I installed Windows 8 on a separate drive from my W7. W7 works fine. Windows 8 appears to work fine.HOWEVER, when both drives r connected to the system at the same time and I try to boot Windows 8 the W7 drive gets corrupted such that the next time W7 is booted it must run CHKDSK.I did this on both a laptop and a desktop and get the same results.

View 9 Replies View RelatedThe issue is finding the file location for my flash drive. My computer only has 3 external USB ports. I have tried all of them, when the flash drive is plugged in somewhere on my computer it should indicate another drive location. I can't find anything....not sure where to look or if I'm looking in the right place. All that shows is c: drive & E: drive. The E: drive is exclusive for the OS system restore (can't be used; not accessible for anything else). The only other is the DVD drive. Nowhere can I find evidence of the flash drive plugged into the USB.
I have all the essential drivers & everything is up to date [I have a task scheduler & Driver updater software installed. All drivers are up to date. This is a new computer, only 2 months old].
I have gone into device manager & checked all the USB & composite serial bus controllers to make sure they are powered on (my computer has an energy saving management thing & it will possibly deactivate the hubs when not in use). According to the power management settings they are not set to "sleep" but all ports are active. I can't figure out why I can't find my drive, nothing is appearing when I have the flash drive plugged in.
I connected a hard drive to my PC. I was able to read/write to it just fine. In fact, I've used it various times in the past. I just tried connecting it again now, and the drive is not showing up on Windows 8.1 at all. It's not being detected.
I connected the drive to a Mac to see if it was the drive, but it wasn't: the Mac was able to read it just fine.
I've had a similar situation in the past with this machine, where my iPhone was, seemingly out of nowhere, no longer recognized by the system. Plugging it in would register on the phone, but the PC wouldn't acknowledge its existence.
I'm completely at a loss as to why this can be. Other drives connect to the PC just fine (in fact, I have another one connected now, as I write this, backing up some data).
Been having trouble this morning with my network drive in my Home Server. It normally connects fine at startup and it all of a sudden wont work.
I have isolated it to my Desktop as i can connect off of my Laptop fine.
The name of my server is Homeserver(192.168.1.77) and I have shared a folder inside the drive rather than the drive its self. This image shows how I'm trying to connect to the folder. And this is the error I'm getting
I have tried:
Resetting ip / dns flushing etc.
sfc /scannow (Says everything is fine.)
Windows 8.1: files in folders on network drive not visible
W2K3 Server can access W8 W8 computer cant see W2K server
Also tried disabling norton on my desktop but still wont work
I just bought a brand new computer and i am having trouble getting it to STAY connected to the wifi. It has windows 8 which i am not to keen on, and also know veery little about. It connects fine but after anywhere from 5-30 minutes it will go to limited connectivity. After this i disconnect from the wifi network and reconnect and the process starts all over again. I have tried many things in the cmd prompt as those have solved others with this or similar problems but to no avail. Also i changed the power settings not not allow the adapter to turn off. i am starting online college in 5 days and i need a reliable internet connection.

So I need to disconnect that hub and start windows 8 without it and connect it after windows 8 has booted. Said hub has two drives attached: 1 32GB and a 1 TB. How come Windows 8 cannot handle it?

So far I have noticed that if you leave the computer off for a while or change the hard drive to a different sata port it will work fine for a while then do the same thing.
Also I have done a full clean install with windows 8 and the same issue has occured a couple of days later.
I have a feeling its the hard drive going bad but how can i be sure? Some hard drive utilities have reported "end to end error - fail" but others have said there is no issues.

I am running Windows 8 on an Asus laptop. Two days ago it was doing updates and restarting. It did this 3 times, and on the third restart I received the blue error screen. It stated
"Recovery. Your pc needs to be repaired. A required device isn't connected or can't be accessed. Error code: 0xc0000225

It gives me three options at the bottom [press enter to try again, press f8 for startup settings, press esc for uefi firmware settings]. If I press enter I get the same screen just with a bit more text. f8 does nothing. Uefi takes me to the boot menu. I have been trying to boot from a dvd r with a flash operating system in order to recover my data before it is reformatted. However, it does not seem to recognize the disc. When I select to boot from dvd rom, it tries, then on the black screen appears text saying restart and select boot device or install boot media and press a key. I tried taking disc out and putting bavk in, then pressing a key, nothing, same message.
Recently windows store on my windows 8.0 stopped working, when i try to browse it or any other metro app they doesn't work and the message on screen is:PC isn't connected to the internet..
I used the apps.diagcab solution but no way to go, it runs if i run Fiddler2. How to set a default status without loosing anything?
Why Windows 8.1 is giving me so many issues. My laptop is unable to stay connected to the wifi for long and sometimes I am unable to connect. Also when doing an ipconfig /all it says that the DNS Server is 127.0.0.1 and there are no DNS Servers on the device. What could have happened is that along time ago there was a DC named exactly like my new device.

I have a Blackberry Z10 and Blackberry Link installed on my laptop. I hear a beep, as in something was connected to the PC, then it seems to charge for a couple of seconds (lights flash on the controller) and then it stops. Tonight when I plugged my LG G-Pad into my laptop it made the usual audible tone but is now no longer visible. Worked fine about 2 days ago, now nothing.. Interestingly enough it works fine on my desktop (Win 7) and my office computer (also Win 7), but all the sudden it doesn't appear on my laptop where I need it most. I considered doing a restore, but it appears I'll have to re-install 8.1 again, and I'm not too keen on that as it was a nightmare in itself

View 5 Replies View RelatedAs the title says, I've tried connecting my TV to my computer with an HDMI cable, and the video part works, but no sound plays. When I checked the list of playback devices, the TV appeared (as shown below), but it apparently cannot play sound.
I don't think I know anything beyond what I've posted,
Also, as a side note - I am completely unable to interact with any of these objects - I cannot set something as a default device; there is no response when I do it, and disabling the audio device only works until current sources of sound (like videos) are restarted.
Using inspiron 5200 with windows 8, internet is showing that it is connected on the taskbar, is sending/receiving information. Browser is not working. Was working fine until I connected directly to the modem instead of wireless, now cannot access internet using any browser. When I open windows mobility center the icon for wireless network is missing.
