The Modified date of files in Windows Explorer is shown as Today - Yesterday - Friday ..... and if it's older than a week as a date 13/02/2013.
Is there any way to always show the modified column as date and not day-of-week?

You are attempting to open a file type of 'System file' (.cpl)
These files are used by the operating system and by various programs. Modifying or editing them could damage your system.

So what do I use to open and run it?
Windows 8.1 is becoming a real hassle to deal with
I am unable to get my Windows 8.1 installation to use anything but the US keyboard format, despite the fact that all my keyboard and regional settings are UK.
In particular, I go into the "Keyboard" application in Control Panel, and English (United Kingdom) is listed as the first item.
N.B. English (United States) is listed as the 2nd item in this list, and I can't remove it (I remove it from the list, but it is put back in the list when I restart the keyboard application).
Whatever I do, the keyboard layout remains the same - for example, the " and @ keys are the wrong way round.
How do I change the lock-screen language/time format?
Open the following in a text editor: C:Users<Username>AppDataRoamingMicrosoftWind owsLogonUserSetti ngs.ini
For example, the settings below changed the clock to 24 hour format and show month/day in Dutch.
Code:
[GlobalizationPreferences]
TimeFormat=HH:mm tt
LocaleName=en-US
GeographicRegion=US
Calendar=GregorianCalendar
Clock=24HourClock
Languages=nl-NL
It is not working for me. Does it only work in the Windows 8 previews?
The officially released Windows 8 doesn't have a "Logon" folder, but I created one and put "UserSettings.ini":
Code:
[GlobalizationPreferences]
TimeFormat=hh:mm:ss tt
LocaleName=en-US
GeographicRegion=US
Calendar=GregorianCalendar
Clock=12HourClock
Languages=en-US
As my machine doesn't support SLAT in HyperV I am using VMlite XP mode to run some 16 bit programs I need. Very occaisionally VMlite hangs on close after it has saved state or shutdown the guest machine.
I go to task manager and click end task on the Workstation GUI and it closes but very occaisionally end task wont closed the program. Sign off wont close the program either and restarting hangs at the blue screen 'restarting' I have to push the reset button on the tower to get the machine to restart.
Is there any hidden way of closing VMlite so I dont have to restart, a sort of hard end task?
Not sure if this is the right board, but I'm keen on accessing the aforementioned box directly rather going through task manager due to the run as admin check box, but I can't find the file location. I prefer using the run dialog usually to access apps because I could do without extra effort to merely SEARCH for apps. However I can't use it to run apps as admin (at least I've forgotten the line I might have used in vista and 7). Can the aforementioned box be accessed directly?

Ok Skype for some reason seems to think its december 8th of all things, we've confirmed the computer's date/time settings are correct...
I have installed Win 8.1 on my PC. I have noticed the system changing after sometime to the next day and the time also changes to 12:00AM. When I go to Date and Time setting by clicking "Time and Language", I find the "Set Time Automatically" option disabled and it is set to "ON".
I think it is synchronising automatically from the internet time server. I have my time zone also correctly to my region.
Either way, the other day I accidentally removed the date and time from the bottom right hand corner of the Windows 8 taskbar. I did this when i was trying to set the time from the Windows defaulted US Pacific Time to US Eastern Standard Time. How to get it back on the taskbar. Why my Java location on my computer is saying that it is "corrupted". I think it is related to Windows 8 upgrade.
View 1 Replies View RelatedSome of my movie files (file type doesn't matter) became corrupted; when I play them in VLC they cause errors, they were just fine before and nothing has changed. I noticed in Explorer that these files have no Date Modified field, it's simply blank; I've never seen anything like that.
I did a chkdsk on the drive and see no errors. What could it be ?
The way the date and sidebar pop up whenever I use my mouse in certain places is very annoying.
How do I disable both of them?
Also, how do I disable password protected log-on?
I have acer windows 8 laptop, I tried to install windows 8 Pro on OEM windows 8 partition after I formatted the partition and I ran windows 8 Pro installation media but at the partition selection and after I selected the ntfs partition I got error that "windows cannot be installed of GPT partition"...... is it possible that the OEM windows 8 was installed in a GPT partition?
1- How I can install windows 8 in GPT partition disk format?
2- How I can bypass this issue and install windows 8 Pro!
How to do this, either through a registry hack, or with some small program?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have saved numerous files to my hard drive which I am now going back through in trying to put the proper dates that they were made (most of them are audio files; but there are definitely files from every category) and for the most part, I am able to get all of the information that I needed just by right clicking on the file, scrolling down to "Properties" and then selecting the "Details" tab. Nevertheless, for some reason, a good 25-40% of them show a completely inaccurate date. So my question is: any failsafe/foolproof way of finding the correct date in question and on top of that, knowing whether or not that date is actually legitimate; whether that be with the use of some outside program, a command prompt, or some other shortcut?

View 9 Replies View RelatedBasically I installed windows 8 on an SSD and partitioned one of my 2tb drives in order to install / transfers programs and documents etc into windows 8 from the old windows 7 install. This worked perfectly, however, windows is not not letting my format the windows 7 side of the partition so i can expand and let windows 8 have the full 2tb of storage!
Windows 7 is installed on E:, I think perhaps the bootmgr may lay inside of E hence why I can't format it.
I have Windows 8 in my desktop PC and want to format my hard disk's partition where windows 8 is and install Windows 8.1.
For this, I have a bootable USB with Windows 8.1.
When I try to access BIOS to change the boot order of the PC, pressing DEL (as I always did without problem in previous versions of windows) sends me to a blank screen. The BIOS never load. I tried waiting more than 30 minutes. It wont load.
I also tried clicking RESTART while holding the SHIFT button to access the advance options, but it doesn't show the UEFI Firmware setting that it was supposed to.
Finally, I tried to enter through the PC SETTINGS in the charm bar, but it doesn't show the Update and recovery option I was looking for.
Will updating my BIOS changs the date of installation? If not, does the BIOS need to be replaced for this to occur? I am trying to apply to a job but their software is telling them my computer is too old. I've checked and the date they are showing is the BIOS date exactly.
