Im new to the whole Windows 8 thing but am unable to load a webpage while connected to my home wireless.
Im using a hp envy dv7 laptop which was bought new. The wireless shows connected however webpages will not load.
I have plugged in a Ethernet cable and the everything works fine.
This new computer I've recently gotten comes with Windows 8; something I've never used before. I've noticed that, for some reason, the PC saves the last page (or pages) I was in, even after clicking out of them. Even going so far as resetting the computer or shutting it off completely, the last pages I were in start up upon starting up a browser. This has gotten incredibly annoying.
For example, if I were in Hotmail last before closing the browser, the next time I open the browser, it will load up the exact same Hotmail page I was on even though I have the homepage set to a different site. I do not want this to happen. Is there a way to shut this off so pages I X out of remain X-ed out of even after restarting the browser? Even if I don't close a page, if I reset or shut off the computer, I don't want to start at the same page I was on before. I want to start at my homepage. How can I fix this?

I have a fairly new HP Pavilion Ultrabook 14-b011tx with windows 8. In the last few days I have started to have a problem if I tried to right-click on a picture in IE and use "save as" I get error 8007ffff. If I try to save the whole page I get an error that says unable to save webpage with no further explanation.
I have also noticed the file open/save dialogue will not appear in some programs - they just hang.

my computer is Dell inspiron 15 win 8 x64 I have problem with my home wifi network; I cant connect ''the settings saved on this computer for the network do not match the requirements of the network'' but when I try other wireless its work
View 2 Replies View RelatedBasically, whats happening is, it says connected to the internet, however, it won't load any site. We've attempted this on Internet Explorer, Firefox, and Google Chrome. The weird thing is, we have found that she can connect to sites by using the site's IP, but not with the actual address. Also, Skype is working perfectly fine with the connection. Its just, web addresses that cause a problem.
Running on Windows 8 and her computer model is a Satellite c55-A and the processor is intel(r) core(TM) i3-3120m cpu @ 2.50ghz 2.50 ghz. The manufacturer is Toshiba.
Also, this was a problem encountered on any router connected to. However, if we can not get this solved, will resort to attempting to restore to factory settings.
So after I upgraded to 8.1 I have been having internet connectivity issues, it says Im conected fine but cant load any web pages. So I ran trouble shoot and this is is what I got back. (See below). Sometimes troubleshoot will fix it other times not, this time it did.

I installed Windows 8.1 build 9471 into my desktop. I use a TP Link TL-WN781ND wireless adapter to access my home network and the internet. I tried copying the drivers from Windows/System32/Drivres and installing them manually, I also downloaded the exe from the site but they still wouldnt connect. It would just say no connections found.

