I ran a virus program to get rid of that "Visual Bee" and not only did it not get rid of it , I lost some of the tiles on the start up page. The one in the left corner that takes you to the desktop is gone. how to restore those tiles?

View 5 Replies View RelatedSince receiving my laptop back from it being repaired (Fan wasn't spinning then the laptop wouldn't turn on after trying to fix it myself) it turns on and the fan spins just fine although I am having numerous software problems.
First, I can't open my photos, music or documents folder (videos seems to be fine) and they don't have their original icons anymore, when I try to open the folders using the file explorer nothing happens, when I tried to open folder using the tiles, the folder would load then close without warning or reason and when I tried opening files by right clicking > open with, it would open then a banner will show saying. 'You don't have permission to access this' (Or something similar).
I am able to access my photos and such by going to: Computer > Local Disk (C: ) > Users > [My name], in there I can find it all but it's not where it should be.
After this I decided to restore my pc to an earlier point, but since then my tiles have vanished (Photos, music, Skype, videos, people and so on) although the Store tile seems to have stayed and is working fine.
While trying to reinstall the tiles from the store, the store says I already have the tiles but I can't find them anywhere.
I eventually decided to reset my system and reinstall windows (I would be reverted to Windows 8 not 8.1) although while attempting a reset, a banner shows up saying. 'There was a problem while resetting your PC'. When clicking 'Check for solutions to this problem' it would minimise the window to the desktop and then nothing would happen.
I want my old PC back, before it needed repairing!
After installing Windows 8 Media Center I lost most of the Tiles on the Start Screen. Ican't find a way to get them back.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI recently turn off the login password on Windows 8.1, HP laptop. The next time she went to turn it on, all the normal tiles from the Start Screen were gone with the exception of five tiles: IE, File Explorer, Store, SkyDrive and Desktop.
The File Explorer icon opens a folder showing the various libraries and devices/drivers. When she clicks on the Documents folder it doesn't show any of her files. I did eventually find them by going to her name in the Users folder, but we cannot understand why simply taking away the requirement for a login password would change everything. All her browser favorites were also wiped out, and she had to reinstall Chrome.
When I boot up or change users, it goes black for about 5 minutes and then everything shows up and works fine. What is this black period? I sense the computer is searching for something?
I am using the Classic Shell also. I have the latest 8.1.
I am new to Windows 8, I had a corrupt update, it was fixed, but my tile format is completely not how it should look...plus my built in apps, specifically photos, are gone...
View 2 Replies View RelatedMy Norton trial that came preloaded in my HP laptop was about to expire so I removed it using the Symantec Norton tool remover.
Now I only have IE 11. The Firefox and Chrome browsers won't connect to the internet. I tried system restore a couple of times but that's not working either.
How to get my browsers back. I ran the adware removal tool, AVG scan and malwarebytes. Everything is clean.
Automatic Restore Points is not working in System Restore. Task Scheduler is empty during last 30 days.

