I have created new partition ''New Volume :" to install windows server 2008 on it ,but when I try to boot from the CD to install it this message appear
"Windows cannot be installed to this Hard disk space . The partition contain one or more volumes that are not supported for installation" ...

I have a 64 bit processor running 32 bit Windows 8. If I were to install the 64 bit Windows 8, could I restore the 32 bit System Image and preserve my files and settings?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a Dell XPS 420 and I've just bought an SSD for it. Every time I boot the machine I see "Operating system wasn't found" now, despite having booted into Windows successfully just before.
The only change I made was connecting a standard SATA 2TB drive - which it boots into fine - but now when I have removed the 2TB drive I cannot boot onto the SSD.
I have a multiple operating system and used to get the blue graphical boot menu with a rectangle with the name of each operating system in it. After a few boots it went back to the text menu, and only returned a couple of times. Is there a way to get the graphical boot menu back permanently? It looks a lot nicer. I have XP, Vista, 7, 8, 8.1 .....
View 6 Replies View RelatedI reinstalled windows 8.1 on my Samsung NP530U3C-A10EE. And now the problem this that I can't boot it without usb stick that contains windows installation files. I can boot up windows and remove the usb stick evertything is working perfectly, but if I try to boot up win without usb, it gives error "Operating system not found. Press CTRL+ALT+DEL to restart". VOLUME C: is one where windows are installed (SSD), System Reserved is the system partition that windows create automaticaly (SSD), volumes D: and F: are my hdd volumes D: is empty & F: is stored with my personal files (photos, music etc.)
View 6 Replies View RelatedAcer Aspire V5 laptop that was running an OEM Windows 8 to upgrade to 8.1.
After selecting the Upgrade to Windows 8.1 via the store, the system went through it's install procedure, however after it does an auto reboot, it gives you a blank screen with the message No Operating System found, in the upper left corner.
But, you can turn the machine off and back on, and it will boot just fine. However if you select restart it does the same thing "no operating system found", on restart and again you must power down and power back on.
I have searched for fixes, but all seem to point to some sort of re-install process. I am not to crazy about the idea of re-installing to factory settings or doing a repair back to Windows 8 and attempting to upgrade again, are their any known shorter fixes for this?
And if I do go back to Windows 8, and try to upgrade again, what is to say it won't happen again?
My PC is a dual boot system which had Win XP on disk1 and Win 7 on disk2.
When I installed Windows 8 several months ago, I chose to install it on disk1 and completely remove Win XP.
Everything works fine but my log-in screen now contains 4 start-up tabs instead of just 2 (see below):
Windows 8
Windows XP
Windows 7 (volume 1)
Windows 7
The only tabs which are valid are Windows 8 and Windows 7 (volume 1), the other 2 are non functional. How can I edit this screen and remove these tabs?
I got this msg tryng to refresh my pc . because my vaio gate app wasnt working right . so after the restar i just got the blue screen with this error the boot configutating data file dosent have valid infomation of an operating system.

Because it does not contain enough free space. Clearly I have enough free space... [URL] ....
What should I do? I want to do a dual boot, so I can keep Windows 7 in case I don't like 8.1...
I formatted and deleted that partition and I tried again with 201gb, and no luck. [URL] ....
I'm trying to recreate win 8.1 pro system reserved partition on my ssd. Initially I installed windows on my ssd (c: ) and windows created the sysres partition on my unformatted hd (without telling me anything). After some trouble I managed to be able to boot from ssd directly without going through the sysres partition on the hd. Now if possible I'd like to recreate the sysres on the ssd (by disconnecting my hd so that windows has no other options than creating this on the ssd). If a try a system refresh it tells me it would wipe away all my user installed apps.

I just purchase a legitimate version of Windows 8.1 Pro (student) edition from the Microsoft store. I downloaded the installer and created both an ISO file and media drive on a USB stick.
My question is, can I somehow install only Media Center onto my 8.1 laptop without installing the entire 8.1 Pro operating system?
Ok so i am trying to install windows 8 X64 onto a different hard drive as windows 7 so i can switch between the two at startup.Ok so my problems started yesterday when trying to install windows 8 onto the Hard Drive i was getting"Windows cannot be installed to this disk. The selected disk has an MBR partition table. On EFI systems, Windows can only be installed to GPT disks."To fix this i converted the disk to a GPT disk in Disk ManagerNow im getting the Error "Setup was unable to create a new system partition or locate an existing system partition. View 9 Replies View RelatedHere is the deal I have 2 hdds (160 gb and 1 tb) late last night used the 1 tb as a flash drive and re installed my OS on the 160 gb drive. The "system" files are on the 1 tb drive and all other files ( boot crash dump etc ) are on the other one.
PROBLEM: while doing a cold start the system fails to spin up th bigger drive in time for the software to detect the system file on the bigger drive and it brings up the boot manager saying files are not present to load, a restart fixes the problem as the bigger drive would be up to speed by then, any work around to delay the boot till both drives are up to speed .........???.
Further i think that moving the "system partition " to the other disk will eliminate this issue ...... how do i go about doing that ... See the image below
QUESTION :if i remove the 1 tb disk physically and reinstall OS and connect it back will everything be as good as new or will it pose problems as then there would be two "system " partitions .....

