View 9 Replies View RelatedMy mother bought a samsung notebook, which came with Windows 8 original version installed. There is a adhesive for windows 8 confirmation on it. I can send a video of it, but I wanted to change it to Windows 7, installed on my computer that I was used to. So, I made a backup of my Windows 7 and tried to install it on my notebook.
Unfortunately, I deleted all from the notebook and forgot to take the serial key or to change my partition table from GPT to MBR, so I can't install Windows 7.
I only want to recover my Windows 8 serial key, so I can re-install it , change the partition table to MEG and install Windows 7!
Bought a Sony Vaio Pro 13 and as per usual with all my new laptops, a fresh install is done.
So on i went armed with my USB with Windows 8 created from an iso file from the microsoft site (i have msdn access).
The iso is a "multiple version" iso which has Windows 8 and Windows 8 Pro (en-gb_windows_8_x64_dvd_915412.iso)
Normally i would expect at the end of the install for the screen to allow me to enter my serial which in turn actives/deactivates features but for some reason, it has not this time round.
instead, the properties of my computer suggest a serial has already been entered "Current product key" *****-66ABC
Now i know i can "add features" and enter the serial that way but my question is, where is it picking the old serial from? i can only guess that the old serial is the one the laptop came with which is Windows 8 and not Windows 8 Pro.
The install was normal in terms of removing all partitions ( left the windows re and the sony recovery) so is it picking it up from there somehow?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI just wanted to know the build number of Windows 8 Retail. I mean the one that released Oct 26th.
"HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindows NTCurrentVersion"
I used to have Vista, when I had multiple windows open in an application (and they were combined in the taskbar) the number of windows used to be displayed next to the icon. Now I have Windows 8.1, this feature seems to have disappeared and the only way I can see how many windows are open is to manually count them one-by-one. The only difference when the application combines the windows is that is looks to have 3 windows combined on the right hand side of the application in the taskbar.
Is there any way to get this number back? I think this feature may have been removed from 8.1, but if it has is there a workaround?
Any method to remove "Activate Windows" and "Build Number" watermarks from 8.1 Ent. ?

When I try to type the number 0 in the number keyboard, I get a pop-up saying cut, paste, etc. This happens in both my word processing program (WordPerfect) and also when I'm trying to type an e-mail. All other numbers are OK. I am able to type the number 0 when I use the regular keyboard.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a directory in which I have a large number of genealogical records, 756 to be exact. The files are numbered FIN_1881_001_001 to FIN_1881_001_756.
Due to an error when saving these files, I need to change these 756 file numbers to FIN_1891_001_001 to FIN_1891_001_756.
Is there any easy way of doing this without having to change each file name individually.
I want to make keyboard symbols, specifically the Spanish inverted exclamation point and other special characters. Everything I have found online says I need to make sure that num lock is on and then use the proper ALT function. However, I am on a laptop with no number pad and no num lock key. I can't figure out how to make these special characters.
View 3 Replies View RelatedThe number of emails displayed per page in Outlook.com is 35 ( reading pane is off ), how to reduce this to 25 so that I don't need to scroll down ? I realise that I can obviate scrolling by reducing the zoom from 100% to 75% but I don't find that very comfortable, the text size is then too small for my liking.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have 2 Microsoft accounts. I have enabled 2 step verification for both of them. With one account, I was able to enter my cell phone number to complete the process, so I would receive a text message if a device I haven't set to trusted tries to log in to that account. I tried the same process on the second account, and whenever I try to enter the same cell phone number, I get an error page that the service is 'temporarily unavailable'. I have tried every combination of entering the cell phone number that I can think of, and nothing works for that second account.
With the first account, I was using the Opera browser to enter the information. With the second account, I was using IE 10. With the second account, I get an e-mail with a verification code if an untrusted device tries to log in. This is OK, but I would prefer to receive a text to my cell phone instead, as I do not always have such instant access to my e-mail account.
Or can you not use the same cell phone number for 2 accounts?
Edited to add: This is the exact message I get when I try to have MS send a code to my cell phone:
There's a temporary problem with the service. Please try again. If you continue to get this message, try again later.
I've been doing some research online this evening, doing a search with that message. It looks like this is pretty hopeless. Once people see this message in relation to any MS services, there seems to be no solution for it. I guess I should just be grateful that I at least haven't been locked out of my Windows Live account entirely, since Windows 8 is so tied to being able to connect to one's Microsoft account. Of course, the account I use for my throw-away Hotmail account works just fine.
The format I've used for the phone number is (XXX) XXX-XXXX . I've tried variations of that with brackets, spaces, and hyphens, nothing works, but at least e-mail verification still does.
I have acer aspire v3-571g laptop with windows 8.1 x64 based OS. Processor is Intel Core i5.

I have been trying to print web pages but all I get is the Page 1 of _ on the top and the file name and date on the bottom. The rest of the sheet is blank. I have no problem printing excel documents, just web pages.

Have a question regarding "Local Account". I'm having problems connecting to the Win 8 laptop from Win 7 as it will not accept my sign in credentials. With that, am I to assume that this is because the credential aren't "Local", and thus this is what this is for???
It will not accept the "Microsoft" account I use to log into Win 8 laptop.
With that, if I choose to go with the "local account" can I easily switch back to the Microsoft one?
I had windows 7 and outlook express on it. The computer crashed. I had to get a whole new computer with windows 8 and just outlook. View 7 Replies View RelatedI have a few questions about dual booting windows 7 and windows 8 preinstalled (UEFI) on my Dell laptop.
1. Can I install a non-UEFI version of Windows 7 on my laptop, if so how?
2. Will installing a non-UEFI version of Windows 7 on my laptop break it?
3. Can I use EasyBCD for UEFI?
4. How do I create a UEFI windows 7?
In a few days I will receive a Lenovo Thinkpad X1 Carbon with Windows 8 installed. And separately I will receive an OEM Win7. Win7 is certainly what I intend to use, and I had originally thought I would wipe out Windows 8 and install Win7. But now I am wondering if I can somehow preserve Windows 8 for occasional use. (I would have ordered the machine with Win7 but this is a refurbished machine.)
I would rather not have to understand UEFI. (I'm sure it would be interesting, I just have other things to do with my time.) And, although I do it sometimes, and will if I have to, I do not like diddling with BIOS settings.
I know that factory installed operating systems generally can't be moved to other machines. And I fear that the factory installed Windows 8 that I will receive may not even tolerate being installed, e.g., in a smaller partition or under something like VMware (another complication I'd like to avoid).
I am currently running windows 8 64bit OS. I have a windows 7 32bit .iso file. I want to install the windows 7 32 bit while keeping the windows 8 64bit too.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a Samsung Series 5, 530U (the remaining digits I don't recall right now).
I purchased it from a digital superstore, like a market, rather than a regular PC store.
The device is set for Windows 7, although on purchase, I asked for Windows 8 to be installed.
Now, a BSOD has stopped me gaining access through refreshing, restarting, safe mode or any of the options available through the troubleshooting menu.
I retrieved my data using a SATA, and now wish to wipe the system of Windows 8, and avoid all the hassle it has brought me, returning to it's factory settings of W7.
I do not have a disk, or anything to do so. When I go through the menu on start-up, I click 'restore system' but I am then prompted for 'recovery mdeia or installation disk'.
Is it possible to just reset the whole PC and start from the day it left the factory?
If I need a disk to reset the original settings, where can I get it from and would simply loading it when prompted fix my problem?
All I want is to be able to use my own PC. I want Windows 8 cleared off and a reliable, original settings PC.