My phone and tablet stay connected to the wifi while my laptop can't. I tried all the remedies for it and yet it has issues. Is it because I had installed spotflux and tunnel bear on my laptop?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have been unable to connect two windows 8 laptops (dell and asus) to my home network (and internet). At the same time I have connected 2 xp laptops and 3 kindles with no problems. My security consists of using mac addresses only and all other security is turned off.
The offending laptops will also only show the 5gz and not the 2.4gz in available networks (one laptop is brand new and the other is about 1.5 years old). I have also disabled all security on one of the laptops to see if that was the problem (it was not). When trying to connect I have two basic reactions. The first is that its taking too long (cannot connect) and the other is that there is limited connectivity. In addition to that I am sometimes told that the ip address is not right (malformed, I think).
I got the mac addresses, of the offending laptops, by the standard cmd/ipconfig /all path and choose the wireless wi ip but have also tried the other wireless as well with no better results (just making sure)
I also have an edimax extender plugged in and it works. The laptops also show fewer network connections than my asus 1000ha w/d-link dongle. My own laptop, incidentally, is clicked into the 5gz network connection directly from the router (edimax kinda redundant <g>)
I posted this in windows 8 topics as I think this is probably a windows 8 problem given the ability to connect other machines with no problem.
The router is a netgear wndr3400 and is working just fine for all but the windows 8 machine.
I have a Dell Latitude E6500. Before tonight, I was running Windows 7. I decided to update to Windows 8 and now I am unable to get any web pages to load. My wireless is connected but no pages will load when I open IE.
I can't imagine I am the only one who has run in to this.
Maybe it's a device driver; but I can't get to the Dell site to do any diagnostics.
My Toshiba Satellite Laptop has Windows 8. For some reason windows 8 wont load. It gets to the screen where you select which username you want. But from there its non responsive, I cant get into Windows, I cant restart to load it up in safe mode.
I got a Windows 8 disk which I had to change the bios to load it up. The cd loads but it says the automatic repair wont repair the laptop. I try to refresh windows 8 but I get a message saying the drive where windows is installed is locked. unlock the drive and try again. It also wont let me use system restore.
I try to use the reset pc option but I get a message saying unable to reset your pc, a required drive partition is missing.
At the start it gives me the option to install windows 8, I don't know whether to just do that? Is it ok to do with windows 8 already installed?
I'm having trouble getting windows 8 to detect my RTL8188CU after installing the Windows 7 x64 drivers from realtek on Windows consumer preview. I had the exact same issue in developer preview and I was unable to solve it. I'm not sure wether doing a fresh install would solve issues rather than an upgrade to keep personal files.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've got a new desktop which is connected to my house wifi using an USB adaptor. The signal quality is constantly at 5 bars but I find myself frequently having to refresh multiple times whenever I load a new page on the browser either because it's not loading or pictures or not showing. Pages become near impossible to load when i am downloading stuff(torrents, upgrades, games etc). Also noticed other computers in the house are also affecting mine when they are in the process of downloading files. Torrents, updates all make it impossible for me to browse the net. Pages literally refuse to be loaded at all whenever something is downloading. I also have to infrequently refresh pages even when nothing is downloading because it's not loading or pictures are not showing. None of the other computers are affected however.
Any program that requires an internet access is also struggling to get connected. I had to use direct links to install certain programs such as Adobe reader/flash. It's often impossible to check for updates in programs or even sign on to clients like Steam/Origin which requires a connection. I had to try for ages before it signed in online but it's still having trouble loading images and such.
What is strange however is that I'm having no issues holding a connection when downloading bigger files such as direct downloads, windows update, steam game downloads and torrents. No drop outs that I've noticed. But it is faily slow averaging 400kb/s.
Everything else in my house including my laptop, another desktop, ipad and phone works fine. No issue browsing the net while downloading.
Wireless is connected through an USB adaptor pluged in to the back of my desktop. I've tried two adaptors (ASUS USB-N13 and Linksys AE1200) and both of them runs into the same problems. Running windows 8.1 and using ESET NOD32 as an antivirus with the windows firewall turned on. Desktop specs are as follows:
CPU: i5 4670K

RAM: G.Skill Ares F3-1866C9D-8GAB 8GB (2x4GB)

This is extremely frustrating and has never happened with any other computers I've used before.
Just setup a N router, works OK with Laptop with Win 8, but unable to connect with Win 8 Desktop. Have entered router keys OK but nothing pops up to click to connect. Been into (Settings) then (Change PC Settings), but no Wireless tab in setting. Type in wireless, PC checks (No wireless). I have Win 8 Disk, can I load wireless driver from Disk if yes how.

