Windows 8 Won't Install On New Partition

Feb 14, 2013

I wanted to set up dual boot for Windows 8. I created a partition with enough space to load windows 8 from an ISO file.

However, after creating the bew volume, windows 8 displays a message that the partition is dynamically loaded. I have deleted the partition and re-created it with the same result.

I don't remember seeing an option for dynamic creation.

In a previous attempt< I have a partition(Q), which cannot be deleted, don't know if this is a problem.

Install Windows 8.1 Dual Boot On A Separate Partition?

Jul 5, 2013

I have made my Windows 8.1 DVD, but I haven't committed to installing it yet.

I'd like to just install it on a separate partition on my second hard drive.

Normally I wouldn't hesitate to just go ahead and install it, but I'm not sure if the new Uefi bios will just except it and automatically set up the dual boot menus etc, the way that it did in the past.

Are there extra steps that I need to take before going ahead with the install.

I definitely don't want to replace my current Windows 8 install until the final version comes online at that time I will probably do a complete new install of all my software.

Dual install without using VM?

Setup Installation :: No Recovery Partition After Clean Install Of Windows 8.1

Dec 2, 2013

I built up a new PC featuring a brand new SSD (i.e fully unallocated). Then, I made a clean install of Windows 8.1 pro (64bits) using an ISO DVD. Using Windows disk management tool after the install, I can see that only two partitions have been created: one System partition in NTFS (350MB) and the remaining of the SSD is the C: partition while I was expecting a third one : a recovery partition. Of course, I do not remember a prompt during the install to ask whether I want a recovery parttion or not.

Is it normal ? Is a recovery partition useful knowing I have the install DVD ? If the recovery partition has some advantages, is there a way to create it after the install is completed ?

Setup Installation :: Windows 8 Fresh Install On New SSD - Missing Partition

Mar 7, 2013

I swapped the HDD with a new blank SSD in T530 and booted it with the recovery USB of windows 8. System boots from the USB and gives refresh, reset, and other options. However, when I select reset ( to fresh isntall the OS on the SSD), it fails saying a required partition is missing. What! I'm using a blank SSD, shouldn't the installer present me with options to format and use the drive rather than erring out?

Is there any better way of installing the windows 8 os on a new blank SSD using the recovery USB?

I do have gParted live USB. If nothing works, I will partition the SSD using gParted and try the Windows 8 recovery USB again.

Maintenance :: Will Adding Partition Upset The Windows Partition Order

Aug 10, 2014

I would like to add a partition to a drive having the following partitions:

Number Partition Size 1 Windows RE 499 MB 2 EFI System 300 MB 3 MSR 128 MB 4 C: 216 GB 5 Windows RE 450 MB 6 Samsung Image 19 GB 7 Samsung Recovery 1 GB

This should be easy to do with MiniTool Partition Wizard. In essence, resize "C:", add the partition in the unallocated space, assign the drive letter "D" to the new partition, and format it to NTFS.

You will notice that the drive has two Windows RE partitions. This is because I updated to Windows 8.1 from Windows 8 through the Microsoft Store.

AOMEI Partition Assistant Standard To Add A NTFS Partition To USB Drive

Jul 17, 2014

i'm using Windows 8 Home 64 Bit.

I used AOMEI Partition Assistant Standard to add a NTFS Partition to my USB drive. I want to store large files over 4GB on this partition, while having the rest of my files on the primary partition which is FAT32. The problem is, when I plug my drive into the computer it only shows the primary partition.

Is there any way to get Windows to show both partitions when I plug the device in? I want to be able to store files on both partitions.

After doing some research, I found that one possible way would be to set the USB device as a "Fixed disk". I was unable to figure out how to do this.

The device is a 32GB Silicon Power Blaze Removable Disk with USB 3.0.

Setup Installation :: Migrating / Copying Boot Partition To Another HDD Partition

It would have been easier if i would have just cloned the complete drives but one of the partions on the 2nd drive has data which cannot be deleted .

So I have Drive

1 - Partitions C: ( boot partition ) & D:

Drive 2 - Partitions E: & F:

I want to remove Drive 1 from my PC so i want to copy C: to E: then remove drive 1 & boot from E:

I tried "Easeus todo backup" , did not work, it does not make the copy bootable , to make it bootale the whole drive has to be copied .

I tried making an image of C: using Windows 8 inbuilt backup feature then removed drive 1 , installed Windows 8 on E: then tried restoring the image of C: but i got some error.

Creating 2nd Primary Partition From Extended Partition?