I want to remove the hard drive with Windows 7 Pro and insert a new 1TB Sata drive for a fresh install of windows 8. I have an almost new 1TB Sata WD hard drive formatted GPT/NTFS.I have completely wiped the hard drive. I will have to have the EFI partition on the windows hard drive.
The real question is will the windows 8 OEM software create the correct partitions when the system is installed.I know I need the EFI partition and the operating system partition at a minimum.
I want install another copy of windows 8 on another partition. This is useful in installing different group of programs so I boot the suitable one related to specific problems. Moreover you can delete a problem file from the other partition.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 8 (and then 8.1) on a laptop with a 240 GB SSD. When I run setup, it loads, but then says Windows can't be installed because there isn't enough free space on the system reserved partition. My reserved partition is only 32 MB (I believe it was shrunk from 100 MB when I swapped the SSD in).
Is there any way I can resize the reserved partition and install Windows 8, or will I need to totally reformat the drive and repartition? Don't want to reinstall all my software .....
I have a custom PC I built and I was running 8.1 on it. I have to drives a 120gb ssd that had windows on it and I have a 1 TB that had the 350mb system reserved partition and 2 other partitions I had for data and a boatload of free space. I wanted to try and install Linux Ubuntu on the 1tb hard drive. I did a custom install on it because I didn't want it to delete my existing partitions so in the install I made 2 partitions for Ubuntu, after I installed it my 2 data partitions are gone and I don't know what happened with the 350mb system reserved partition.
On that disk now is the 2 Linux partitions and a 150mb partition that I can't tell what it is. But now I can't boot into windows, even when I go from bios. My question is in that system reserved partition is that where the bootmgr is? Because I did nothing with the ssd where windows is and I get a no operating system error when I try to boot off it. How I can fix that disk if the system reserved partition isn't on it.
I was having a problem since my computer shows "windows cannot delete the active system partition on this disk". How to delete the partition on which i have windows 7 installed.

I built up a new PC featuring a brand new SSD (i.e fully unallocated). Then, I made a clean install of Windows 8.1 pro (64bits) using an ISO DVD. Using Windows disk management tool after the install, I can see that only two partitions have been created: one System partition in NTFS (350MB) and the remaining of the SSD is the C: partition while I was expecting a third one : a recovery partition. Of course, I do not remember a prompt during the install to ask whether I want a recovery parttion or not.
Is it normal ? Is a recovery partition useful knowing I have the install DVD ? If the recovery partition has some advantages, is there a way to create it after the install is completed ?
How to make a clean install on my Samsung Series 5 550P5C, but I hear from here to there that when I do it I will delete my Recovery Partition (which I would like to have on the disc in some radical case). However I saw a thread when someone performed a clean install and didn't lost the recovery partition. Additionally I think it should not be able to remove it installing Windows on C partition, as this is another partition on the disc - than Recovery part.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI swapped the HDD with a new blank SSD in T530 and booted it with the recovery USB of windows 8. System boots from the USB and gives refresh, reset, and other options. However, when I select reset ( to fresh isntall the OS on the SSD), it fails saying a required partition is missing. What! I'm using a blank SSD, shouldn't the installer present me with options to format and use the drive rather than erring out?
Is there any better way of installing the windows 8 os on a new blank SSD using the recovery USB?
I do have gParted live USB. If nothing works, I will partition the SSD using gParted and try the Windows 8 recovery USB again.
While I was messing around with my laptop, I decided to add on a fourth operating system, Arch Linux. I suppose I was pushing my luck a bit . Anyways, during the installation, I accidentally deleted the EFI system partition from my laptop, which contained the Windows Boot Manager and necessary files to boot. Great. I only made things worse by trying to troubleshoot, and broke grub as well.
I have a Windows 8 repair disk I made using the Windows 8 built in utility, but it does not boot: the computer turns on, and just hangs at the Toshiba splash screen.
I also can obviously not access the Toshiba recovery partitions, as they are booted into just like Windows itself.
I found a bootx64.efi file on one of my system's recovery partitions (Toshiba seems to have some really complex system going on) and placed it in EFIootootx64.efi. According to this site, FGA: The EFI boot process., I need to place the bkpbootmgfw.efi (on my system, that was what it was called, but I suspect boot-repair (ubuntu tool) messed something up when I was first setting up grub and the ESP and the bkp stands for backup) back onto the EFI System Partition.
Where to look for in the various Windows Imaging Format .wim and .swm files I have laying around my recovery partition(s) in order to extract the necessary EFI files. Any Windows Repair iso that works.
Windows 8 creates its own hidden recovery partition during the install. In my case, it's 450MB.
I know not to touch this partition, and I'd like to know what's in that partition and how it's used.

So I've ordered a whole new system and am looking to only take the SSD from the old computer, but I want to format it so I can start anew, I've got windows 8 and I'm not sure how I go about activating it on the new system and all that.

I am currently running Windows 8.1 and I want to do a clean install back to Windows 8. I have the original 64-bit Windows 8 Pro DVD. I put this DVD into my DVD drive and rebooted. I then went into the BIOS and made sure the first boot device was set to DVD/CDROM.
When I restart my computer it never gives me the option of booting to the DVD it just takes me back to the Operating System (my login screen).
My question is, how do I get my system to bootup from the Windows 8 Pro DVD so that I can do a fresh install?