I have a Dell 15R Inspiron laptop running Windows 8; It has a Dell 1705 Wireless card. Suddenly after trying to check for Windows Updates my computer said it is unable to check due to an error. Tried to correct error without success. Then the computer began to go to airplane mode; I kept turning on wireless connection. Finally it went into airplane mode and prevented me from turning the wireless connection back on.
I checked and found a message the ethernet cables were unplugged. I checked my network connection and it is fine. My tablet and printer are connected wirelessly and work ok. I reset the computer to factory default settings. I tried many Microsoft's solutions from their forum and nothing works. The computer is 1 year old and I spend a lot of time fixing problems that arise through no fault of mine. I am totally dissatisfied with Windows 8 and 8.1.
I have 2 machines connected via my router/hub (wired). One is running Windows 8.1 and the other Windows 7. Previously I had them sharing perfectly until I did a reinstall of Windows 8 (upgraded to Windows 8.1). I get this message on both machines whilst trying to access shared drives (permissions enabled to read, write, modify for all users):
I have a local account on the windows 8.1 as per previous installation. I have checked all the usual sharing settings and they are the same as in the previous working installation on both machines. I have left the homegroup and created a new one on the windows 8 machine and rejoined on the windows 7 machine all to no avail.
I was looking at all my installed programs on my computer. I noticed that Java is not on the list, so that means it's not installed yet.
So I went to Java.com to download it. However, when I clicked "Agree and Start Free Download", Google Chrome (the web browser I was using) shows a fail page. Then I tried all the other web browsers installed on my computer, i.e. Internet Explorer, Safari, Firefox and Opera. Unfortunately, they all showed fail pages as well.
Internet Explorer says "This page can't be displayed", Safari says "Safari can't open the page" with an error code of kCFErrorDomainWinSock:10054, Firefox says "The connection was reset", Opera says "This webpage is not available", and Google Chrome says the same thing as Opera ("This webpage is not available") with a different layout of text.
When I'm on the main/first page and put my cursor on a link (cursor won't turn into hand) then when I click it just started saying Opp's then top left circle spins then goes to a page to download something I don't want or bogus.
Another big problem, certain words will be highlighted and a window pop's up (different windows) and want allow me to go to the webpage I want.
This has been happening sense I purchased my new computer wit Win.8
Example: the words on the page highlighted is where I want to go, but a small window pops up and says Best cities to work or Free Local Job Search. Its has a icon to close the windows but when I do it will go to another download type page.
Is there a setting in IE or Firefox to turn that problem OFF ? See on this page there IS NOT a word that is highlighted and what I click I go to.
My daughter plays on Friv, a website with hundreds of games, most of them are FLASH based.
It frequently creates BSOD on my Win 8.1 desktop computer
I'm tried to use Google Chrome and the result is the same.
When I look with BlueScreenViewer, I can see it is always the exact same error.
It happened in in Win 8, Win 8.1 Beta, and now Win 8.1
Each time the OS was fully installed from scratch.
I have the latest BIOS from ASUS as well as all latest drivers I could find.
I am using windows 8 in virtual box and having problem in IE.
View 2 Replies View RelatedIE11 seems to have a strange "Feature". When you close a Web site with an active download the whole thing closes and the download disappears -- IE 11 shows no windows open.
However press CTRL+J and you'll see the download lists again. If there's no activity press PAUSE and then press RESUME and then it should continue from where it stopped.
To some this might seem obvious but I've seen people re-start a 2hr download because they thought they had lost their currently active download when they accidentally closed the web site.
I just bought a brand new computer and i am having trouble getting it to STAY connected to the wifi. It has windows 8 which i am not to keen on, and also know veery little about. It connects fine but after anywhere from 5-30 minutes it will go to limited connectivity. After this i disconnect from the wifi network and reconnect and the process starts all over again. I have tried many things in the cmd prompt as those have solved others with this or similar problems but to no avail. Also i changed the power settings not not allow the adapter to turn off. i am starting online college in 5 days and i need a reliable internet connection.

Windows 8 appears to work fine.HOWEVER, when both drives r connected to the system at the same time and I try to boot Windows 8 the W7 drive gets corrupted such that the next time W7 is booted it must run CHKDSK.I did this on both a laptop and a desktop and get the same results.

View 5 Replies View RelatedWhen I have a powered usb hub connected, my windows 8 will not start. The same usb hub connected to xp or to windows 7 does not cause problems. But it does in windows 8. So I need to disconnect that hub and start windows 8 without it and connect it after windows 8 has booted. Said hub has two drives attached: 1 32GB and a 1 TB. How come Windows 8 cannot handle it?

So far I have noticed that if you leave the computer off for a while or change the hard drive to a different sata port it will work fine for a while then do the same thing.
Also I have done a full clean install with windows 8 and the same issue has occured a couple of days later.
I have a feeling its the hard drive going bad but how can i be sure? Some hard drive utilities have reported "end to end error - fail" but others have said there is no issues.
I have a problem with update. Last night I was connected thrugh VPN to internet and in this mood windows update get some update. now I can't download updates without VPN. I must conneced to vpn then trying to update otherwise I get error 80072EFD.
