If Acronis won't restore, will converting to UEFI/GPT affect installing or activating the Win 7 OEM and/or the Win 8 Pro upgrade (I assume I'll have to install Win 7 and then upgrade to Win 8).
(3) Will a UEFI system read other hard drives that are MBR formatted?
I am wondering if there is any good software out there for audio graphic equalization. Or just equalizer you know for changing how audio sounds. I had a pair of headphones with software that made some things sound INCREDIBLE but I am getting rid of them for issues.
I am wondering if there is any decent software to manage equalization of audio other than the built in ones for Windows Media Player?
It seems like exactly something Vista would do. How to fix this so I can activate applications?
It was giving me this error at first with IE10, but now it's able to open.
I get the error for trying to launch those built in apps that I'll probably never use anyway.
The worst thing is I get the error if I try to open an image such as a png or jpeg.
1. Windows 8 PRO 64 bit recently.
2. My Apps stopped working and all recovery efforts failed to get them working again.
3. Ran several malware and anti-virus programs and still no way to get my Apps working again.
4. I click on an App and the display just returns to the start display.
5. So, I had to reinstall Windows 8 from scratch since none of the "RESTORE" listing would restore.
6. I had not made a "recovery drive" so that was not an option.
i was trying to access the store and it said "store can't be accessed with the built-in administator" and to sign in with another user... i am the only one that uses this laptop and my question was how can i access it or is there a way to bypass it using the built-in administator?
View 1 Replies View RelatedFor more than a week now, the above situation have been occurring. I have "scoured" the web and tried a lot of "solutions" and none as at yet have normalized my situation.
I am suspecting that I might need a registry solution, since I cannot refresh my installation- I upgraded to win 8 from win 7 online.
Also, the Skype app crashes almost as soon as it finishes loading and returns to the start menu. But, there is a sign it is still running and whenever you click on it, it trips off again.
I have uninstalled and re-installed several times, ran the apps troubleshooters many times, checked that the time service is running, synchronized this and that, etc to no avail.
My Mail Live tile do not have the option to turn on/off live update but the Calendar and People tiles have it yet none is updating.
Metro Apps/Tiles Keep Refreshing To Default Settings?
I consider myself an advanced user, but I still overlook a lot of things and make mistakes like everyone.
Basically, Windows 8.1's Metro apps and tiles keep refreshing to default settings like it's the first time I've used them or opened them.
When I go to use Skype, it will always ask if it is allowed to use my webcam and microphone. It seems to remember the settings for a while, then forgets them.
I'm assuming this is CCleaner related, but I unchecked all of the settings that correspond to the Metro applications, and this changes nothing.
I'm unsure if I am actually deleting important information Windows needs without knowing. I usually delete logs on top of the usual things to keep my computer clean.

View 9 Replies View RelatedYesterday I was watching a video on YouTube no problems when all of a sudden it shut down and didn't want to load back up, after clicking the shortcut on the desktop a dialogue window popped up saying that 'this program isn't in this location' (or something similar) and if I wanted to delete the shortcut. Thinking nothing much of it I rebooted my machine.
After rebooting, some of my tiles were missing and the rest of the tiles had a small black 'X' on the corner, I couldn't open any of my apps and searching for them resulted in the icon popping up in the charms bar but was unable to open them. Literally 20 seconds later all of the tiles disappeared, the charms bar stopped working and the whole screen looked completely blank.
One more reboot later and I have no tiles on the main start screen, no tiles when I swipe down to all apps, no search results for control panel or task manager, the charms bar works but all I can do is access my WiFi network, volume and screen or search.
The tablet is a Dell Latitude 10 ST2.

I've read that Office can indeed be re-installed after the upgrade, but I haven't found any information on exactly how to do this. Any step-by-step guide on re-installing Office, including a list of all the information/codes I'll need to get hold of (for example, will I need to find my product key?) for the process?
I went into This Computer and went to my C: drive to attempt to clean things up and make my system run faster by compressing files to save space. Unfortunately, I clicked some of the wrong stuff and hid data that I'm pretty sure the computer thinks is important, and now my Metro tiles are missing.