View 2 Replies View RelatedSo my laptop has been getting multiple BSOD errors during or shortly after startup. I let my roommate download and play WoW and Ventrillo. And the issues started shortly after, first with the game simply crashing and escalating into the computer itself not working correctly. I figured the best place to start since it didn't have much stuff on it was to just put my stuff I needed on a USB and do a factory reset. Which seemed to make no change. I have run memtest once for four passes and it found no errors.
I can remember a few of the errors I have been getting.
Bad Pool Header
Memory Management
IRQL not less or equal
Kernal Security Check Error/Failure
There was also one or two other memory related ones that I cant remember the exact wording of.
I recently decided to upgrade to Windows 8.1 but in doing so I turned off my computer because it was taking too long to download as I had thought my computer had frozen. When I cut my computer back on, I noticed everything was gone. I had to deal with all that temporary profile mess, but I eventually figured out how to do a system restore. Now here's where things get bad. I am an aspiring young music artist and producer so files are very important to me. Anyways, the restore completed successfully but I did not get any of my files back, my downloads, pictures, documents, or programs!!!!! Is there anyway I can get all of that back?
View 2 Replies View RelatedTwice in last 2 weeks, some of my tiles (Games, Bing News, Store, People, Mail, etc.) have just stopped responding.When clicked, I get a blank screen, then the full Start Screen re-appears.Other tiles such as Chrome, Word and Outlook work OK.When this first happened, I did a system restore, and the problem went away, but this time the restore point seems to have gone too.The 'Change PC Settings' does not work either, as I decided to try a complete refresh, but can't access that.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have the problem since a few weeks (mostly after a tile update), and I'm not the only one, my friend has it too on both his laptop and desktop, that the live tiles, or actually some of them, for example weather, are not refreshing anymore. It just shows the blue weather tile. When I open it, it works though, news the same. Also I tried to deinstall and reinstall the weather app, but now it doesnt even show the "use live tile" button anymore (look at picture).
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a server with Windows 8 on a 360gb sata drive with 4 1.5TB drives as storage, which i had joined under Windows 8 to be seen as one drive. The system had been sluggish lately so was going to replace the 360gb with a ssd which i had used b4 on my laptop, so when i had it connected and started to install.
I seen 5.8 drive and ssd 12ogb drive and a few small partitions i deleted main partition on ssd and few other small partition which i thought was on the SSD but one was related to the storage drives and they are all screwed up now and when i connect the original Windows 8 os hard drive it doesn't boot anymore.
My question is whats the best way to proceed to save all the data on the hard drives nothing was formatted on theses drives.
What can cause this:

Assume Is started a new Win8 system.Then at first the tile/frames overview appear.
When I click now on one of the tiles/frames (e.g. fin, news,...) then I jump to the corresponding section. Fine.
But how do I return to the tiles/frames overview?
I tried ESC key but this didn't work.
I found no "RETURN to overview" link/button neither.
Whats the magic key press?
I can't disable startup applications because I can't find them in the startup list.
Yes I know they are not anymore in msconfig.exe but instead in taskmanager-> startup. But they are not there.
I tried with cccleaner but also I can't see all startup apps.
So where I can find all startup apps list and disable them?
i have windows 8 when trying to use system restore it gets to the screen that says system restore is restoring files, but that's as far as it gets, I let it run today for 4 hrs. what can i do?

They used to be in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionRun or HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionRun but in Windows 8 they aren't. I can view the file locations but can't figure out what's causing them to startup when Windows starts.

I had to power it off. When I restarted I noticed some of my programs weren't starting properly. Well I looked for a restore point an only found one. Before I had at least 6 or 8. My question is where have they gone. Is there a place where windows stores them, and is there a way to recover them?

I created one manually but would like to see Win 8 create them.

At the same time o0ther serious problems have arisen:
In control panel>programs and features all programs except those named Mi-Mo have disappeared. Some installed since are there, and those in the quick launch menu still work. Most are also missing from the start menu.
Al;so on start up I get a small window saying explorer.exe with a yellow exclamation mark and nothing else.
I'd do a system restore point to get over a problem - there aren't any!
Shouldn't windows automatically make them?
I've had this problem for a year with windows 8 (now 8.1) and I think I even had it with 7. Before that it never seemed to be a problem.
I want to use System Restore because every time I right click in file explorer or on my desktop, they crash (but I'm still able to run other programs normally). But when I try to start it, nothing happens. In the task manager, under background processes, it lists System Restore as many times as I've clicked on it! My anti-virus software isn't reacting to anything, though.
I really need to make a system image before I send my laptop in to get a hardware problem fixed, but I don't want to carry this over in the system image once the hardwares fixed...
I have never managed to get System Restore to work on Windows 8 or Windows 8.1 and always have to fall back to a backup.
I get a message indicating error code 0x80070005 and suggesting I turn off my anti-virus.
I have tried turning off my AV before running the restore but to no avail, and since the AV starts automatically I'm not quite sure how turning it off before the restore would work.
I recently tried a restore from the latest recovery point and got error code 0x80070006.