Setup Installation :: Clean Install Of Windows 8 Without Install Disc?

Jan 20, 2013

I just got a new laptop, a Lenovo X230, for which I paid extra to have the OS on it as Windows 8 Pro.

So--now I have it, and Win 8 Pro 64 is installed and activated on it. I am a legal owner of Win 8 Pro.

However, I would like to do a clean install of Win 8 on the computer, to have it free of bloatware, etc. (In fact, I would like to set up a multi-boot with Win 7, and perhaps even triple boot with Xp as well. (I have installation media and my product keys for XP and 7 though, so those are not really a problem.)

The computer came with no discs at all. There is a procedure to make recovery disks. I may do that, but I think those will be to restore the computer to how it came from the factory, and therefore not usable for a clean install.

I don't see my product key for Win 8 anywhere. Not on the computer, not on any kind of card that came with it, etc.

I looked at the tutorial here for clean install of Windows 8, but it requires an install disc and product key. I have neither, although I am a legal owner of Windows 8.

Is there a way I can create (from my installed Windows 8) a win 8 install disk, that can be used for a clean install? Or a link to download one? Is there a way I can get my product key?

Windows 8 Partition Display

Apr 18, 2013

I am coming off Linux op system and am a bit lost. My latest endeavor is understanding the Windows 8 partitions.

I have a Dell Inspiron 5721, 8 GB memory, 1 TB hard disk, with Windows 8 O.S.

Looking at the partition display, I see the disk is divided into five partitions. The partitions are named:

"500 MB, Healthy ( EFI System Partition)",
"40 MB, Healthy (OEM Partition)",
"500 MB Healthy, (Recovery Partition)",
"OS (C:, 917.77 GB NTFS, Healthy (Boot, Page File, Crash Dump, Primary Partition)",
"12.60 GB, Healthy (Recovery Partition)".

All of these partition, except for the NTFS partition, are listed as 100% Free. The NTFS partition is listed as 88% Free.

Are these partition available for use, or are they being used for something(?).

I am working on the boot situation, trying to find out how to input from the cd/dvd writer, but have not over come the "Secure Boot" thing yet. That will be next on my agenda.

I am attaching a copy of the data partition scheme ....

Windows 8 - How To Partition Hard Drive

Dec 29, 2013

I am new to Windows 8, and first time with a laptop. I have 1tb hard drive (minus a few gb) in c drive. d drive is being used as recovery

This is how it was setup. What I would like to do is to partition the amount of space i have from c drive into another drive.

Can manage to partition some hard drive space over to another driver letter, if i do a fresh install of windows, will this new drive be formatted too?

(Just asking this because when I owned a desktop computer, I had two drives. A c-drive and a d-drive. When I re-installed windows 7 on the desktop, all my files were still available on the d-drive, hence asking the above last question).

Windows 8 - Accessing Recovery Partition?

Jun 5, 2014

I have an Asus ux32a zenbook and basically, I was wanting to reinstall my windows 8 back to the factory settings. My recovery image I saved is deleted and I may have started formatting my hard drive but am not sure. I try the f9 at startup to access the asus recovery but nothing happens.

I have a copy of Windows 7 I was going to just install over it but when I go to the advanced set up where it asks where I want to install windows I get a long list of disk partitions that have OS, Data, Restore ect. already on it looks like , which makes me think I can still access windows 8 somewhere on my computer.

The problem is, when I boot my computer without an installation usb, it directly takes me to the bios and nothing else. My question is, is it possible to see if I can access my recovery partition, if there is one, just through bios, since that is my only option when I turn the computer on?

Windows 8.1 Changes A Certain Partition Letter On Reboot?

Aug 24, 2014

He has a DELL XPS machine, an i7 newer model running 8.1, he's got a main internal HD as C: and a permanently added USB drive with 3 partitions ad D: E: and F: but on reboot the F: partition suddenly goes up a letter to G:, the other two stay the same.

Apparently its been fine until recently when this started happening, I made sure the used Disk Management to change the letter back but on reboot its back to G:

He has no other devices attached and any other USB drives either have a selected letter near the end of the alphabet or are not assigned a set letter but none are attached when the machine boots. It sounds like the F: is being reserved by something, possibly registry wise but I don't have the machine in front of me to check and I would rather its me using regedit and he's got slippery fingers due to arthritis and is prone to over clicking and wrong key presses.

where to check or what to check, I've done as much as I can via Skype but at a loss as to why its only doing it to one partition and always the same one, also did a dischk and the partiton is ok.