It has to do with Shockwave Flash Object, in IE, can I remove this add on to let these files be deletable. I managed to move out the Macromed folder out of system32 but so much for it. in syswow64 cant even move out the folder
Many of my live tiles (Weather, Fitness, Music, Games) don't show anything aside from their logos. They are turned on. I've probably quadruple checked them at this point. For troubleshooting, I have:
Verified that those tiles are turned on.
Verified that the time service is running.
Verified that all the apps and/or their licenses are synced.
Uninstalled/reinstalled the apps.
Removed McAfee (replaced it with Avast free).
Run the UI diagnostic/repair tool that you guys have in one of the long stickied threads.
Verified that they're set to animate via appearance and performance settings.
It looks like the tiles are receiving data, as the Weather app currently has a little 'i' icon in the bottom right hand corner, and there is a weather alert in my area. It's just that there's no temperature/background. It's just the blue tile with white sun. Very odd.
Refreshing this computer is not an option, as I use it for work as well as general computing use.
My wife has a Toshiba Laptop with windows 8, upgraded to 8.1. About a month ago I set up Skype on her computer and all was working fine. Then 2 days ago she tells me it is not working. If you click on the tile, it tries to open, but after 3 second or so it goes back to the desktop. If I move the mouse in to the upper left corner, I can see the opening screen it gives you and I can click on it and it will come up again but only for a second or so and then goes back to the desktop. It never starts Skype. She has the same problem with Microsoft Solitaire Collection. I looked in Programs and Features to do a repair, but they are not listed.
Since there is no listing in Programs and Features, I don't even have the option to uninstall and then reinstall it.
I have upgraded to Windows 8.1 and have had trouble opening the default Windows apps. So I removed the news app. Now I am trying to reinstall it with Powershell. How can I do this? I don't have an account with Microsoft and don't want to create one just for this. I don't see it listed when I type Get-AppxPackage -AllUsers

View 3 Replies View RelatedI added some apps from the Store to my initial Owner/Admin account on Win 8.1. Today, I wanted to have them show on the account that will be used for everyday non-admin stuff. I logged into Microsoft with this account and attempted to add them to show on this account (after temporarily promoting account to Admin). Store said it was "already installed." So....I logged back into initial owner/admin account, and used the "uninstall" (not just unpin) option on the bottom of the Start Screen, thinking that I couldn't have them on two accounts so I'll get rid of them on one account. But...when I went back to install the apps on the new account from the Store, I get the same message. I looked for the apps via Control Panel, but nothing shows.
How can I get these apps to install/reinstall when they think they're already there? Are they on my machine where I can actually see/remove/use them? Where are they hiding?
At some point a while ago, new Microsoft Store appls I buy are not showing up as Tiles on the Start screen. Is there a limit of how many tiles I can use?
View 1 Replies View RelatedA few weeks ago I noticed that none of my tiles showed their little icons, like the gear for the Settings tile, etc. I clicked on the weather tile, and it brought up the screen like it was loading for a split second, but then brought me back to my desktop. Some of the time it doesn't even try to bring up the loading screen, it just immediately returns me to the desktop. Also, I just tried to screen shot the tiles page, but nothing happened. I can't screen shot my desktop either. I don't know if this is possibly related, I have not tried to screen shot anything lately.

I've just realized that when I open CCleaner, I still see a 'Firefox' section at the left sidebar of the app, and there's a Firefox tab (containing some entries) in the Startup list, though the Firefox itself had already been removed.
I try to clean registry using Wise, and re-install CCleaner, but those things still exist.
How can I remove them?

After about 4 seconds everything returned to normal but when I went to the Start screen all of my application tiles were missing. Except for Desktop & Store tiles, all the others had disappeared. I tried to search the missing apps and pin it to Start but it cannot be found. They wont even show in All apps.
I don't think the apps are deleted because from desktop I can open image/audio files with Photos and Music app.
Not sure if the problem maybe a result of me accidently changing the AppData folder to visible a couple of minutes earlier.
